Hashire

This statue is entitled Hashire ("Running"). The the non-specific figure illustrates a Wikipedia-like progress.

Commons

Will you help me figure out what, if anything, to do to improve one Commons category? I've just transferred several images of misasagi which were only posted in the Japanese Wikipedia; and I added each to a pre-existing category, Commons:Category:Japanese imperial mausolea. At a minimum, I would have wanted to capitalize "Imperial," but I don't quite know how to go about it. My real preference would have been to convert the current category to a redirect, and to create a new category entitled "Misasagi;" but perhaps this is precisely the wrong step in the wrong direction -- rather like my over-use of the term tennō, which you discouraged many months ago?

The term misasagi seems unknown in English; although I'm familiar with it from Japanese, I don't think I've seen it in histories written in English. So I'd probably opt for the English equivalent. I might have capitalized "Imperial" since it refers specifically to the Japanese Imperial family (not to other emperors) but I would have formed the plural according to English ("mausoleums") rather than Latin patterns. That's not something to worry about, though, and especially on Commons (which is not for readers of encyclopedias but primarily a service to people who develop content for all the projects) I'd not advocate changing it. I also have a question about blank boxes in image galleries? See Bonin Islands, which includes images of select islands, but compare below -- the same images present a barren display? On my monitor, there are only blank boxes with captions:

Do you know why I can sometimes see images and sometimes I cannot?

When I try to browse through Commons:User:Fg2/gallery, I encounter a similar problem. Not all of the posted images are accessible. --Tenmei (talk) 17:18, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

The gallery above looks fine on my screen.

Some of the photos I uploaded to Commons have been deleted. I guess the links remain in the gallery. This might explain some occasions when you cannot see the images. There are also glitches that result in images, galleries, or even entire articles coming out blank. These usually don't last long. Some of these can be cured by clearing your browser's cache, while others are probably due to server overload or something else I don't fully understand. You might also try switching temporarily to a different browser to see if it gives better results. Fg2 (talk) 10:12, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Utah nonagenarian

I've just made highly controversial edits -- here + here. This is replicated in a slightly shortened form here. I discovered this when I initially created the article about Patrick Lennox Tierney in 2008; but I didn't know how to handle it. Today an anonymous editor jogged my memory by changing this nonagenarian' age from 93 to 97 here. Can you offer a constructive comment? suggestion? --Tenmei (talk) 23:21, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Opinion requested (as usual)

Hi, Fg2. It sure has been a while. I would like to have your opinion about something, if I may. After months spent on Muromachi period history, I am taking a vacation writing an article about Minamoto no Yoritomo's grave in Kamakura, a place you probably are familiar with. It occurred to me that there's more than the grave, there, and everything is historically so tied to everything else that, rather than have a separate article about the Hokkedō, Shirahata Jinja, the death of the Miura clan and so on I may as well put everything under one title, integrating it logically and chronologically as it should, then use plentiful redirects for eachh theme. Now the question: do you agree? Have you any alternative ideas? If you do, what title would you use? Tomb of Minamoto no Yoritomo (or is grave better)?) seems reductive.
