Hi Freddy, sorry I'm a bit late in replying! The Duden entry I quoted is from "das große Wörterbuch", in digital format. As you can see it labels this meaning of Pfannkuchen specifically as "besonders norddeutsch und ostmitteldeutsch" - Dresden being in Ostmitteldeutschland, this is what people understand here when they read "Pfannkuchen". If you ask for Pfannkuchen at the baker's you are given doughnuts; if you want pancakes you have to ask for Eierkuchen. In Dresden people don't usually say "Berliner" and Krapfen are unfilled, smaller doughnuts (see also the section on usage at de:Berliner Pfannkuchen). As the article is about a Dresden speciality it seems right to me to use the local word. Maybe that's what the native German speaker who used the word Pfannkuchen was thinking. Thank you for contributing this stub! It is now listed at Portal:Germany/New article announcements, where you can list any Germany-related article you create. Happy editing, Kusma (討論) 15:28, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for trying to clarify that, it really does make it easier. (Sorry for the late reply - I've been in exam mode. :( ) Malkinann (talk) 03:30, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
