If you refuse to fix your links, then I choose to give up Wikipedia!
In the future, please ACCURATELY LINK TO THINGS so that OTHER USERS CAN READ THEM. And then, TALK TO USERS ABOUT PROBLEMS instead of claiming that they are evil and are "attacking".
I do not want to "attack" anything or anyone, why do you accuse me of this????
Saluations anyway, and God bless you! 99.70.91.145 (talk) 03:22, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Treatment of Rare Lung Cancers

Hi FinalRapture:

Actually, I removed the content because the article, as written, structurally stinks and begs for a complete revamping. The lack of an edit comment was an oversight. I will leave it like it is then - stinky - until I have the time and motivation to fix it. You can of course fix it if you like :-) TTYL.

Best regards: Cliff L. Knickerbocker, MS (talk) 19:14, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Files for deletion

Hey, FinalRapture, I'm writing back, re: the two pictures, KillRonan.jpg and BenjaminErstad.jpg. I made those two pictures with this site and it said that you had to press the "print screen" button to save them. I don't know about copyright laws, but I'm sure it says so on the site. Again, just clarifying. qö₮$@37 (talk) 23:53, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Re: The Computer Paper cover images

Hello there:

I saw that you tagged File:1993-08 The Computer Paper Cover Ontario Edition.jpg and File:1988-02 The Computer Paper Cover BC Edition.jpg as being "Orphaned, non-free" images.

Subsequently I have added them both to The Computer Paper (magazine) article in a new gallery section. They each represent specific milestone's in the magazine's history, namely the very first issue, and a sample regional edition of the magazine.

I hope this meets your requirements and that they can be retained within WP. If there are other issues, please let me know and I will see what I can do to deal with them. Cheers! Captmondo (talk) 16:01, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

I think the relevant section is actually Non-free image use in galleries rather than the NFCC you point out, which does not state anything directly on the issue. The NFG section says that this sort of arrangement is usually not acceptable, though it ought to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, so what is your rationale for deletion? Having said that, would it be instead more acceptable to use those images within the body of the article instead and have them be deemed acceptable use? Captmondo (talk) 19:09, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism in 'lingua franca'

I am not an experienced in editing wikipedia. Going forward, I shall keep your constructive feedback in mind. Thanks.
By the way, I have only deleted incorrect sub-sections from the artile 'lingua franca'. I have also provided justification for this in the talk page under the section 'Bengali, Tamil and Telugu - Erroneous entries'. I revisited the talk page today thinking someone would challenge this edit in and that I shall reply to them. But the edit was summarily reverted! Anyway, I shall use the sandbox and edit things in proper way going forward using my own account. In the meantime, please challenge my edit in the talk page or consider reverting your changes.

Bot feasability

Hello, your name came recommended as a possible author for a bot request that might be made in the near future; I wanted to pass the idea in front of you to get an idea of what might be feasable and what might not be realistic for a request (and to make sure nothing already existed that may do the job).

Operation Majestic Titan (OMT) is an article-improvement drive regarding battleships, and we have it divided into five phases, (currently still in the first one). We have a subpage for each (such as Phase I), which has a list of relevant articles under the scope and a tally of each by quality (as in this subpage for Phase I), plus a project total (this page is currently inactive); both of these are transcluded to other pages for visibility in more than one spot. Right now, it's been noted that there is a large burden for editors to manually update a handful of pages (about five ATM) every time an article gets reassessed to a different class, and we want to automate at least some of that burden. We are looking at User:WP 1.0 bot for some of it, but we think that will only eliminate one of the edits necessary, and we were thinking about requesting a bot for all of it.

I think that may have been confusing, so let me sum up the task with an example: an editor takes the article USS Wikipedia (BB-1337) through the GAN process and it passes. It is listed on the Phase I page as B-class, which needs to be updated. The counts of GA- and B-class articles on this and this page need to be updated. Would a bot be able to handle this, and would we need to make some infrastructure (categories, edits to {{WPMILHIST}}, etc.) to make this possible? If we need to use the project banner and category method, would we be able to get the bot to read the list of articles and modify the banners on the talk pages for us?

Many thanks in advance. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 19:41, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for coming to be for help, I'm not sure if everything you're describing is best as a bot, maybe with some templating it would be better off. You should talk to the people behind that bot to see what it's capable of. I also think you should mod the {{WPMILHIST}} template to have OPT phases to put it in a category. Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. monosock 04:55, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

File:Air France 8969 raid.jpg
The GIGN Storms the plane

About the image from Air France Flight 8969, I found this on a chat website and I assumed that this photo was a free domain photo. Plus, as a French-American, I wanted to show fellow Wikipedians at least one photo of the hijacking. Isn't free domain the free use of a photo? And I listed as much information of the source as possible. DarthKieduss (talk) 15:11, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi DK. That image is not a free domain photo. Unless stated otherwise, the image is to be automatically assumed as copyrighted. Additionally, on closer inspection, the image looks to be edited for humorous purposes, and is not encyclopedic. Due to these failures to meet policy, it is marked for speedy deletion under criteria F9. FinalRapture - 16:37, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Bot problem

Hi FR, your bot has twice told me that an image I've uploaded lacks copyright status. It's a cropped version of an image that was uploaded and released by the author. Not sure what else the bot wants. See File:Jonathan King (cropped).jpg. Cheers, SlimVirgin talk|contribs 15:56, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi SV. The bot marked that image as not having a copyright because the copyright template used wasn't in Category:Wikipedia image copyright templates. I've added the template to that category so this won't be a problem anymore. FinalRapture - 16:28, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

FR, I noticed you reverted the vandalism by Themachonachoboy. As a relatively new editor, I wondered: do you report the problem, too? (I'm still daunted by the weird world of Wikipedia and how things are accomplished, an odd mixture of Byzantine structure and anarchy.) BTW, I think your (bird) picture is great.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:16, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Hey Bbb23, you should read up on wikipedia's policy on vandalism, it should answer some of your questions. And thanks about my picture :-) FinalRapture - 17:20, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
I looked at the vandalism policy. The word "some" is key. As whenever I look at WP policies, I get lost in all the branches. Putting that aside, did you take any action other than reversion? I didn't see a warning on the user's talk page (I saw other warnings). Thanks for sticking with me.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:08, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Hm, it looks like I didn't warn him on that one. If I remember the tool I was using, huggle, crashed before handing out the warning so he never received one from me. Check out this list of standardized user warnings to help you out. Any more questions please feel free to ask. FinalRapture - 19:15, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
I think you should put a warning on his talk page. He already has three, and it creates a record. Just my two cents.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:03, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Before taking any action on a user an administrator looks at their contributions. They will see that he has x vandalism edits. The warnings are notification for the user to stop what they are doing. It's pretty late to give a warning, plus the user already has 3 others, another one isn't going to greatly affect them. FinalRapture - 20:11, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks very much for the explanation. I'll stop worrying about it. :-) --Bbb23 (talk) 21:15, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

NowCommons with two versions of the picture

Hi, I first wanted to thank you for making this bot as it will greatly help in the process of moving images. I also wanted to let you know that I reverted this edit by your bot. The bot saw that the file on Commons was not the same as the current picture here, but it is actually the same as the first version in the file's history, which was a much higher resolution. Typically I will always move the best version of the file to Commons, which isn't always the current. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 05:36, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Also, this diff shows the bot change the tags to just say NowCommons. This image was uploaded to Commons with a better name and then moved again to Commons under the same name. I'm not sure if having the bot change the tag in this way is desirable, as both are currently correct. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 05:39, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
See below. FinalRapture - 14:56, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

RaptureBot and F8 tag removals

Can you please explain why your bot removed the {{NowCommons}} tag from en:File:Colbert haircut army.mil-40677-2009-06-11-130625.jpg (Edit Diff) (And examples of 15 more) as being against policy (F8) when it is not. CSD F8 clearly claims that "same or higher quality/resolution" is a valid reason for deletion which is what your bot detagged.

I'm also inquiring why your bot is converting {{db-nowcommons}} to {{nowcommons}}, or removing the filenames from the templates (Example Diff) as a separate task or in combination with the previously mentioned task (Example Diff) if they are the same on commons since that makes no difference to how the templates work, Since it is commonly pointed out in Bot Requests that solely changing templates redirects is a waste of resources server resources. I'm also wondering about the edits where your bot removes templates for files that apparently never made it commons (Example Diff) because your Request for Bot Approval does not appear to cover these activities. Peachey88 (Talk Page · Contribs) 13:01, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Converting or removing the filenames from templates is done so that images that have the same name are in the right category, it creates less work for the bot in the future. For removing the templates and removing NowCommons because it isn't on commons I'll go back and revert those. FinalRapture - 14:56, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
Done. The only thing it will do now is convert moved to commons templates with file parameters of the same name as the current image only if there is one template, and update image uses. FinalRapture - 15:25, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Your old talk page

Hi. Several days ago, there was a request at WP:REFUND#User_talk:CWii for your old talk page to be undeleted. I was able to find what the user needed regarding your bots and resolve the issue without restoring it. But since you are he and you are editing again, unless there is a strong reason to leave it deleted (privacy, etc), the history should probably be restored for transparency and redirected to your new account. Do you have a preference either way? --B (talk) 18:19, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

I'd rather it stay deleted for privacy reasons. FinalRapture - 21:00, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

The old John Bot tasks

I recently came upon the John Bot II image tags and categories, and was wondering why nothing was happening. The John Bots led me to CWii, who was apparently banned along with the bots. And then, at random, I noticed that you were now self-identifying as CWii (per the banner at the top of the current revision this page). So with that all cleared up, I guess I can just ask you a bit about those bots.

What was the procedure by which the bots were identifying images? Was it all user-requested actions (such as for uncopyrightable images composed of text), and were there any instructions for best practices, or any oversight those requests? (Basically, can another bot just act on the outstanding tags, or should someone manually verify tagged images, of which there are a couple hundred?)

What about when the bot fails to move an image (Category:Images John Bot II failed to move)? Should those just be moved manually, or is there a specific reason why the bot did not move them? TheFeds 21:29, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

All the images were hand picked by users with a tool, with categories in mentioned in the template. The bot would take those images, run them through CommonsHelper for the image page text, and upload them. The failed images were mostly technical failures if I recall correctly. If you're looking to do anything to replace or remove the templates I request that you hold off from doing so. I have plans to work on a new service similar to CommonsHelper to move images. FinalRapture - 21:47, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism? By Me?

Regards: Cliff L. Knickerbocker, MS (talk) 05:33, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

I'll keep this simple. If you're going to remove a large portion of text use an edit summary to tell other editors what your intentions are. You need to chill out. FinalRapture - 10:09, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, VERY bad day. Consider me chilled.

Bot malfunction?

Hi! With this edit your bot tagged the image with {{orfud}} although the image was used in the article namespace at the time. I don't know why and it has been corrected, just thought I'd let you know. Cheers! --MrStalker (talk) 16:12, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm at a lost why it would do that. Possibly the bot was given cached data (or something), I don't have an explanation for that. FinalRapture - 20:05, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
But thank you for letting me know that there's a new NFS:HP game coming out, I always would play the second one :-) FinalRapture - 20:06, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

fyi

A bot that claims you are its owner applied this tag which asserts an image is orphaned.

That image is clearly not orphaned. So I am going to remove the tag. Geo Swan (talk) 01:52, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

No, that image is not used in any articles so it is orphaned. FinalRapture - 02:52, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
Something is wrong with the usage data for the image, I see that it's in use. FinalRapture - 02:57, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

File:Platinum Metals Review cover image.jpg

I created this image at 2:47, 16 June 2010. At 03:47, 16 June 2010 the bot tagged the article for speedy deletion because it is an orphaned image. I believe I am allowed much longer than one hour to place this image into the designated article. I am removing the speedy delete tag. In fact I believe I have a few days leeway. I do not intend to take that long, but one hour is a little fast. Especially, if I am tweaking the article it is intended for. Thanks. ----Steve Quinn (talk) 04:02, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Really? I think one hour is a good amount of leeway, in most cases the image is uploaded because it is intended to be added immediatley. In most cases the ones that aren't used within an hour won't be used later. FinalRapture - 11:36, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
Since, you deal with these types of images much more than me, I will rely on your experience in this matter. Is this the long version of me saying - "Oh, I didn't know that"? I think it is. No problem. In my case, you are correct. I intended to use the image right away, but got involved with other editing instead. ----Steve Quinn (talk) 02:21, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Image Screening Bot

Why did it do this? diff I already had a non-free rationale for the logo... Logan Talk Contributions 15:30, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! I misunderstood the message. Logan Talk Contributions 22:01, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

I think I have chosen a wrong category for this image. I took it from Turkish Vikipedi, and the user who uploaded it to the Vikipedi says he took a snapshot from IHH live broadcast from satellite, therefore there is not a copyright problem. Can you help in choosing categories? Kavas (talk) 17:41, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Yes there is a copyright problem. Please an appropriate non-free image template similar to the one used the the Turkish Wikipedia, or find an English source for the image. I see it's under fair use but what kind is unknown. I you could provide me with more details about the image it would be helpful. FinalRapture - 20:05, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

RealD

Someone's deleting recent RealD films from the List of RealD films. Today marks the third time in four days I undid the mess. The same person (an anon, mind you) deleted the same films three times over four days. Please report him before he does it again. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 02:47, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

I'll keep an eye on the page. FinalRapture - 04:28, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

I honestly don't believe that it's a good idea to remove the box. It's best to keep it at the top your talk page to make sure. But feel free to disagree with me. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 04:19, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

I think it's fine, it's just clutter. I'll be happy to confirm from here on out. FinalRapture - 04:26, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

PDW

I have a problem. I am a writing an article on Bowen High School: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowen_High_School. I want to insert some a image, a picture. I have permission with the photographer on file, so I filled the information (description, source, etc.) and a copy to Wikimedia: Image:Bowen Panoramic of Front Entrance/Declaration. But, an upload warning: File extension does not match MIME type. Exactly what is it mean and how do I fix it? Thank you in advance. Paul David Wilson 22:51, 19 June 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pauldavidwilson (talkcontribs)

It means that the extension of the image you are trying to upload doesn't match it's contents. If you can upload it someplace else (Like filebox) I can try to upload it for you. Thanks. FinalRapture - 23:23, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Image Screening Bot

Good afternoon, Final Rapture.

I was rightly notified on my talkpage by your robot that this image was marked for deletion on or after 27 June due to the fact I failed to place the image upon the article it relates to.

I have now placed the image upon the article in question and have removed the deletion template. I hope this rectifies matters (noting in the text of the deletion template wording which leads me to believe that as the image is no longer an orphan, I as the uploader am authorised to do so).

If I am mistaken, or need to make further edits, please can you inform me as such.

Your assistance is appreciated. Kindest regards--Kieronoldham (talk) 14:56, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Nope, that's all. FinalRapture - 17:10, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Image Screening Bot screwed up

The bot gave me a notice that said File:SonicAdventure2Grinding.JPG was orphaned, but it is not. I checked the history of the article it is licensed for, and no changes were ever made to remove the image. Could some other glitch have occurred? Tezero (talk) 21:45, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

The same for File:9th Sleep Cover.jpg. --KrebMarkt 21:52, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Bot stopped, investigating. FinalRapture - 22:03, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
There's some sort of bug in the framework the bot uses, stand by. The bot will remain down until I find it. FinalRapture - 22:05, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
so that was why I received a orphan message a second ago. --Alpha Quadrant (talk) 22:08, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Bot fixed, resuming operation. FinalRapture - 23:08, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Photo question

Hi there. I created the page for Ross Tiger and your bot has recently questioned something to do with the copyright for the image File:Fish room of Ross Leopard.jpg. I'm new to Wikipedia and am unsure how to fix this/not sure if I have already! The image is owned by me - is in a file of my recently deceased Grandfather, is of him, and the file is now in my families posession. How can I fix this to keep the image available for public use and the educational value of the page? Thanks, Dave Dornsby (talk) 19:58, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

Photo Qustion

It happened again!

He removed the films from List of RealD films again! I undid his edit as soon as I noticed. He needs to be dealt with before he does it again. --Ryanasaurus007 (talk) 20:27, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Get Scraped-Deadmau5.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Get Scraped-Deadmau5.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:33, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
