Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Non-free rationale for File:Jt main photo for wikipedia.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Jt main photo for wikipedia.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Train2104 (talk • contribs • count) 00:26, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I have produced the photo and placed it on the original website. I have placed the image in the public domain. I thought I changed the appropriate tags on the image to specify this status. I checked the User:Chzz/help/mybiolerplate and it presents an empty edit screen, which makes no sense. So... still unclear as to what to do. Thanks, Fred

It was just a typo - the page is User:Chzz/help/myboilerplate. -- John of Reading (talk) 16:57, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

John Tanton

[edit]

A few years ago I created the John Tanton page. It was seriously and repeatedly vandalized and remains in that condition. I understand that one of the main vandals has been barred from wikipedia. At this point I would like to repair the article. I think the best way to do this might be to start from scratch. What is the best way to handle this situation and also to prevent further vandalism? Fred Elbel (talk) 21:01, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • By all means, feel free to work on the article. The best place to start would be to work on addressing neutrality and improving references. Since the article has been worked on by several members of the community going back to 2005, it would be inappropriate to "start from scratch". Keep in mind that while User:Will Beback was eventually banned, none of his edits to this article were or are categorized as vandalism. Content or edit disputes and disagreements, while they may be frustrating, all parties were attempting to improve the article, while coming at it from different angles. The changes that Will made to this article served to bring it into compliance with the Manual of Style for biographies. If you have questions or need help, please feel free to contact me. {{Help me}} This image has been placed in the free public domain. This is a request for undeletion. How might one make this request? Fred Elbel (talk) 01:51, 9 December 2011 (UTC) Fred Elbel[reply]

Hi. I moved this question from Talk:John_Tanton - for {{helpme}} questions, it's best on your own user-talk page.

If that picture is on other websites, we need explicit permission from the copyright-holder; that can be done in a few ways; the copyright-holder could give permission on a website, or an email such as User:chzz/help/mybiolerplate could be sent. See also WP:DCM. If you're not sure, please put another {{helpme}} and your question. right here. Best,  Chzz  ►  04:59, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I reviewed the boilerplate template. It requires the URL of the image at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Tanton . However, since the image has been deleted, I do not know what the image URL is. What to do next?

I think the "URL" in the boilerplate text is meant to be a URL outside Wikipedia where the image can be seen. Is this for the deleted image File:Jt main photo for wikipedia.jpg? If you mention that in your email as "Uploaded as File:Jt main photo for wikipedia.jpg" then the image can be un-deleted when the permission has been checked. -- John of Reading (talk) 15:28, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The boilerplate was modified and submitted via email on 2011dec11. Yet the image is still not visible. Why not? Is there yet another step?

I had to dig around a bit, but here is a thread from last year referring to a two week backlog in processing these emails. I have no idea of the current backlog. -- John of Reading (talk) 21:31, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. With WillBeback permanently banned from Wikipedia we should take a look at the article and see what needs to be done. – Lionel (talk) 00:44, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Weeden foundation requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Ridernyc (talk) 15:43, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

{{Help me}} The Weeden Foundation page was speedily deleted. I wish to contest this speedy deletion for the following reasons: 1) Articles for other foundations - notably the Ford Foundation - are present on Wikipedia. The Weeden Foundation article is modeled after the Ford Foundation article and similarly contains current grants and programs. 2) The Weeden Foundation is known internationally for grant-making. 3) Weeden Foundation and its board members are referenced in other Wikipedia articles (do a Wikipedia search for 'Weeden Foundation'.

The original version of the article can temporarily be found here: http://www.ecofuture.org/private/wf_wikipedia_content_formatted_2012may24_fe.txt

You can apply for Deletion Review at Wikipedia:Deletion_review - but it does appear to be way, way over promotional, with zero in-line references.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:09, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So presuming I would want to add more references, what is the procedure to resubmit the article? Fred Elbel (talk) 21:23, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
