Thinking of doing something potentially monumentally stupid.

Hi, I was hoping you could provide some advice on something that I’m toying with. Quite a while ago I was looking at the Babylon 5 article and noticed it was rather long while, a little surprisingly, at the same time didn’t really include any information on various production elements such as the costume, music, special effects etc. But did include a fascinating piece on what accents the actors used. ; ) I also noticed that at one point it was proposed as a possible featured article!? I spend quite a bit of time on the computer due to work, but there’s also periods when I’m sitting playing Tetris waiting for print jobs to finish. So a while back I started looking at essentially rewriting the article from the bottom up.

I’m no editor and can’t write for toffee (obviously), I also don’t have access to any of the print publications which could provide useful information. Could you take a look at the Costume and Music sections that I’ve typed up in this sandbox. There rough (and incomplete) but should give an idea of the direction I’m taking

Ignore everything else. ; ) the other content is more for giving me an idea of formatting and a place to hold some rough notes, bits of information and ideas. Basically, am I going off on a tangent, and the content is not suitable for a wiki article. If so that’s fine, and I’ll start playing Solitaire as I’m getting sick of Tetris. If the general idea is sound then I have no problems in spending a bit more time attempting to put more content together, with the hope that more experienced editors will then duly rip it apart in order to bring it up to Wikipedia standards, and perhaps add further information, before even considering the remote possibility of replacing the existing article. Basically I’m not so arrogant as to attempt this alone. ; )

BTW. I realise interest in the B5 article is low, for various reasons. I’ve approached yourself (and two others) as I noticed you’ve edited the thing a number of times over the last year or so, and appear to know what the hell your doing. ; ) But if I’m barking up the wrong barge poll, please let me know. If you know of anyone else who may be interested in passing an eye over what is being put together, or who may have access to printed reference material, that would be most appreciated as well. Two articles for same building, one with wrong info...

Eureka, see my post on the talk page for the Huntington Bank Building. It contains misinformation, and as well is a stub compared to the larger 200 Public Square article, which as we know is the same building. I can't move the one (200 Public Square) to the correct title with its new name until the other one is deleted. Thanks Ryecatcher773 (talk) 13:50, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

• The articles refer to two different buildings. They're both tagged with their coords, so you can easily see the difference. 200 Public Square shouldn't be moved, because while Huntington moved its offices into the building and bought signage rights, they didn't purchase the building's naming rights (see this article in Crain's). - Eureka Lott 16:26, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear EurekaLott,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

• Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
• Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
• All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
• All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
• The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. How does one go about freeing up a name for an article that was previously used?

Northeast Ohio was, at some point, moved or merged with Greater Cleveland, and given that it may be necessary to establish the distinction between the two with separate Wikipedia articles, I was wondering how we can free-up the name 'Northeast Ohio' from it's current status as a re-direct so that it can become available for use as an article name again. I'm trying to edit the KING (band) page and get it to pop up as the first thing you see in Wikipedia when you type in king band without caps lock. Any idea how to do that? Thing is KING (band) is about to release a rap pop album and it's going to be a pretty big thing here in the UK so I'm trying to put as much stuff together as I possibly can and want to make it really easy to fans to find them. Thank you for the warning. I rolled back everything (except a few redirect creations) and left a uw-delete4 warning for blanking pages such as Category:Lists of tallest structures, but since he's stopped editing for some hours, I don't expect there to be cause for an immediate block; we'll have to wait for tomorrow for him to get his third block in two months. What's more, he's also disrupting other languages; I had to leave a note for Bosnian admins, and I've found confusing bits such as this in the Spanish Wikipedia. I've gotten to the point with him that I believe an indefinite block to be necessary, so I've started a section to that effect at WP:ANI. Nyttend (talk) 01:55, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Category:Cleveland Forest Citys (NABBP) players

Hi, I am writing promptly just in case this is useful and you are passing through all of the NABBP player categories.

First, I have revised the category preface in many small ways. Take it as a dozen separate suggestions. This is how I would say it today.

Second, when I worked on categories a few years ago, I commonly made some report on Category talk pages. See Category talk: Cleveland Forest Citys (NABBP) players. This may or may not be useful but Category talk is so uncommon, I have learned since then, that I feel compelled to notify you.

For what it's worth, I believe the FCC (Cleveland Forest Citys) is the only NABBP club that I retained on my watchlist.

Depend and Depend undergarment

Wow, don't know what's happening here but as I was editing June Allyson, suddenly the wikilink to Depend undergarments disappeared and subsequently, so did my edit. I tried to "anchor" the statement with a relevant and verifiable reference source that the actress was the first celebrity to undertake promotion for an undergarment ... and then came the reverts. Can you check it now to see that things work out. At present, we now have two articles that are exactly the same: Depend and Depend undergarment. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 22:40, 12 May 2012 (UTC).

It looks like we have two problems. User:Alan Liefting apparently thinks that the Depend article shouldn't exist, and has twice redirected the page to other targets, and now we have a second version of the article that you just created. As a cut and paste move, the article lacks its attribution history, and probably should be deleted. If you agree, you can tag it as {{db-self}} or {{db-same}}, and try editing the original article again. - Eureka Lott 22:51, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Genealogies in a copyrighted book are not telephone directory lists

You might wish to ask someone who will tell you the difference - if there is any originality of research or presentation, then the "telephone directory" exemption does not apply. All HSG needs to do is find other reliable sources making the exact same statements as to genealogy, but until then, the use of extensive copyrighted material from a book is a pretty clear copyright violation. List of famous Spanish Legionnaries

Hello! I see that you declined speedy deletion on the above article to preserve the article's history. Is there any way to delete this redirect page, which is not only an unlikely search term but is misspelled? Hi. I tagged the page with {{r from misspelling}}, which adds it to Category:Unprintworthy redirects and prevents it from appearing in the search box. There was an article in place there for about seven months, so we should probably retain the redirect. What if we moved this article to List of famous Spanish Legionnaires, with or without a redirect? Would that retain the article history? I believe I misread the article history. I think I see what happened now. The article was created at List of Spanish Legionnaires and remained there for months. A few days ago, it was moved to Wikipedia:Spanish Legion and subsequently to List of famous Spanish Legionnaries. Because the redirects at the misspelling and in the Wikipedia namespace are a recent creations, I think they should be safe to delete. Brecksville-Northfield High Level Bridge

Thanks for improving on my edits on Brecksville-Northfield High Level Bridge, but I wanted to mention that I chose the bare citation code for the PD special section over the "cite news" template in order to de-emphasize the date of the page because I wanted to draw attention to the various articles listed there, which of course have different dates, rather than to the page itself. Therefore I made the form of the link look more like a general external link than a news one. Not cool per MOS? Mapsax (talk) 13:53, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

I don't think it's a big deal either way, however, with the exception of the recent article at the top of the page, every other linked article was posted in early May. Nah, it appears that any article with that tag will appear on the special section page anyway.

There's no mess. Only you oppose this name and page move. Sources confirm that the title will be "Into Darkness". Why go through all this drama? If all you are waiting for is Paramount to come out and say so, hold your breath, its just a matter of time. Indiana–Kentucky rivalry

I noticed that you moved this article. I agree that we don't need two copies, but it was initially moved by a rogue user without a registered name. Because the rivalry encompasses more than just basketball, it shouldn't be specific to basketball. It's the other basketball page that needs to be moved, not this one. The article was moved by User:Nuggets56 on September 16. We should have only one copy of the article, and that's the one that has its full article history attached. Because there's clearly disagreement about the page title, I moved it back and started a requested move discussion. This article definitely meets the guide lines for speedy deletion. It's an uninformative stub of a non notable song with no citations! I know you probably love Yes, but so do I. Help request

Concerning your intervention on the Cebiche article. The references to the RAE Dictionary at the article are all dead ends. I tried to correct them without any success. I kindly request you to correct all the three references (they are all in the Dictionary; cebiche as the main term, ceviche as an alternative spelling and seviche as an alternative use -or variety- in some countries) to the Spanish word in the article; thus we will be able to see -other than having the article more tidy- what the primary universal source for Spanish lexicon says exactly on these. Florence Foster Jenkins

Hey, EurekaLott.

In what sense could my edit to Florence Foster Jenkins be considered a "botched edit attempt"? It was fully explained in the edit summary, and was a completely reasonable and useful improvement.

If you're gonna undo completely reasonable and useful improvements, you're gonna have to come up with a rationale that (a) trumps reasonableness and usefulness, and (b) is itself fully explained. Your "contribution" ticked neither of those boxes; it just cast a slur on an excellent edit. One can only wonder at the agenda of someone who does that. A larger problem?

Thank goodness someone else noticed what was going on with User:Rosscoolguy's edits at that article. EurekaLott, I see you have the mop, so I hope you'll forgive me for leaving a quick note here instead of jumping through the hoops at ANI tonight. I think there may be a competence issue with User:Rosscoolguy. He does have a userbox that suggests he's probably a minor, not that that means anything in itself re competence. Anyway, I am concerned about his reversion of my reversion (which I took the trouble to explain both on the article's talk page and his talk page) for nonsensical reasons and with a bogus edit summary and also about his failure to communicate (including blanking my two perfectly civil messages from his talk page). A quick glance through his contributions shows he's been slapping maintenance on articles all over the place—almost randomly, as far as I can tell—and changing the date on tags other editors have placed. I foresee a block if this continues, but is there any chance you could try to have a quiet word with him in the meantime? I did see one or two nominally constructive edits he'd made, so he may be redeemable. Rivertorch (talk) 05:44, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
