ASUDEM

asudem is a word used and coined by daryush shokof in 1990 for a sculpture at his first Maximalist exhibition at the Gallery Schulze in Cologne, Germany. he later wrote the script of asudem, and finally made the movie with the same title in 2007 in Berlin, Germany. the film is a remarkable surreal cult classic, starring Yangzom Brauen arguably doing her best work in cinema up to this date.

STORY; a woman lives alone with her dog in the middle of a war (we would never see) inside the woods (resmbling all other films by shokof as his films are always somewhere on this planet), and things atart to go wrong with the dog being the first victim of this very long day and longer night. the monstrosity of the events escalate gradually to a point that Satan himself finally appears in person to wrap up the day,s finale. Satan drags her out to the woods for the kill.She tries to give him hallucinative mushrooms on their way in the woods and in the hope that Satan would start having Heavenly dreams and die from it,..... the film is shot completely in black and white and has Used only one main source of light throughout the film. this light source is given into Yangzom Brauen,s hand thoroughout the picture, and has been used most revolutionary and effectively in almost a painting manner and harmoniously between Shokof and Yangzom Brauen. the results are visually stunning. the film won the best horror film award at the International film and video festival in Los Angeles in 2007.
