Speedy deletion of Alder Valley
[edit]A tag has been placed on Alder Valley requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit]Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, such as in Talk:Alder Valley, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 20:54, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Alder Valley
[edit]I note a strange confusion: in Talk:Alder Valley (bus company) you say "being unable to edit the title of the article ..." and in an edit summary you say "moved content to page entitled Alder Valley". Now in Wikipedia terminology you did not move the text; you did a copy and paste. But what should have done was to do a proper move - there is a tab with the word "move" on it when you view an article - and that achieves the effect of "editing the title".
I apologise for further moving the text to put "(bus company)" at the end. I assumed that there must exist a River Alder and that "Alder Valley" would be ambiguous. On further investigation I cannot find any River Alder but a) I suggest you leave the article where it is for the moment, and b) add a note in the article to explain the derivation of the name.
It is not a sin for the author of an article to remove a prod tag, however when you do so, to keep Carlossuarez46 happy, please add a couple more external references. -- RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 04:50, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]Thanks for pointing out the move facility. Indeed there is no River Alder, nor even a Valley, the name was a completely artificial amalgamation of the two former names. I can add a few more external references, but actually, some of this isn't documented anywhere else - that's why I wrote it. Let's face it, we're talking about a bus company here. It's never going to be considered notable by most people. Thanks again for your help.--Fletch5535 (talk) 08:19, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Alder Valley
[edit]Hi Fletch5535, I have been adding quite a lot of stuff to this page and thought I should get in touch as it appears that you gave birth to the article. I hope you consider what I have done to be worthwhile and that the changes have not caused any offence. I'm a bus enthusiast local to the AV area and would not like to see the article deleted; it would seem the best way to keep the article on Wiki is to put as much relevant info as possible into it so that a layman who knows little about the subject or the geographical area can at least see that the company was important and retains historical significance. I hope my amendments have helped to do this. Thanks for creating the article in the first place and please let me know if you think I have changed anything for the worse.
