Please remember to:

  • Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes ~~~~ at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp.
  • Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.

Wikilinking

[edit]

Hi there. I see you've been creating links, within articles, to other articles; please take a look at guidelines about overlinking and duplicate links if you've not done so already. Cheers Fred Gandt · talk · contribs 17:40, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Changing men/women to males/females

[edit]

Hi, can you explain why you've been changing the words men/women to males/females across articles like Sex differences in human physiology, Sex differences in intelligence, and Sex differences in cognition? I cannot understand why these would be seen as an improvement. Indeed, males/females seem to me to be less specific, since they apply to other organisms besides humans, whereas across these articles we are only discussing human men and women. I'll stop reverting now but I ask that you explain please. Is there something in the Manual of Style that I've missed? Thanks, Generalrelative (talk) 21:02, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Male and female are biological terms, and since the articles are about biological differences in humans between sexes, female and male is more scientifically accurate. The terms “men” and “women” are tied to gender, which is not biological and is separate from sex. Also, it’s specified in the articles that they are about humans, not other life forms in which there are males and females. Epaulette shark fan (talk) 21:06, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. If nobody else objects I suppose it's fine. Generalrelative (talk) 21:13, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
