Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, EricaS97. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Bonnie Hammer, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Tarl N. (discuss) 03:36, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- More specifically, your changes read like an advertising pamphlet out of a publicity mill. I don't think they will stand. Tarl N. (discuss) 03:36, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- This question verges on WP:OUTING, but since this is purely from your own actions on Wikipedia, I think it can be asked: Are you Mary Rozzi from NBC Universal? If not, the photo you added of Bonnie Hammer was added under false pretenses (you claimed "own work"). Tarl N. (discuss) 03:51, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Until this is cleared up, I reverted your most recent change. I may have to revert your earlier change if it turns out the image you contributed is not allowed to be used on Wikipedia. Tarl N. (discuss) 17:23, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi Tarl. I apologize for my delay as I am very new to the Wikipedia platform. It appears I should instead be looking for the "request edit" form in regards to a conflict of interest. Could you please help me with this process to get this page updated? Despite the bad copy, it does still need to be updated. Thank you! EricaS97 (talk)
- First thing you need to do is declare conflict of interest. On your user and talk page, you need to place the {{UserboxCOI}} template, announcing your conflict of interest on the Bonnie Hammer page. Then on the Bonnie Hammer talk page, you need to place the {{Connected contributor}} template, describing your relevant affiliations. Once you have done those, you can start a new section in the article talk page, describing what updates need to be made to the page. Those updates must be made by someone else (I'll do them), after discussion. In particular, we'll need independent reliable sources (read WP:RS) to cite for any changes made.
- If you're not sure how to set up the UserboxCOI and Connected contributor templates, reply here with information on who you work for, and why you're updating the article. If it's part of your job, then it's the {{Connected contributor (paid)}} template, which requires the name of the organization, and the name of the client (I would assume Ms. Hammer herself). Regards, Tarl N. (discuss) 03:45, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
- By the way, please also see wikimedia - there are problems with the photo you uploaded. Tarl N. (discuss) 03:47, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
Hi Tarl. I am not familiar with how to place the templates on my page so I will share the information with you. Bonnie Hammer is not a client, but I am a communications coordinator at NBCUniversal who was tasked with updating the executive page. Per your notes on the independent reliable sources, the changes which I made did use independent sources. The changes needed would be similar to those I proposed.
And, yes, I saw the note on the photo. To be honest I was told to upload the photo. I am working with NBCU's photo licensing team to determine next steps - this is why I told you previously I was looking for an answer and would get back to you once I had one. Appreciate your help. - O.K. - I've placed the {{Connected contributor}} template on your behalf on the Talk:Bonnie Hammer page, and the {{UserboxCOI}} template on your user page. What you need to do next:
- You need to edit the wikimedia deletion page, and add a section indicating you are aware of the the issue, and are working to obtain the proper licensing. Indent your changes by preceeding the line wiht a couple of colons ("::"). You also need to acknowledge the photo isn't "own work", which is how you submitted it - you didn't take the photo, you don't own it. Someone (not me) may put a deadline on that.
- You need to edit the Talk:Bonnie Hammer page and describe what you want to change. Create a new section by clicking on the "New section" tab near the top of the talk page. Don't provide text that you want inserted, describe the changes required and supply the references which support them.
- After that, I'll go through the list of requested changes and verify that reliable sources support them, and if the all the references look good, I'll make changes.
- Oh, one last thing. If you use a {{talkback}} template, you place it on my talk page, not yours. It's to tell me to look at your talk page. An alternative way of getting my attention is with adding a
{{ping|Tarl N.}}
in your text. That placed on any page will send me a notification. Regards, Tarl N. (discuss) 01:34, 9 April 2020 (UTC)- Thank you much for your help Tarl. I will get back to you on the Bonnie Hammer talk page with suggested edits. Just to make sure there are no issues when I go to upload, is the connected contributor versus paid contributor going to make a difference when I edit? I am reading up and looks like maybe mine should be flagged as paid. Anyways, will get back with those edits. EricaS97 (talk) 15:59, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
{{ping|Tarl N.}}
- What the {{Connected contributor}} templates mean is that you should not edit the article itself, only the talk page. In theory, I should back out your earlier edit adding the more recent picture of Ms. Hammer, but I'll leave that while you're getting the licensing dealt with. You might read Photographs of identifiable people for some pointers on what's needed. Good progress, by the way. Regards, Tarl N. (discuss) 17:45, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- Copy that, Tarl. Really appreciate your help! EricaS97 (talk) 22:05, 9 April 2020 (UTC) 19:41, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

Reverting to old photo
[edit]I noticed you putting back the old photo; it's a good edit, but strictly speaking you should have asked someone else to do it. No harm done, just keep it in mind. Regards, Tarl N. (discuss) 03:00, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
- Apologies -- didn't know the command in code to request. Won't be touching again! EricaS97 (talk) 04:16, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, also. Put a request to get the other headshot deleted on Wikimedia Commons -- not sure how to get that expedited but I was correct that it was mistakenly put up. Apperciate the help! @Tarl N.: EricaS97 (talk) 04:19, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
- Will do. Not sure how to expedite it either, but I'll ask around. Regards, Tarl N. (discuss) 20:05, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
