The article Matthew Belanger has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article, which appeared to be about a real person, individual animal, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the notability of the subject may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Thanks. I understand. In the process of arguing this speedy deletion, I've learned a bit more about how Wikipedia works, and the policies. I still believe I provided the bare bones for a stub - 1 reference to an article at an independent newspaper (600 words), and then one link to a national newspaper proving the local newspaper was ligit. There are more references available, I just didn't have them at my finger tips prior to pushing the post button. So, sure, please "restore it to my user space". I don't know how that works, but, I'm sure I'll figure it out.

The goofy thing is, there are probably 4 or 5 articles I could create about Canadian Politicians, all of them would be "more notable" than Matthew Belanger. I don't know why I started with the least notable. Maybe I should start with some of the more notable, and see how those go. Then, I'll come back to Matthew, with more references.

I think I was most annoyed, that the content I typed was blown away so fast, it would have been humanily impossible to even read the referenced articles prior to it being deleted. It was like, within minutes, or seconds even. I had to figure out the right syntax, all for the first time. The problem with creating articles in main space is that you need to establish notability from the get-go, or it will likely be deleted quickly. Either the prose should make a credible claim of notability (which would avoid speedy deletion even without sources), or you need sources that show significant coverage of the subject (which would avoid the more lengthy WP:AfD process. An article won't meet WP:POLITICIAN criteria for inclusion if it says only that someone is a politician who is running a campaign and references a list of candidates.

I recommend to all new Wikipedia users to create articles in their own userspace first. For example, you could create User:Freeslave84/Matthew Belanger. Just add the {{userspace draft}} template to the top. It won't be deleted then, and when it's reasonably fleshed out, move it to main space. ~Amatulić (talk) 20:19, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
