Kiev/Kyiv

[edit]

Hi! I see that you've been changing "Kiev" to "Kyiv" in several articles. I can see why you might think that is a good move, but this has been discussed in the past and the WP:consensus is that in this project we will stick to the most common English-language spelling, Kiev. You can read about this and other conventions for the naming of places in Ukraine on this page. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:58, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Justlettersandnumbers: the page Kiev was moved to Kyiv, which has been established as the common name of the place in English — Exlevan (talk) 10:04, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Exlevan. Though the page at WP:KYIV appears to support the spelling 'Kyiv' for post-1995 usage of the name, if you intend to make the spelling change Kiev->Kyiv at multiple articles it is unwise to mark all these edits as WP:MINOR. "A minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute". Since you already reported this at AN3 you are surely aware that it has been the subject of a dispute. EdJohnston (talk) 01:17, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, I see now that those changes are not minor in the eyes of some editors, so I won't be marking them as such from now on. -- Exlevan (talk) 09:36, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
