User talk:Essex PR
Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Essex PR, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.
Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! DlohCierekim 14:25, 24 April 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Essex PR. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Essex PR. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Essex PR|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. DlohCierekim 14:25, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
- Adding
{{unblock-un|your new username here}}
below. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page. - At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
- Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
- Adding
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
below this notice, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. DlohCierekim 14:26, 24 April 2019 (UTC)Hello Dlohcierekim,
Just because the username mentions PR does not reflect that my contribution is paid. The conflict of interest arises because we are Communications team at the University of Essex, UK, and the subject in the contribution is affiliated to our university. If you could help us to improve the contirbution then that would be amazing. As for the reason to unblock my account is as follows.
Essex PR (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
My contribution is not because of payment made or in exchange of any paid services. Our contirbution is to reflect the ongoing work at the University of Essex, Uk, which is gaining a lot of media exposure.
Decline reason:
You forgot to pick a new username. Note also that I doubt your claim you receive no salary for your employment at the University of Essex. Even if true, it's not relevant. You have a clear conflict of interest. If your only goal is to write about the University of Essex, you won't be unblocked. If you wish to write about other subject areas, areas for which you do not have a conflict of interest, please follow the instructions above. Yamla (talk) 15:40, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

@331dot and Dlohcierekim: Hello Dlohcierekim & 331dot,
My initial attempt of another account was not to abuse Wikipedia nor an attempt to sock-puppetry. That is a misunderstanding from my part. I am new to Wikipedia and was not aware of how to use the platform completely before starting out. The initial block on my account mentioned, "You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username". In the block message when I clicked on the link for "create the account yourself", which is hyperlinked, it prompted me to create another account and I went ahead and asked my colleague to create one so that I do not attempt a sock-puppetry abuse. I was not aware at first that I have to request for a new username by using a tag ({{unblock-un|your new username here}}) instead of creating one (I realised that later). I hope this clears the confusion of having two accounts from the same department and once again would like to apologise if it seems otherwise since it is just my fault of not knowing of how to use the platform properly. Anyhow, since our original goal was to create pages related to our university department and since that is also not allowed on Wikipedia, so we would like to retract our accounts from the platform. Thank you for your cooperation in this regard.
With regards, Essex PR (talk) 09:51, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- I don't think you meant to make an unblock request, so I've blocked that formatting. There is no means to delete accounts; simply abandon your account. 331dot (talk) 12:27, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
@331dot: Hello 331dot,
Ok. Thank you for the update. I will stop using the account. And hope our previous contributions on the platform won't be penalized because of our actions due to our lack of knowledge on the platform.
