License tagging for Image:Keith Dowding.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Keith Dowding.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Image tagging for Image:Akbar Ali Khan.GIF

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Akbar Ali Khan.GIF. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Thank you for uploading Image:Poet Jibanananda Das.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 08:24, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Amiya Chakrabarty

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Amiya Chakrabarty requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Ekranoplan 21:23, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Amiya Chakraborty.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Amiya Chakraborty.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:43, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate images uploaded

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Guy Verhofstadt.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Guy Verhofstadt.jpg.jpg. The copy called Image:Guy Verhofstadt.jpg.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Hello Mr. Chowdhury, welcome to Wikipedia. I see that you are interested in Bangladesh related topics. So am I. I see you contributed significantly to the Bhasani article. Thanks for that. Please note to maintain the quality standard of wikipedia all additions to the article should be cited. So, if possible please provide the references for your additions. Also please spend some time to understand the image copyright principles of wikipedia. Your talk page seems to be flooded with a lot of image related issues. I personally have changed the copyright description of the Bhasani image that you added. Let's work together on the Bhasani article to turn it into a complete and good article. License tagging for Image:Cover Ka.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cover Ka.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 00:05, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Iffat Ara, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.thedailystar.net/starinsight/2007/02/01/she.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. fake Stamp

[edit]

The stamp from here is a PhotoStamp, which ANYONE in the USA can make with their OWN photos. Jitu Osmani is making a false claim that the US Post office has released this stamp. This is a stamp sold at double the face value ($16.95 instead of $8.20 for 20 stamps of 41 cent value). Here are some other photostamps. You can tryout creating a stamp with your own photo here.

This guy somehow fooled the Bangladeshi newspapers, but again, the US Govt has released NO stamps on this occasion. Here are the list of official 2008 US stamps]. --Ragib (talk) 22:49, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:United States of Europe.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:United States of Europe.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 02:47, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The photo is from the public domain. And nothing more than a book cover. There is no point in deleting a book cover. Other versions may be easily produced and used.

Actually, book covers are NOT in the public domain, unless specified clearly. If you find an image in the Internet, it does not become public domain automatically. Book covers are copyrighted, and you can only use those under very strict fair-use conditions. --Ragib (talk) 07:40, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Clinton Seely 2006.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Clinton Seely 2006.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 17:58, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have requested Professor Clinton B. Seely for a photograph and he will send one as soon as he can. The photo I have uploaded is from a public domain and there is no indicaiton that it is copy-righted. There is no indication that copying and using this photo for Wikipedia constitutes violaiton of any copyright. Hence the use is fair.

Mr. Chowdhury, I am afraid you are confusing Public domain with content found in the Internet. The photo referenced above is from http://salc.uchicago.edu/seelypic.jpg , then how do you claim to be in public domain? In the context of copyrights, photos are in the public domain when their copyrights expire. Unless it is clearly stated that the author of the photo has released it in public domain, you cannot claim it to be so.
So, the bottom line is, if you find a photo in the Internet, you can't use it in Wikipedia, UNLESS you have permission from the author of the photo to use it in Wikipedia under GFDL or Creative Commons (attribution, ShareAlike) licenses, or the image is in public domain due to expiration of copyright.
In future, please do not upload images copied from a website. For any confusion, you can send a message to me. Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 09:46, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. But to be honest I don't know how to send a message.-Faizul Latif Chowdhury

Duplicate articles

[edit]

When someone or something is known by two different names, as is the case with Joseph A. Winter and Joe Winter, we do not create duplicate articles. Instead, we use a redirect. That way, when someone wants to add some content to an article, they do not have to do so in two different places. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 15:33, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. But how can I be sure that Joseph A. Winter is Joe Winter? I have not found any evidence from any source to that. I went to Mr. Winter's house in Calcutta but found that he had left a few weeks ago. Three of his books that I have in my possession does not indicate that Joe Winter is an informal contraction. Grateful if your kindly explain how to use redirect. Thank you.- Faizul Latif Chowdhury
I do not understand your first question. In your own version of the Joseph A. Winter article, you used the name "Joe Winter". Not to mention essentially identical text in both articles. So you clearly think that Joe Winter and Joseph A. Winter are the same person - otherwise, why write two essentially identical articles?
Please also note that any discussions you might personally have with someone fall into the category of original research, which is not acceptable at Wikipedia. (You can certainly inform yourself any way you want, but don't use your own personal experience or information you personally obtained, in Wikipedia articles.)
As far as informing you on how to use redirects, please click on that link or this one: Help:Redirect. If something on one of those pages is unclear, I suggest asking a question at the help desk; that way, someone there can not only answer your question but also modify a reference page if necessary. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 15:47, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Seems, unfortunately there is a basic misunderstanding of the issue. I never wrote an artile on Joseph A. Winter because I don't know him at all. I wrote an article on Joe Winter. And did not use re-direction. And I also did not include in that article my personal knowledge. Thanks. - Faizul Latif Chowdhury
There is indeed some misunderstanding. According to Wikipedia's software, your useraccount made this edit, creating the Joseph A. Winter article at 22:26, 8 January 2008, with the edit summary "This is a new artcile". Then, 14 minutes later, the same useraccount made this edit, creating the Joe Winter article, with the edit summary "This is a new article on British poet and translator Joe Winter". The contents of the two edits are virtually the same (perhaps exactly - I've not checked).
Regarding I also did not include in that article my personal knowledge, I'm glad to hear that. As I noted, doing so would have been a problem.-- John Broughton (♫♫) 21:27, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cover-first-book.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.

rollback on Taslima Nasrin

[edit]

I have used rollback to revert the changes you made to the article. Some of the material you added is useful, but all of it is entirely unrefenced, much is not encyclopedic in tone, and, worse, your first edit, in which you changed "Nasrin" to "Taslima" throughout the entire article makes it impossible for me to simply undo that change without resorting to a wholesale reversal. The last name is what we use in encyclopedic articles, even if many of the publications cited from Bangladesh and India use her first name. Her books are listed alphabetically by last name, and that is how she should be referred to here. I will go through the other edits you made and take whatever is encyclopedic, but I will have to add "fact tags" since you never provide any references. Remarks on "rickety style" or whatever it was will have to be removed, unless you can provide reliable sources that make that claim. I appreciate your interest in improving the article, but I have spent an enormous amount of time on it already, and the way in which you added informartion and the order in which you did that would require me to spend an hour or more going through, and that's not right. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 17:12, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    • I can wait until you have finished. 'Taslima' would be more in line with the custom, rather than 'Nasreen'. No one in India or Bangladesh calls her Nasreen, rest assured. I'll add references after the texts have been placed in order. You can trust I have more first hand knowledge than anyone. I have read and reviewed all her books. I interviewed her in 2006 in Calcuta. But if you'll insist I can certainly wait to add facts with sources. I see that you are relying on info that bare exclusively available on the internet. No offense please. 'Rickety' is from a book review by Professor Dyson of Oxford. Faizul Latif Chowdhury (talk) 17:18, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • You've said that before that I rely on information from the internet--surely you also notice that almost everything I have done to the article is scrupulously referenced from reliable sources. What people in Bangladesh call her doesn't really matter here. If such terms are from book reviews, why not cite those right away, the moment you add the information? I urge you to stick to the format as we have it right now, following the guidelines of the MOS. That replacement of the name, for instance, that's quite disruptive, and unverified information, especially since this concerns a living person, must be removed immediately, per WP:BLP. I appreciate your first-hand knowledge, but this encyclopedia has as its central tenet the matter of verifiability. Incidentally, you probably should be careful citing your own reviews. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 17:30, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
        • There is no point in arguing with you. I shall wait. I take your note of caution. FYI, I have not used a bit from my own reviews. Also be informed that I have added no info that is not verifiable. Your approach has greatly REDUCED informational value. I shall allow you to work because this is not a place to fight. During the last two years I have expanded the article with more and more data/info and kept it updated to the day. Do not ask for citation unnecessarily for something ignoring the same for other instances. Anyway, thank you for your interest in putting a good structure for the article. Good work man, carry on. Faizul Latif Chowdhury (talk) 17:35, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
          • Thank you. Let me remind you though that encyclopedic information should be verifiable by having sources provided for each fact and statement. Information shouldn't just be theoretically verifiable. And I didn't mean to suggest that you couldn't use your own reviews, which I'd love to see, by the way. Drmies (talk) 19:11, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
          • I also see that in this edit you removed a lot of sourced information, and four references from reliable sources. Drmies (talk) 20:39, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
          • If you look carefully at the edit I referred to above, you'll see other problems. For instance, you added two nuggets of information, that she worked in "the family planning clinic of Mymenisingh Medical College hospital," and that she "was working in Mitford Hospital as an anaestheologist." Both of these are inserted into the original sentence, and thus claim that they find their source in the Britannica article, which is referenced, in both cases, immediately after your addition. But this information is of course not to be found in that article. The issue of its relevance aside, such information needs a source and must not be misattributed to another source. Drmies (talk) 20:45, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
            • Although largely truncated now, in terms of of information provided, the article on Taslima is taking a better shape. Ref. two of your comments above. First, there was no intention to remove any well-sourced info which is acceptable. I stopped in the midst of working just to allow you space. I meant to resume after you would be finishing. The Britannica mishap is a matter of inadvertance, a consequence of messy text, interspersed with references. I am not an IT expert, I add info and leave the text to be properly fitted and placed by comptenet editors like you. Faizul Latif Chowdhury (talk) 07:54, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Faizul Latif Chowdhury! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 5 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

File source problem with File:Rabindranath-by-Rothenstein.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Rabindranath-by-Rothenstein.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:12, 1 May 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:12, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Joe Winter.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Joe Winter.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:10, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Manik Bandopadhay.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Manik Bandopadhay.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (tc) 21:15, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Daily Sun 24 Oct 2010.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Kelly hi! 03:01, 29 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Maulana Bhasani.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Information icon Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, as you did with Bangla Desh – A Voice of a New Nation. If the template is removed, it will automatically be restored by a bot, so removing it accomplishes nothing but disruption of the consensus seeking process. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the deletion discussion instead. You may find the page Help:My article got nominated for deletion! useful. I have no article. I don't own any article. I contribute to Wikipedia as much as I can. There is no deletion discussion. Before attaching the template there should be discussion with acceptable justification. Then I can contest. Hope my argument makes sense.
