Mediation

[edit]

Hi Fasten, would it be possible for you to have a look at the mediation of the Cuba page [1]. We haven't been able to get mediation yet and it's been tough work in there. --Zleitzen 17:21, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your mediator is Ellis2ca Sdedeo. I suggest you address vim. --Fasten 19:24, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The mediation thing

[edit]

You asigned to me something about brahmism but i'm sorry i didn't understood before when i said "yes" that i wanted to be a mediator. As i'm not a native english speaker, i can't help you guys like i would to. I don't think i can do that thing... and i didn't understand where i have to say that i don't want to do that, please help me. Thank You :) - Clouded 17:27, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

help

[edit]

More than half of the gangsta rap article has been deleted by a vandal. And I do not know how to revert his edits. The article has undergone several abuses from vandal, so some one needs to revert it back to its previous version as soon as possible before any more madness happens. The vandal also deleted all of the talk page --Chubdub 19:31, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to mediate

[edit]

Thanks for the invitation. Now, how do I get a case assigned? Pecher Talk 18:44, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Topalov Mediation

[edit]

Hi Fasten. I've been mediating Ronald Reagan and Francis Schuckardt. Reagan's been rough, but Schuckardt has been proceeding very nicely. I'm writing to ask about the case wherein I'm a disputant: Veselin Topalov. We were assigned a mediator, LishLash, who hasn't posted anything. His/her discussion page also seems to be unactivated or something. Could you possibly prod him/her or find us a new mediator? I realize there's a heavy load on the cabal at the moment, so I'm willing to be patient, but I just wanted to let you know. Danny Pi 09:51, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I gave LishLash the assignment a bit late and ve is apparently interested to get a different assignment. Please be patient. --Fasten 10:50, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will mediate UFO Topics

[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/2006-02-10_UFO_topics

Here is the link to Cool Cat's restriction from mediating. BTW according to Essjay [unless I don't understand what he said] freenode told him the channel name was inappropriate, and it is a non-negotiable issue. See quote:

"The channel #wikipedia-en-vandalism is considered by freenode to be an official Wikipedia channel for the use of the official Wikipedia vandalism group. No such group exists. Until such time as there is a Vandalism group on the English Wikipedia designated by the Wikimedia Foundation as the official English Wikipedia Vandalism group, that channel will remain unused. That is why it redirects to #wikipedia-en, the official channel for the English Wikipedia." --Essjay

Apparently primary channels (ones with a single # in front) can only be used by official organizations, and there is not an official Wikipedia anti-vandalism group.

Prodego talk 12:11, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why should Cool Cat's restriction apply to the Mediation Cabal? This is informal mediation and anybody is allowed to act as a mediator. That's not much different from helping editors to resolve a dispute by offering a third opinion. --Fasten 13:11, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Prohibited from mediating as per ArbCom hearing.

[edit]

wikipedia-en-vandalism:

I am prohibited from mediating as per ArbCom hearing.
Could you provide a reference to that ruling? I'm almost sure that ArbCom doesn't regulate informal mediation this way. Informal mediation already happens when you help two editors in a dispute to resolve their dispute. --Fasten 11:18, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Coolcat, Davenbelle and Stereotek.
As per that I cannot mediate even though I feel I am more than qualified to do so as all my failed attempts were a complete failiure beacuse of interference from Davenbelle and Stereotek.
--Cool CatTalk|@ 14:37, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I do think you can do informal mediation. The way I understand it the ArbCom ruling is about formal mediation. --Fasten 16:32, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your claim that your bot cannot use a different channel

[edit]

This claim is not very convincing. Did you write the bot in assembly language that relies on the channel name as a code fragment or what could be the reason? --Fasten 13:17, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The bot uses the channel name on irc.wikimedia.org to preform several functions.
  • If the channel name on wikimedia server is lets say #es.wikipedia or #es.wikinews, the bot would speak in spanish.
  • The bot will post events to #wikipedia-es-vandalism (for #es.wikipedia) and #wikinews-es-vandalism (for #es.wikinews).
  • All logs would be saved to a large number of files (several thousand for en) under varius filenames generated by using the channel name. The bots files for en.wikpedia en.wikinews are generated using the channels name.
  • Access list of several hundered people will also have to be 'moved'.
  • The entier process would take me weeks to months of extra work as the move will generate bugs as well as other things. I do not want to spend time for that which I can be using doing other things such as improving the bot, adding features, editing wikipedia... you know...
In order the bot to work in any other channel I would have to restructure the bots code for all channels the bot operates for (thats over 14 channels). I would also have to rename practicaly every file and folder. Alternatively I could include a special if case for en which would decrease efficency by 50% since there will be twice as many checks.
The problem I am facing with this issue is a product of bots efficency. The code can work on all wikis because of this feature.
--Cool CatTalk|@ 14:48, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Your efficiency analysis is hardly correct. The code efficiency is, however, irrelevant anyway as the bot will probably be IO bound. Your explanation why a repeating if test is necessary is also flawed as you can easily refactor the code to use the former channel name for all internal purposes but receive information from a different channel; this would require a single if test when connecting to the IRC channel or a second array (assuming you have channel names in an array) that uses the same indices but contains different names (the actual vs. the internal channel name). --Fasten 16:30, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Excuse me, let me get this straight. You are teaching me programing for a code you havent even seen?
Tell me this, why are you involved with this? You already have a predetermined view, why even ask me about details...
--Cool CatTalk|@ 09:14, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My statements are trivial and universally valid in nature. I offered the unlikely hypothesis about assembly language as a conceivable exception. --Fasten 11:39, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WRT: HPS Page Mediation Request

[edit]

There is a second external link on the page. It links to a site run by a student of the school which has no official purpose. The site's owner's handle on Wikipedia is Mjuboy. He keeps altering the title of the link from "Un-official Students' Page" to "The Students' Page". After a lot of edit wars with him under an anonymous account I let the link stay (I don't see why it should be there) under the title "Un-official Students' Page". If the links is to stay then so does the appropriate title. Look at the edit history of the page and you'll see. Rohit

You'll have to tell that to your mediator. You do not seem to have a mediator for your case yet. --Fasten 13:03, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Response

[edit]

1. If someone refers to me as she, it's an insult. I am a guy. Period.

2. The rules of my talk page are clearly laid out, I reply on my talk page.

3. They could possibly be merged, I'm not trying to spam anyone.

4. My reverts were not in violation of 3RR because there was no 4th revert.

5. The page had been recreated, and under speedy deletion should be deleted.

6. Personal attack: [2]

7. Reply on my talk page.

Ardenn 17:37, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're also only talking about WCityMike. There are two other users involved in the mediation. Gnetwerker (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) attacked me here last night. And of course there's the admin involved of which the case is named after. Reply on my talk page. Ardenn 20:06, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anti-Brahminism mediation

[edit]

Hi Fasten. You mentioned at Talk:Anti-Brahmanism#Mediation that the mediation cabal is needed for when there are actual disputes, and not for when a third opinion is needed. I'm certainly willing to go to 3PO or RFC if needed, but what exists certainly seems like a very significant dispute -- ISKapoor has repeatedly removed all references to causes or types of anti-Brahminism, and done unexplained reversions, deleting significant context (e.g. [3], [4]). I've been trying to cool things down, and make my case (and edits) in public; ISKapoor doesn't seem to have responded to my call for mediation. At least two other posters on the [talk page] seem to agree with my critiques of the article, and it's a shame to have it hijacked by someone making what appear to be casteist and/or Brahmin supremacist edits.

Should I go to 3PO or RFC, or stick with the Cabal? And what recourse does one have if the person who's edits one disputes isn't willing to work with a mediator or 3rd party opinion? Thanks for your advice. Anirvan 18:12, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did you ask vim if ve is willing to accept a mediator? --Fasten 18:16, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation Case: Veselin Topalov

[edit]
User_talk:LishLash#Mediation_Case:_Veselin_Topalov

I think I should decline this case, as it involves multiple users embroiled in the outcome of a previous unsuccessful attempt at mediation. I don't believe I have enough experience to adequately deal with the issues involved. --LishLash 20:59, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Old Skool Esperanzial note

[edit]

Since this isn't the result of an AC meeting, I have decided to go Old Skool. This note is to remind you that the elections are taking place now and will end at 23:50 UTC on 2006-04-29. Please vote here. Thanks. --Celestianpower háblame 20:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation assignments...

[edit]

I apologize... I realized the circular nature of my recent assignments after the two assigned mediators introduced themselves. It definitely seems that it would be ideal for mediator A to not be mediating the case of their own mediator! I will strive to do better in the future. -- Joebeone (Talk) 15:33, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

your invitation

[edit]

Hi, the invitation you gave me says that i'm invited to be a mediator in a *different* case. Is it just standard to ask people to mediate for someone else if they need mediation, or something? I'm just a little fuzzy about what i'm supposed to do with the inviation. Thanks! Fresheneesz 06:20, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Second opinion on mediation case

[edit]

Hello, I recently looked at the case Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-04-22 SkyTran/UniModal uncooperative admin and found it to be an argument that has gone through official channels and appears to be out of Mediation Cabal control. I'd just like your second opinion just in case there's something I'm missing here. Thanks Cowman109Talk 19:49, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Keep up the good work!

[edit]

Just felt like I'd send you a smile for your fantastic work with juggling mediation cases! (Also a test run of my smile template. If you have any suggestions, feel free to point them out! Cowman109Talk 16:50, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You could announce the smile template somewhere at Esperanza. It looks like an Esperanza kind of thing. Actually I thought the assignment of mediation cases to submitters would become a self-powered process. It is an experiment and if it doesn't work without me it's a failed experiment. --Fasten 18:55, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

[edit]
The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

A short Esperanzial update

[edit]

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
