Draft:Frank J. Manheim conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Fmanheim1. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Draft:Frank J. Manheim, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. MarkZusab (talk) 18:52, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
MarkZusab thank you for your help, I added the disclosure to the top of my talk page. Fmanheim1 (talk) 19:07, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Fmanheim1 and thank you for your attempt at disclosing your COI. Unfortunately, as far as I can see there's been a mistake. At the top of this talk page you have added the {{Connected contributor}} template, but that should be placed on the talk page of the article in question. The template to use on your own talk page is {{UserboxCOI}}. Please note that in both cases, these templates only inform readers you have made a COI declaration somewhere, so you need to actually explain your connection to the subject of the article in question (that would be Frank J. Manheim in this case) and then point the template to that somewhere. If you have already declared your COI, perhaps in an edit summary, feel free to tell me where if you want help updating the COI template(s). PS. Instructions on how to disclose a COI are at WP:DISCLOSE. Regards CapnZapp (talk) 10:11, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
You keep using the {{Connected contributor}} template, but its place is neither on your talk page nor on your user page. You should use a different template called {{UserboxCOI}}. Maybe it's easier if I tell you what I would have done:
- First, I would have explained what my connection is to Frank J. Manheim in regular English (you could do that right here on your talk page).
- Then, I would have put the {{UserboxCOI}} template on my user page with the
|1=
parameter pointing to the article in question, namely Draft:Frank J. Manheim, like so:{{UserboxCOI|1=Draft:Frank J. Manheim}}
- Finally, me or some other editor could place the {{Connected contributor}} template on the Draft:Frank J. Manheim page, if I made significant contributions to the upcoming article (like you have), pointing back to where I made my COI declaration (in step 1). Since you declared your COI (in step 2), you could at this stage remove or archive the {{uw-coi}} template put at the top of this section (by Mark Zusab)
Remember, that's my personal advice only. Hope that helps. Also keep in mind that you should avoid editing the article directly, as explained by the COI policy outlined above: "propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template)". - I have added the {{Connected contributor}} template where it belongs: on the article (draft) talk page, here: Draft Talk:Frank J. Manheim. You can (and should) remove this template from your user page and your talk page (=this page) now. Thank you for declaring your connection. CapnZapp (talk) 11:02, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- I see you added the {{UserboxCOI}} template to your user page. I took the liberty of correcting a small typo preventing it from functioning as intended, but since it is your user page you should feel free to revert me or ask me to undo my change if you don't like it. (I did not remove the {{Connected contributor}} template, since you should be the one editing your user page) CapnZapp (talk) 11:04, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
