FM, I was gone from Friday till Tuesday with scrambling on either side of the trip, so I didn't get to write sooner. I'm really sorry that it didn't work out. I think that two biased editors shot you down with energized buzz words, and then we had a drive-by pile-on. I too edit in some pretty unsavory articles from time to time to keep WP uncensored but out of the gutter and avoiding soapbox. I think that those who don't get into the edgier issues lack the experience to solve problems, but it is hard to stand in the gutter without getting stinky. One thing: If there are in-universe facts verifiable by a particular issue of a comic book itself, then that issue is the direct, concrete source to cite. Citing this book for things that the comics themselves verify seems like book promotion. --Tenebrae (talk) 21:04, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Well, I guess can't argue with your reasoning; it's sound, and I empathize completely. I guess I would only use this book about NYC locations to cite location-oriented facts; the cite for Dr. Strange going to the Himalayas and meeting the Ancient One seemed a bit outside that.

And take heart: Captain America and Galactus both contain voluminous citations from the comics themselves, so, hopefully, the situation isn't as dire as all that (though heaven knows I understand how frustrating it can be sometimes to work in a community more fan-oriented perhaps, than research-oriented. One can be both, after all.)

Fiction

Good comments at Fiction. I'm afraid this won't die easilly, and not with out some pain. My experience is that these need to have oak stakes driven throguh the hearts, or these become the undead. Film was a good example of a very emotional subject that wouldn't died and finaly passed when people were just worn-out and the right forum was in attendance. Regarding this, refer to the Alumnus article: "As indicated in the American Heritage Dictionary, an alumnus or alumna is either someone who has attended the school (or a "former student of a school") or someone who has graduated from the school."

Just a note re Moshikal

This is something I commented on at Moshikal's talk page, but I just wanted to drop the note here as well.

The editor is, now and again, hitting infoboxes that have problem images. The one you cited, Machinesmith, is such a case: the old image is from one of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe runs. Using those is counter to the project guides since it's pulling an image from an encyclopedia and putting it to the same use.

If Moshikal had left an edit summary (another major issue in and of itself) stating that was the reason for the change, I would have less of a quibble. But without that, it just looks like part of the "newer" pattern.

And I agree with you, it would be nice if he engaged in discussions. I'm aware that fair use does not permit the uploading of images from DC Who's Who and OHOTMU and similar resources.

What's most frustrating, to me, is that Moshikal more than occasionally does upload images that are useful and correctly sized. A good deal of his/her edits are genuinely valuable to the project. The category has more than one entry in it. But if you look at it, all but one of the albums in the category was co-produced by Walsh and at least two other people. The same was pretty much true of Category:Albums produced by Robert Ellis Orralll, which had six co-produced albums but none produced exclusively by him. Thanks for the feedback on the Vertigo Encyclopaedia - that pretty much confirms my suspicions: it seems so broad n its coverage it is going to rather thin (especially considering series like Sandman have been the focus of books). So I don't think I'm going to be rushing out to buy it.

I also agree with what you say about referencing - there are a lot of resources out there and it is sad that people aren't working on adding these, instead there is a lot of interest in endlessly regurgitating plot. I can only contribute things that interest me largely because there is a vast amount of material out there and only one of me. When I specifically going looking (as I did with Greg Pak and during the AfD for Michael Bair) there are plenty even in online resources, not to mention those in print. Ah well we can only do our best - so thanks for mining the resources you have.

No consensus at Origen

I am kindly asking you to re-evaluate the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Origen, which you earlier closed as "No consensus". Most votes seemed to unambiguously support deletion of the current disambiguation page to make room to move Origen of Alexandria back to Origen, and a move of the current content of Origen of Alexandria to Origen (disambiguation). The "keep" votes either gave no reason, never mind one based in WP:MOS, or demurred on procedural grounds that this was a matter for WP:Requested moves, not AfD. If it is indeed what you feel as well, I'd have appreciated you saying that in your closing assessment, particularly so I know whether to take it there instead of deletion review. AFD has two outcomes, either delete or not-delete. I felt that there was no consensus to delete the page, and closed as such. Whether the page should be edited, moved, disambiguated, etc. is not a matter for AFD, and you are free (I think) to make the moves that you suggest as a normal editorial action. Redirects

Do you have something against redirecting articles, so that I don't exactly have to clog the AfD pages as much? When articles aren't going to receive any responses using merge tags, boldly merging or redirecting is an acceptable practice. Reverting them just forces me to nominate them at a later point. Just because I'm some sort of "evil ne'er-do-well" to people, it shouldn't entail undoing completely valid redirects. TTN (talk) 19:10, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

De-facto deleting articles that have recently gone through AfD as keep is disruptive. And the reason you don't want to clog AfD pages with nomination after nomination after nomination is a self-serving one, so I ask that you spare your hand-jive of altruism. Only six of them were in a recent AfD that ended in a keep (which only received three votes that had nothing to do with notability). What was the reason to revert the rest of them? DC Comics Encyclopedia article

I have been kicking around a few ideas here (and see the matching replies on my talk page). I suspect we should be able to find enough information to give add solid material on background and reception which would be more helpful than other articles which simply list the contents (e.g. OHOTMU) -I know the information I'd be looking for would be what the process would be in bringing this together and what reviewers thought of the breadth and depth of the volume (s).
