Hello

[edit]

Hi. Tristram has been annoying and put two userboxes onto your user space. I removed them. Feel free to put them back. Tristram would like you to put the 'Whitgiftian' userbox onto your userpage. A userbox (in case you don't know) is a box which you can use to give a small fact about yourself. An example of a user page with lots of userboxes is mine, which is here. The Whitgiftian userbox can be added with the text user Whitgiftian enclosed in double curly brackets. It creates a box and adds you to the category Wikipedian Whitgiftians. For more about userboxes, visit Wikipedia:Userboxes. Any questions can be put on my talk page. Thank you! Daniel () 17:46, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Open letter to the "Whitgiftians"

Wikipedia welcomes contributors regardless of age, but it would be nice to see you actually contribute. So far most of you (with the exception of Dbmag9) seem to have been more interested in building and editing each other's userpages. If your interests go mainly in that direction, perhaps your needs would be better served by getting MySpace or LiveJournal accounts? Remember that Wikipedia is not a free host, blog, or webspace provider.

It is OK to have a Wikipedia account without editing (e.g., in order to keep a watchlist or a non-default skin). But to maintain an elaborate userpage without actually contributing to the actual encyclopedic borders on being a waste of project resources. Henning Makholm 21:41, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
