The article Ger Burke has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable author, only sources given are his own website and a blog that once mentioned his name, halfway through a list of twelve people who were to do signings at a bookstore in Galway. I can't find any significant coverage.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  Glenfarclas  (talk) 09:41, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Patrick Joyce

[edit]

I see that you added a redlink to Patrick W. Joyce (teacher) in the article [[[Micheál Ó Droigheaín]] but wonder if this is the same person as Patrick Weston Joyce for whom there is a redirect Patrick W. Joyce. Perhaps you would fix it if I am correct, otherwise just leave things as they are. I am watching this page for a while until you reply. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 23:16, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Patrick W. Joyce was a different person, murdered by the IRA during the War of Independence. I have yet to find any more substancial information on him. Fergananim (talk) 00:38, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

[edit]

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you.. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:50, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Cathríona Farrell requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ww2censor (talk) 14:40, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Jessica Burke, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.galwayindependent.com/profiles/profiles/jessica-burke-%11-showjumper/, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under allowance license, then you should do one of the following:

Since we do not yet have verification of permission by the processes set out above and sufficient time has passed since the placement of the notice, the article has been deleted for copyright concerns. This deletion is not necessarily permanent. If you have already sent a letter to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) and GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) (if you are not the copyright holder or have co-authored the material, release under CC-BY-SA-compatible license alone is sufficient), the article will be restored when that letter is received and processed by the Wikimedia Communications committee. Likewise, if you have not yet sent a letter, you still may (or resend it, if you believe your original may have been lost), and the article will be restored when that letter is received and processed.

As Wikipedia does not require proof of identity on account creation, it is essential that we receive external proof of authorization in order to ensure that we remain compliant with US Copyright law. It is also essential that we verify that copyright holders understand the extent of the release they are authorizing, in that our licenses permit modification and reuse in any forum, even commercial publication, as long as authorship credit is maintained and future copies are compatibly licensed.

Please note that once permission is verified, the material may be evaluated and altered to meet Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Although we appreciate donations, we cannot guarantee that material donated will be retained.

The article Séamus Mac Con Iomaire has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for references failed to find significant coverage in reliable sources to comply with notability requirements. This included web searches for news coverage, books, and journals, which can be seen from the following links:

Consequently, this article is about a subject that appears to lack sufficient notability.

DATE LINKING

[edit]

How many times for you have to be told NOT TO LINK DATES? 5 or 6 times in recent months but you are still at it. I'm trying to decide whether you are wilfully obstinate or particularly dim! Snappy (talk) 14:38, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Stratford Eyre, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://places.galwaylibrary.ie/history/chapter56.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.)

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Argetros/Argetrois

[edit]

Apparently it means 'Silverwood' and is in County Kilkenny.[1] I don't know if the Uí Duach gave their name to it or took their name from it. It definitely looks archaic or Continental. MacCotter p. 182 states they were a sept of the Corcu Loígde but does not give his source. Elsewhere, as in Bhreathnach, they are attached to the Uí Liatháin+Fidgenti, themselves independently associated with the Érainn/Dáirine although officially septs of the Eóganachta. Of course even the Eóganachta have borrowed so many prehistoric ancestors from the Érainn their own ethnicity is really unknowable.

Returning to topic, there also were the Uí Bairrche of Mag Argetrois.[2] Plain of Silverwood? Too weird? Was there another legendary source for this name besides Joyce's silver shields, or was the original meaning of Argetros forgotten, or applied to a neighboring plain for some reason? Who knows.

Truly impressive work in County Galway and with all those medieval Gaelic people! DinDraithou (talk) 20:35, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We can start an article on the Mairtine. They appear to have been one of the more important Érainn peoples, but their sept was either independent or their affiliation forgotten, and I have never seen a pedigree for them. O'Rahilly p. 97 says they were included in a late poem among the (Fir) Domnainn (= Laigin?) but on p. 144 gives the sources for their apparently belonging to the Érainn. MacNeill includes them among the Érainn in his charts and so does Pokorny I believe.
Of course they are notable for their former capital, Medón Mairtine, becoming the chief church of the Eóganachta, Emly.
Also this year I hope to do the Ciarraige Luachra, and the Corco Mruad. They are both difficult. DinDraithou (talk) 22:19, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mairtine! I forgot I had them redlinked in the top list on my page. Please add whatever you can! DinDraithou (talk) 16:03, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

years reigned and year of death - Cathal mac Ailell

Please double-check the reigns and years of death of Cathal mac Ailell and the other kings of Uí Maine. You have Amhalgaidh's year of death as 784, and his reign two years later, 786. You have Cathal mac Ailell reigning from 834 to 846, but a succession box saying he ruled from 794 to 816. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 10:01, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cerball

[edit]

Hello! Good to hear from you!

There is indeed a bit more can be added about our man Cerball. I only got a short way through adding stuff from Downham's "The career of Cearbhall of Osraige" before I got sidetracked with something-or-other. I got MacCotter's book, so I need to sort out the Osraige article with that. And then I read that the new edition of Ó Corráin's Ireland before the Normans might be a whole new book rather than just an update like the last printing of Byrne's Irish Kings, so that might be useful. There's a lot could be done with most of the kings from Diarmait mac Cerbaill to Diarmait na nGall, but I'm putting any writing work off until I've finished moving and running around. All the best!
