Beta + decay
Hi, I'm contacting you because you're the last author of the picture:
And your bio indicates that you know a thing or two about particle physics. If I'm not mistaken, the picture represents a beta+ decay and not an electron capture (and it is used as such in Beta decay). So both the title and the description of the file would need to be modified.
Also the Feynman diagrams that I can find don't have an arrow on the W boson. If have no idea which one is appropriate Yitscar (talk) 15:17, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hi there! So... It's a bit complicated. :-)
- In general you can have a process like p -> n + e+ + nu_e, or p + e- -> n + nu_e. And these are sort of the same thing if you squint at them.
- The first of those I would call "beta decay" and the second is often called "electron capture" or "inverse beta decay".
- In general I would think of this as electron capture:
- So yes I think a rename is reasonable.
- As for the arrow on the W, the actual answer is I'm not sure. The arrow generally represents a charge flow. The arrow is not required on a Photon or Z because they are uncharged, but Ws are charged, so the arrow seems appropriate. --Falcorian (talk) 21:18, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
- Looking a little more into, looks like most professionals don't draw arrows on Ws. That would be fine to "fix" too. --Falcorian (talk) 21:34, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
