Speedy deletion nomination of Event Photographer Society
[edit]A tag has been placed on Event Photographer Society, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. From the article talk page:
This is a new page created to inform about a new non-profit making organisation that has only been setup to provide balance it what is becoming an ever more populated area of the photographic market. There will be more information added in due course. This should be seen as being of a very similar vein to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society_of_Sport_&_Event_Photographers except that it is for UK event Photographers as opposed to American Event Photographers. EventPS (talk) 11:46, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Further investigation of the Wikipedia site shows that there are entries such as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SWPP which is a wholly commercial entity which has the needs of its founders and owners first and is one of the reasons driving the foundation of a non-commercial site such as EPS. We are trying to to help as opposed to turn a profit. EventPS (talk) 15:13, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
advice
[edit]We are an encyclopedia , which gives information about groups and other things that are already notable, not that hope to become so. Giving information about a "new non-profit making organisation that has only been setup to provide balance it what is becoming an ever more populated area of the photographic market. " is exactly what we do not do--this is the role of advertising and public relations. When you have references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases--then there can be an article. Not now. As for the pages you mention, we will take a look at them. As reviewing administrator , I had to delete the article for the present. For further advice, see Please see our FAQ about businesses, & other organisations. DGG (talk) 16:02, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?
Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.
- Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?
Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.
- What can I do now?
You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:
- Add the text
{{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
on your user talk page. - Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
- Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
