User talk:Farflungwaffle
Welcome
[edit]Hello, Farflungwaffle, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of your edits have not conformed to Wikipedia's verifiability policy, and have been reverted. Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or other forms of media. Always remember to provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles.
There is a page about the verifiability policy that explains the policy in greater detail, and another that offers tips on the proper ways of citing sources. If you are stuck and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}}
on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

- How to write a great article

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Triwbe (talk) 07:36, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Your recent edits
[edit]Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 07:39, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
You have made your point. Continuing to post to User:Triwbe's talk page could be seen as harassment. Please don't continue to post the same message to that user's talk page. By the way, unless you say which edit you want restored, its not possible for anyone to do anything to help you. Thanks, Gwernol 07:42, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Please consider this your final warning. If you continue to harass User:Triwbe, I will block you from editing. I found the nonsense you posted on the Miles Jupp article. We don't tolerate this sort of childish vandalism on Wikipedia. Please find a different venue for your "humor". Thanks, Gwernol 07:48, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- If its true then you should easily be able to provide reliable sources for it. Otherwise it cannot be included in a Wikipedia article. Its that simple. Gwernol 07:56, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Please stop
[edit]Please leave User:Triwbe alone. This means do not post on his/her talk page again. Your continued harassment of this user is not acceptable. If you continue, you will be blocked from editing. If you can provide independent, published sources for your claims, you can add them back to the Miles Jupp article. Thanks, Gwernol 08:52, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits, such as the one you made to Miles Jupp.
Any further vandalism will result in you being blocked from editing Wikipedia. Gwernol 09:38, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
If you are going to stalk article I'm involved with...
[edit]At least try to get your spelling right. Its cite not site. Gwernol 09:53, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- You do know how to contact me. You've posted on my talk page before. I don't believe you have forgotten how to do that in the last few days. You are right that the 16 mm scale model trains article could do with more citations. Fortunately there are lots of sources available, so it will be easy to do. Oh yes, and please sign your additions to talk pages. Thanks, Gwernol 10:09, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
References added
[edit]I added a couple of references. See, its easy to do, when you are adding real information to articles, rather than stuff you made up. Gwernol 10:20, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Please read WP:V which is our policy on verifiability. It answers all your questions on sources. You should sign your additions to talk pages so that others know who left them - they are not always automatically signed for you. Given the very high quality of your contributions, I would have thought you would have wanted everyone to know who left them. Gwernol 10:29, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- As the verifiability policy clearly states: "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth". There's your line, right there. If its been published in an independent, published source, it can be included in a Wikipedia article. Otherwise it cannot. If you can cite such sources for your additions about Jupp, you can include them in the article. Gwernol 10:43, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- We define what we mean by "independent, published sources]] in Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Gwernol 11:03, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Of course all definitions can be, and are, disputed. Wikipedia is not a fixed thing, but an ongoing evolution. The rules are refined and improved s we learn more. Perhaps it will reach a point of stability one day, but we haven't reached that point yet. But in practice there are very clear rules about what is, and is not, a reliable source, and in the vast majority of cases there is no dispute. Yes, there are many articles that are poorly or completely unsourced. That doesn't give anyone an excuse to add to the problem. Gwernol 11:16, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
