Proposed Roman Alphabets for Urdu

[edit]

I have proposed a set of Roman Alphabets to write Urdu language in Roman script. We can have discussions and debates on the pro's and con's of the proposed alphabets right here.

Assalamalaikum. Thank you very much for the construction of the chart in the "Roman Urdu Alpahabet Table" section of the Roman Urdu page. It is very well done. Kitabparast and I have also been involved in this project. He is a well qualified expert on this subject and we have collaborated on several pages including Hindustani, Hindustani Grammar, Urdu, and now the Roman Urdu article. I requested him to review your table and also add the Devanagari script to it as well. I have placed a table of Roman Urdu examples on the page as well. Kitabparast will add the Devanagari script to this chart as well and change the order of this chart to Roman Urdu, Nasta'liq, Devanagari, English Translation, and then the Notes. I also placed a picture entitled 'The Urdū Nasta’liq alphabet, with names in the Devanāgarī and Roman Urdu alphabets' in the introduction. I thought it was a great image for the article. Thanks once again for your contribtion. It was a big asset to the Roman Urdu page. I look forward to working with you on this project and look forward to hearing from you soon. Khuda Hafiz. Jdas07 19:19, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Salaam! It seems like Zulfikkur has already added the Devanagari script to one of the tables I inserted under the examples section in the Roman Urdu article. I have also added a few things to the page do make it look more presentable. I am sure Kitabparast will add the Devanagari script the next time he makes an edit. He has not made an edit in a few days so I assume he is on vacation or something like that. Because he loves doing this and has helped me much before, I am sure he will do it. Maybe it would be a good idea for you to introduce yourself to him on his talk page and also tell him about our collaboration. I like your idea of "laying the foundation for the re-merging of Hindi & Urdu with common script." If you take a look at the Hindustani grammar article, you will see that it is a dual purpose article as it has the Nasta’liq and Devanagari scripts. This is very good. Once again I look forward to working with you. Khuda Hafiz. Jdas07 18:43, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Assalamualaikum. Most of the Devanagari script has been added to the article (except for the table). Recently, Kitabparast has been working on the page so I am sure he will complete this part soon. Perseo-Arabic and Devanagari transliterations have been added under the sample texts as well. Thanks and hope you return soon! Khuda Hafiz. Anupam

Roman Urdu, is that a standard or a product of imagination?

[edit]

I don't see standardization in the work, but I am keen to know whether there is a standard for Roman Urdu. I was born and bred in Pakistan and my mother tongue is Urdu. Of what depresses me the most is that the Nastaliq or the Persio-Arabic script has not reached a maturer level in the computing world and it seems we are destined to always retort to an alternative.

If what you are displaying in the table is not standard, I think we should all settle for a standard here, until this work remains a work of pure imagination. I loved the work you guys have done on the Roman Urdu page. I have even started e-mailing and documenting things in the Romand script as was used from the Kitab-e-Muqadas (The Bible). Being a Christian, I read that Zabur all the time and it was good to stare at the first ever works of Roman Urdu emerging from the Bible. If you need help, I'd be more than welcome to help. - Arun Reginald 04:18, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Image:FadlallahBaqirSadr.jpg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Appears to be a scan of a print publication, not your own original photograph

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on [[Talk:Image:FadlallahBaqirSadr.jpg|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

Good. Thank you for fixing the list. But it isn't completely alphabetical, you should review and fix it. Meanwhile, I hope you could help revert vandalism on the articles of Pakistani Shi'a politicians because many insist on removing references to Shi'a Islam in their articles. RE:

[edit]

I arranged the list by alphabetic order and it took some of my time. I removed those who didn't even consider themselves marjas. I'm working hard to remove anti-Shia POV in many articles and someone like you decides to waste my time and start an edit war. I certainly didn't appreciate how you sabotaged the picture of Sayyed Fadlallah and I consider it nothing less than provocation. The article doesn't belong to you, and I didn't spend my time fixing it to have an idiot revert my work back. Unless you prove that the people I removed from the list are marjas, my version of the article is staying and I hope you could step back and do something productive on this encyclopedia instead of wasting my time. LahoreKid (talk) 18:17, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

LahoreKid, to call another editor "idiot" is rude and must be avoided.
Let's discuss the order of the list on the talk page. Whether a person is marja or not should be decided based on reliable source. I'll try to see if I can find some. --Be happy!! (talk) 20:00, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your image uploads

[edit]

I have just deleted the majority of the images you have uploaded. Please do not take images from other websites and upload them as your own- Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Continuing to disrespect copyright may lead to you being blocked from editing, or even to you, Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation getting into legal trouble. J Milburn (talk) 14:50, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Claiming work from other websites (even if you believe it is in the public domain anyway, which I doubt it is) to be your own is just asking for trouble, and perfectly reasonable to delete as all images uploaded here must provide a source. Almost all of the images were of various Muslim legal figures, and were very obviously taken from other websites. Which ones do you claim to be your own? J Milburn (talk) 10:16, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I am in a rush now- I tried to copy from the log, and it didn't work. I'll work out how to show you the images I am referring to later tonight. J Milburn (talk) 15:53, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A site simply not having a copyright statement does not mean that the images are free- websites must explicitly release the images into the public domain or under a free license. However, no matter where these images were taken from, you and the other editors were deceptive, in that you claimed that you were the authors of the images. As such, I have little sympathy. If you are going to start being honest about where you got images from, and ensure that you are uploading images under the correct license, then you are welcome to re-upload the images. J Milburn (talk) 19:59, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, sorry, I realise the actions of others have no bearing. I do apologise if I have assumed bad faith here- I deleted the images you had uploaded after uncovering huge swathes of stolen images by other editors, so perhaps I didn't look into the issue in as much detail as I should have done, just assuming they were stolen too. Also, I apologise if I have been a little aggressive here, I'm aware you've remained calm even in face of my accusations- that is appreciated. Finally, I appreciate that copyright concerns may be extremely minor within the arenas that you are are editing, (in the same way that I know that 90% of heavy metal bands couldn't care less if there is one of their publicity photos on Wikipedia tagged as being public domain, for instance) but Wikipedia's image policies are there for a reason, and it is in our best interests to follow them. Thanks for seeing this through and, again, apologies if I have behaved inappropriately at any time. If I can be of any help in regards to image licensing, feel free to contact me. J Milburn (talk) 19:15, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, one last clarification- images cannot be assumed to be public domain until their owners specifically say so. Simply publishing images without copyright notices does not bring them into the public domain in the eyes of US law, which is what Wikipedia's definition of 'free' is (mostly) based upon. J Milburn (talk) 19:18, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:BayanModified.GIF

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BayanModified.GIF. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:39, 7 June 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? -Nard 20:39, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pakistani date formats

[edit]

Hello Syed,

I'm trying to update Calendar date. When Pakistanis write dates with numerals only, is it true that both the year first (2008-11-16) and day first (16-11-2008) formats are used? Does it make any difference if you're writing in Urdu, English, or Panjabi? Is the US month-first system ever used?

The issue is notability brother. The institution of the Ayatollah and Marja are rather new, 300 years old, but they've had profound influence on Shi'a Islam. At least 60% of Shi'a Muslims adhere to Usuli Twelver Shi'a Islam, hence do taqleed under an ayatollah. The concept of the the Five Martyrs is new, and not many Twelver Shi'a even know about it. In fact, I don't believe it's a concept as much as simply a book by a scholar. Even if all the groups respect these individuals, they don't have a concept of the the Five Martyrs, and like I said, it doesn't seem to have existed till recently and still isn't diffused among all Twelver Shi'a. I do respect you for not adding them back in there without stating your reasons first. I was even hesitant of the the Five Martyrs article should even exist. At most, if we do prove the Five Martyrs are notable, we should just link to the article itself, not each individual person. If we listed them, we may as well list all those who died at the Battle of Karbala. --Enzuru 00:27, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Deleting from the Marja List

[edit]

Salam Br. Syd Nedian, sorry for the hasty deletion. Inshaalla I'll try my best to modify diligently.

Bro, welcome to Wikipedia! I agree with you that Sayyed Moosa as-Sadr was not a marja, but deleting content from wikipedia in a hasty manner is not a good practice, especially there have been conflicts on hasty deletions from this list. If we follow this practice, almost everyone from this list will be deleted, so please have discussion on the article's discussion page before deleting content.

[edit]

Recently few sections of article have been removed. These sections were based on Martin Lings' work, reason cited was that Lings is not a historian and was just a writer.

But same article quotes Wafa Sultan who is a psychatriat.

The difference seems to be is that Lings quotation were in support of Muslim view while Wafa's are against.

I think a discussion is needed over this issue.
