Image dos and don'ts

[edit]

Images make Wikipedia more informative, accessible, and professional.

In general, when working with images:
DO:
Review the image style guide and use policy.
Give context with captions and alt text.
Try to find at least one image for each article.
Find free images, or create and upload your own.
Clean up images: crop, color-correct, etc.
Use the best file format for each image.
Use objects for scale where helpful.
Place images in the section to which they are related
DON'T:
Don't upload non-free images.
Don't use images in place of tables or charts.
Don't use images or galleries excessively.
Don't add images that are not relevant.
Don't flip faces, text, or works of art.
Don't set fixed image sizes.
Don't sandwich text between two images.
Don't refer to images by their placement.
Don't place images too early or at the end of sections.

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Fenous. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Moxy- 14:58, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

August 2022

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Dr Greg. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to London have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.  Dr Greg  talk  20:31, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Istanbul. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. NebY (talk) 21:19, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Fenous! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Istanbul that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. It is especially deceptive to mark your persistent spamming of your own work as "minor", despite the implication that you regard your work as superficial. NebY (talk) 21:35, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
