[edit]Hi Frecklefoot, thanks for the barnstar. Coincidentally, I was just looking into the videogames wikiproject talk archive (for some research for a piece I'm writing about the project), and I noticed your name way back on the first page, in 2004. You certainly deserve a barnstar for your ongoing work - but I see this was already awarded to you, four years ago! Kinda scary. Well, I'll give you a "shout out" in the piece, anyway. Marasmusine (talk) 13:52, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks! Yeah, I guess I am an old-timer here. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 14:38, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
game producer recruitment subsection
[edit]Hi, not sure why the video game producer recuitment subsection, with reference and citing of article about getting in to the role within a major label has been removed? Let me know —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bcooper77 (talk • contribs) 16:42, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Redlinks
[edit]The justification is that they -are- redlinks, thus no need for the paticular parantheses. 13:51, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- I edit hundreds of articles, so in the future, please state your particular issue. Luckily, I know what you're talking about, my edit here. I'm not sure I understand your explanation above. Please elaborate. Thank you. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 13:59, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Recent edit/undo on 31st Augurst 2010 regarding South African Game Development on "Game development"
[edit]Hi Chris,
I'm the owner of "South African Game Development" / sagamedev.com
I recently added an external link on the wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_development
The link was to help South Africans interested in the subject matter to find www.sagamedev.com I see the update got undone.
Is the article an inappropriate place to add the link? If it is, which article will be an appropriate place?
Best Regards, Jacques Korax1978 (talk) 08:26, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
- Wikipedia gets a lot of additions of links to other websites by users trying to advertise their site. Wikipedia is not the place to do this. Please take a look at the policy at WP:EL. If you think my undo of your edit was unjust, please take the matter up on the game development talk page or the Video games WikiProject. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 10:59, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
- I think the link was removed unjustly since SAGD has done allot to promote game development in Southern Africa, and it is still doing allot. In my books it is no different than what gamedev.net or any of the other game development sites is doing. It deserves to be listed in Game development WitMamba (talk) 14:29, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
- Sure. Except what GameDev and the other sites do is international, widely recongnized within the game industry, etc. Wikipedia is an international encyclopedia, not a South African encyclopedia. Just allowing your site would open the floodgates for a German game development site, Spanish, French, Brazilian, etc. Plus, I notice your only activity on Wikipedia is to edit my talk page. So I suspect that you are a sock puppet for Korax1978. If not, you are at least a friend or other ally. And your user page says you even own a similar website.
- I've said my piece. I don't think it's justified. If you disagree, bring it up at the other two places I recommended above. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 14:55, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Sock puppet my ass lol Don't accuse someone of something unless you can prove it. I am a Namibian developer not South African. I support South African game development as well as any and all African game development since the industry is still in early stages. I accept and respect your explanation but I will advice you to refrain from personal attacks. Korax has done allot to improve game development in our part of the world. I would expect a fellow game developer like you to at least respect that. WitMamba (talk) 20:14, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

you're on the radio
[edit]Hi Frecklefoot, you may recall that I mentioned I was writing a "piece" on the videogames wikiproject. It's actually a short, regular feature on the radio show "One Life Left". For the next couple of episodes I'm doing short (30-60 second) profiles on some of the wikiproject members. I decided to profile you first... well I gotta start somewhere! It will probaby air on Monday, and in podcast form at http://www.onelifeleft.com/ later in the week. Thanks, Marasmusine (talk) 13:06, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Social video game
[edit]A tag has been placed on Social video game, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.
If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}}
to the page and state your reasoning on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. DASHBot (talk) 06:01, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:HackerRobot.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:HackerRobot.gif. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:59, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

sleep paralysis
[edit]why are you reverting the change to the sleep paralysis page. cease now or you will be reported to the admins for sabotage. you provided no reason for your revert. ah i now see your motivation. you belong to a religious denomination. now refrain from sabotage or you will be reported. if you dont agree with my edit, you can discuss it on the talk page of the article. nothing gives you the right to revert for no reaosn.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.250.81.218 (talk • contribs)
- I do belong to a religious organization, but it has no impact on why I reverted your edit. I make a number of helpful edits on subjects which I am opposed to or don't agree with—I try not to let my personal opinions get in the way of NPOV, one of the pillars here on Wikipedia. And I'm not opposed to the content of your edit. The reason I reverted it is because it appeared to be complete original research, something forbidden on Wikipedia. If you have a verifiable, reliable reference for your statement, fine, include it and I—as well as other editors who have also reverted your change—won't be so inclined to revert it.
- You want to report me to the admins? Fine, please do so. I'm a Senior Editor here with over 8 years of contributions, and I've garnered nothing but praise. That nothwithstanding, I think they'd back me and not you. Don't make threats; nothing gets accomplished that way.— Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 19:10, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- Well then not to be rude, which i was previously, in reaction to your reversion, but you should post a topic in discussion asking for clarification of the edit, or at least a reason in the revert to let someone know why it was reverted. I was originally only testing to see how an edit would be taken by the wiki community and always intended to provide more information in due time, through discussion or by other users such as yourself adding to my content, not reversion wars. But thank you for your consideration and my apologies. 64.250.81.218 (talk) 21:10, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- Although, technically your statement that the admins would back you and not the IP user is also a threat. Awkward, isn't it? Though in the case of Sleep paralysis, I do note those additions were WP:OR. mechamind90 06:23, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Autopatrolled
[edit]Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:
- This permission does not give you any special status or authority
- Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
- You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page
- If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it
If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing!HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:09, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Hail. I'm in need of a third opinion regarding the description of the RTS game Majesty. It's a delightful one: it takes the tropes and genre conventions of RPG cities and adds them to a different genre. The player is the king of a realm littered with evil lairs and inexplicable treasure chests. His soldiers are useless against monsters, forcing him to hire heroes, who are controlled by offering quest rewards. Every hero has a name, level, inventory and stats. Taxes for things like healing potion sales are a major part of the economy. A cliché storm. This was described (tersely) in the game's article until an anon changed it "to make it more objective and Wiki-like, and less of somepmegame review." The new version is frankly horrible, but in the interest of fairness and honing my skills and soppiness I'd like to ask if you think the anon's complaints are valid. Personally, I don't see anything that would be subjective or review-like, and as for "wiki-like," moving away from the general state of our prose is to be desired...
I addressed this message to you on the grounds that you were the first regular with RPGs in their edit history that I found. If you fail to care or don't have the time to check things out, please reply with the word "triumvirate" and I'll go bug someone else. --Kizor 20:41, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- You can bring up issues like this on the article's talk page, but looking at the two edits, yours seemed a little subjective and, frankly, I found it confusing. I'm not familiar with this game, so I really can't comment beyond that. All content contributed to Wikipedia should be free from bias and from a neutral point of view. Regards, — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 00:17, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
- I can, but getting an answer within a reasonable time is another thing. Thanks for yours! I don't think my description is subjective (the statements are immediately apparent from the work without specialist knowledge) but I must concede confusing. Majesty's concept is simple enough, but it and its sequel are the only games of their kind. I'll have to write a more elaborate description that'll clarify the mechanics for readers unfamiliar with the game, and I think I can dig up a couple of cites to back it up. --Kizor 08:05, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

GOCE / Mid-drive newsletter
[edit] Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.
So far, 79 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 64 have participated. Interest is high due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page, and many new and first-time copy editors have joined us for the drive. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We have assisted in the promotion of seven articles to Good article status so far this month.
We have already achieved our target of reducing the overall backlog by 10%; however, we have more work to do with the 2009 backlog. We have almost eliminated May 2009 and we only have some 700 articles left from 2009. It is excellent progress, so let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

- Not sure if it's appropriate for me to chime in or to provide the spam (I happened to notice the question while looking at "my" thread, perhaps you want to have a look at the Facebook group "Game AI" where some industry pundits such as Jeff Orkin roam, as well as some less-renowned mortals such as yours truly. You could also email me; of course I cannot answer any question on User:Frecklefoot's approach to game AI of course if that is specifically your desire, but perhaps I can provide a few general pointers. Game development tool OR
[edit]Sorry, normally I am (provably) the first to keep as much content as possible and add cn tags or others, and try to get such sections improved. But in this case, it was such an "extremely" blanket, unsourced (and probably unsourceable) statement that had been unchanged in almost 2 years, that I didn't see any chance for saving it. You may have noticed that I responded to the IP responding to the IP. Only on second look I realized just how bad the section was, on so many levels. Feel free to differ (I won't revert), but I really don't think it is possible to provide any kind of reliable source on what kinds of tools actual game developers (and not just the odd one here and the odd one there, and the one or two who make their tools public) are using and in what languages they write them. If you'd rather keep it the way it is, perhaps you could help in toning it down a little; I wouldn't know where to start and what would be left once the OR, "extreme" language and vague claims are gone: "This makes sense since,", "This is because", "an extremely RAD language", "often needed", "extremely quickly", "most popular" -- Nczempin (talk) 17:36, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I re-worded it. Is that satisfactory?
- I don't develop video games anymore, but I'm still friends with many people who do and overwhelmingly they use C# for their tool creation. But I don't have a verifiable ref to back it up. Hopefully the re-wording is unbiased enough. Hope to get a ref someday! — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 18:29, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
- Well, it is better for the second paragraph of the section; you didn't touch the first one. But doesn't it strike you that now the second paragraph is not really saying anything? You do realize that your friends, no matter how copious (with all due respect, I doubt that they are a valid cross-section of the entire world-wide community of game-developers, both hobby, independent and commercial, in the US, Europe, Japan and elsewhere), are not sufficient evidence to support the statements. If we had anything like a GDC, Gamasutra or Game Developer survey "what language(s) do you use to develop your tools" it would at least be a start. In the end, does it even matter what the tools are written in? Does it really add that much value to the article to know that tools are pretty much written in any language that it makes sense to write tools in? -- Nczempin (talk) 18:37, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, good points. Go ahead and delete the section. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 00:07, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Jacob Barnett
[edit]You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
A tag has been placed on Jacob Barnett requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about it should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you can assert the notability of the subject, contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and give your reasons on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
See the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. Negi(afk) (talk) 19:36, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
GOCE drive newsletter
[edit] Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive report
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive! This newsletter summarizes the March drive and other recent events.
There were 99 signups for the drive; of these, 70 participated. Interest was high mainly due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page. We had a record-breaking 84 articles listed on the Requests page in March; 11 of these have been promoted to Good article status so far. Several of our recent efforts have received Featured Article status as well, and the GOCE is becoming a solid resource for the Wikipedia community. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.
Remarkable progress was made in reducing the backlog this month, as we now have fewer than 500 articles remaining from 2009. We are well under the 4,000-article mark for the total number remaining in the queue. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 53% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their April drive has started.
On March 21, SMasters appointed Chaosdruid (talk) and Torchiest (talk) as Guild coordinators to serve in place of The Utahraptor, who recently stepped down. GOCE drive invitation
[edit]Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors
The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting. This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated. We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". |

Hi, Frecklefoot. I've removed the {{inline}} tag that you placed in the references section of Mother and Child Reunion (Degrassi: The Next Generation). I've done this because when I wrote the article I followed practices at WP:SFN, using short citations. Refs 2, 7, 10, 15, 16, and more use Kathryn Ellis' book as a source, and they are inline citations. If you have an issue with this style, it's better to take it up at WT:CITE rather than slap a tag on Today's Featured Article, which looks very unprofessional. Regards, Matthewedwards : Chat 17:28, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't see the short citations. Apologies for hasty edit. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 18:00, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
Parenthetical sentences
[edit]Hi. I noticed your edits at Stradivarius and wanted to mention that some authorities, such as the Chicago Manual of Style as I recall, suggest that parenthetical remarks consisting of full sentences be written as separate sentences in parentheses when possible. (This is an example.) They make an exception for short formulaic sentences such as "(see page 47)". I'm used to this recommendation and strongly prefer it, but I usually don't change the other style here because both are accepted.
Of course, you later changed the parenthesis to a footnote, which I thought was a good solution. I'm just pointing out that both styles have their advocates. —JerryFriedman (Talk) 16:43, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, you're free to change it back and I won't revert it. As a personal preference, I really hate seeing parenthetical phrases as sentences unto themselves. But, as you note, it looks like it's more of a personal preference. Thanks for pointing to the authority that suggests it. I thought it was wrong, now I know it can go either way. Thanks for enlightening me. : ) — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 16:57, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
- As I said, I like the way you left it. Here's a reference for the style I was talking about. [1]. And we'll continue to have opposite personal preferences. :-) —JerryFriedman (Talk) 06:10, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
The article JAMDAT Mobile has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

Non-free rationale for File:TapperGameplay.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:TapperGameplay.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:02, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

==Edit on Life Technologies Wiki Page Thanks Frecklefoot for the correction - I did think it was looking odd. I'm a new user - the point I wanted to highlight, and perhaps not very clearly was that - the brand 'Life Technologies' is a brand of Thermo Fisher Scientific in the US. In countries for example in India, Life Technologies is not a brand of Thermo Fisher but corporate name(s) of other Biotechnology Companies. (see press article below and Delhi High Court Order in the cited in the Report). http://www.biopharma-reporter.com/Upstream-Processing/Fight-for-Life-new-Thermo-Fisher-acquisition-loses-out-in-India Champi4mcollege
