User talk:Enochlau/Archive 2007e
This page contains archived material written on my talk page during 2007.
Enochlau, you deleted the article on HullBreach. If I can gather necessary sources to show notoriety, will it be returned?
- Yes, see WP:WEB. enochlau (talk) 23:58, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- How about [[[1]]] and [[[2]]]? Geekrecon 13:36, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
I tried to add a page for the Green Corridor project, but I am new to Wikipedia. From the deletion long, it is indicated as a copyright violation. As the information was gathered from the Green Corridor's website, www.greencorridor.ca, I was unsure how to cite the entire page. It was my mistake to "save" the page, my ignorance led me to believe this was saving the page, but not publishing it.
If I can appropriately cite the website as a source, will I be able to resubmit the entry? Or, do the facilitator's of the project need to make the entry through their own account?
Thanks for your help
Janthonylanglois 16:21, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, you cannot copy and paste entire chunks of websites onto Wikipedia. You cannot get around this problem by citing it: citations are for small amounts of material copied for the purposes of quotation. If you want to create an article on this subject, you will have to paraphrase the material in your own words. In doing so, you should consult other sources other than one website. Also, take note of such guidelines as WP:WEB, WP:NOTE and WP:CITE. enochlau (talk) 16:25, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
When I do rework this page, and turn it into my own words, with extra citations, etc... will the page need any special authorization?
thanks again for your help! Janthonylanglois 16:29, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- No, definitely not. enochlau (talk) 16:55, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
In the news
[edit]It's only for lack of willing volunteers; if you'd be willing to do it, that'd be great. It's pretty simple to do - just look for news relating to Wikipedia (a Yahoo or Google News alert on "wikipedia" is a good way to start), pick the ones you think are relevant, and do a brief write-up. You can probably ignore blogs, unless they have a far-reaching effect. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks, Ral315 » 16:23, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Restore deleted files
[edit]Howdy,
Last year I uploaded a picture I took of fish I caught:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&wpDestFile=Spotfincroaker.jpg
Now I found it has been deleted. I'm pretty sure I DID specify licensing when I uploaded them but perhaps not or perhaps it got lost. Anyway if you could please restore it and mark it public domain or I will do so I would appreciate it. Also it's annoying that I didn't receive an email about this or I would have attended to it immediately.
Thanks, Jeff N1ywb 12:45, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Done. I appreciate that it's a little frustrating, but there's so much to clean up that it's impractical to warn everyone. But that's what the undelete function is for. You may, however, wish to upload it to the Commons to share the image more widely. Cheers. enochlau (talk) 12:50, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! I actually did get a warning on my user talk page posted by some bot but like I said an email warning would be more useful. N1ywb 06:43, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Da youngsta's
[edit]Just noticed you deleted it. (Not complaining; I'm not even the creator nor do I even know the group.) However, I checked and it does appear notable. The previous deletions was due to a copyvio. Was it still non-notable? -WarthogDemon 00:15, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- The article made no assertions of notability. I'll message the user who wrote it and let them know. enochlau (talk) 00:16, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
I rewrote the article in my own words and you just deleted it twice
- It wasn't about a copyright violation. The article doesn't make any references to notability - see my post on your talk page. enochlau (talk) 00:19, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Eyebrowy.com
[edit]Why did you delete that page? I could maybe understand how it was deleted because it was only one line, but it's late and im going to bed, and will write a lot more tommorrow. (Which i said id do in the hidden comments) It is a popular website in ireland, and is worthy of notability too. Cm619 00:25, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- The article itself made no assertions of notability about the website: see WP:WEB. If you want to start work on an article and finish it later, what I'd suggest you do is work on a subpage and then move it into article space when you're done. enochlau (talk) 00:27, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
in the news
[edit]The Nielsen/NetRatings piece was covered briefly in last week's News and notes. If you keep it in, be sure to note that those statistics are strictly based on the U.S. (though the article itself does not mention it, I had an email exchange with one of the people quoted in the article as well as someone else at NetRatings).--ragesoss 02:39, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed so, I'll take it out. enochlau (talk) 03:12, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
It looks great. We publish on Monday/early Tuesday, so if there are any updates or new stories between now and then, feel free to add them; otherwise, new stories can go to next week's article. One thing: I deleted the redirect from User talk:Enochlau/In the news; it'll cause problems when I move the page for publication next week. Thanks again for getting it up and running. [edit]50 Simple Things You Can Do to Save Hawaii
Can you please explain why you deleted this post? I have read all the Wikipedia rules and there is no doubt that this book/indiviual meets the criteria?
thanks, Gregg
- It was previously deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/50 Simple Things You Can Do to Save Hawaii. enochlau (talk) 04:40, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Comment - I realize that but the original deletion due to someone having their user profile monkeyed with (possibly a Chaminade student) - their was no apparent justification for the deletion based on Wikipedia guidelines. Can you review this please?
thanks, Gregg
- If you'd like to have an AfD reviewed, you'll need to go to WP:DRV. I cannot unilaterally overturn the decision. enochlau (talk) 08:29, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- Comment - Thanks, I guess I'll try that. I'm truly a novice here and am clueless. My point was that the original entry was not deleted by a 'Wikipedian' but was some kind of malicious act. Thanks, Gregg
Sydney Law School Edits
[edit]Enoch,
You removed edits to Sydney Law School which had removed the reference to Sir Samuel Griffith and Sir Edmund Barton graduating from there. Neither did. Sir Samuel Griffith studied law in Brisbane (see his Wikipedia article). Sir Edmund Barton never studied law, graduating from Sydney University with a degree in classics).
If you have time, could you take a look at the AfD above and comment, whichever way you feel about it? --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 01:25, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia editors said to lack maturity
[edit]Sam Vaknin is the author of Wikipedia - Can Teenagers Write An Encyclopedia?. There also is a Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Sam_Vaknin. The deleted Sam Vaknin Wikipedia article and the Wikipedia - Can Teenagers Write An Encyclopedia article both have http://samvak.tripod.com in them. You might want to modify Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2007-07-23/In the news to provide a connection between Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Sam_Vaknin and the author of Wikipedia - Can Teenagers Write An Encyclopedia?. -- Jreferee (Talk) 06:38, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Sydney Law School
[edit]I am going to rever the deletions. Sir Samuel Griffith didn't study law in Queensland - he only received an Hon LLD (later). His university education was MA and BA (Hons) from Usyd. Just because he doesn't hold an LLB doesn't mean he didn't study law at Sydney: e.g. The Australian Dictionary of Biography says, concerning his education at Sydney: "He also studied law, taking general jurisprudence as an extra university course". He is listed as an alumni by the Sydney Law School site: http://www.law.usyd.edu.au/alumni/distinguished.shtml#judges
The same applies to Richard O'Connor, who was also MA, BA from Usyd, and Sir Edmund Barton, who was MA, BA (Hons) from USyd. There is no evidence that they studied law anywhere other than at Sydney. The only evidence which really points one way or other is the Law School's alumni list.
In fact, it is telling that the anon removed the three founding justices. All of them graduated from Sydney University at a time when the Law School was very young, and the normal course was probably to just a couple of courses in law as part of your BA/MA, and then go clerking. In fact, it wasn't until the time of Evatt and McTiernan - the 1930s, that we see HC judges bearing LL.B. after their names.

[edit]Not sure where to suggest Wikipedia in the News or whether this link is appropriate, but since you did the last issue, I thought this might be where to start. [edit]Well I'd like to nominate Image:Slinky rainbow.jpg for WP:FPC as it's pretty cool, but I can't make new pages as an 'anon'. :) Have you thought about nominating it? It meets all the criteria. 86.137.24.224 00:56, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- I've been around FPC a bit in my time, and I'm not sure if it'll pass. I'll think about it, but thanks for the encouragement anyway! enochlau (talk) 01:01, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Deleted Page?
[edit]Hello,
I was trying to start a page for Mystical Sun and you deleted it. Do you mind telling me why?
Thanks
- It was deleted for being an article about a musical group that did not assert notability: see WP:BAND. enochlau (talk) 09:10, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
That doesn't make sense because there are hundreds of pages of less notable artists with pages. Why are they on wikipedia? Mystical Sun has recently charted on iTunes Music, had several million downloads on mp3.com, is regularly played on national radio. Has released music on several indie labels. What more is needed? Several criteria on the page are met? It doesn't seem that the rules are equally enforced. Please reconsider and let me create the page.
Check out the discography:
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Mystical+Sun
Thanks
- I'm not saying that it's not a notable artist. I'm saying that the article made no assertion of notability - it didn't describe why it's notable! enochlau (talk) 01:33, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, it was stub page. I planned on filling it out more when I returned, and when I did, it was deleted. Is it okay to redo now?
Thanks
- Definitely, just make sure you give evidence that the band is notable. enochlau (talk) 11:04, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

edamame
[edit]lol yeah, me too. it's also interesting how "edamame" is used as the name of the dish in english. in both japanese and chinese there isn't a specific name for the dish - it's just "green soybeans". --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 00:01, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
Image:2dfgrs.png
[edit]Would it be possible to plot this data (100% instead of 30%) on a much larger image, and then scale it down with an image editing software so that the denser areas appear brighter and the more sparse areas appear darker? Currently it's just a pixel of white for each galaxy, so if there are 30 galaxies in a 3x3 square, it will appear as bright as 9 galaxies in a 3x3 square. Kind of like the difference between Image:Neighborhood watch bw.png and Image:Neighborhood watch grayscale.jpg, in other words. — Omegatron 04:20, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yeh I get what you mean, but as the image description info says, I made that image almost 2 years ago for a university project. I still have the source files, but I'll have to see if I can modify it easily to do that. I'll look into it for sure. enochlau (talk) 08:59, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Greetings. I'm a member of Electrosphere.info, and I understand that an article here has previously existed, but was deleted by you some time ago. I was hoping we could come to an agreement on the reinstation / reasons for its deletion in the near future. I will be waiting on yourself and my administrators for the go-ahead or cease and desist to write this article. Thanks, Ayre
- The content of the article made no assertion as to the notability of this particular website. See WP:WEB for advice as to what constitutes a website that you can write about on Wikipedia. Reading what was deleted, it doesn't appear to meet the criteria, but if you believe it does, it is important to make sure that these claims are made in the article, and backed up by external, third-party references: WP:V. If you wish to attempt a rewrite, you should do it in a subpage of your userpage. enochlau (talk) 03:28, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hey...I really liked the article you wrote about John Femia (I'm a biiiig fan of his) and was sad to see that it got deleted. He actually thought that it was quite well done also, and we both were wondering...why did you delete it?
Thanks, and keep up the great writing!

- It was deleted for being a non-notable biography (gosh, half a year ago?), because it made no assertions of the subject's notability. I didn't write the article, by the way. USyd Latin Name
[edit]Did you even check the talk page before reverting again, or did you simply assume there was no new development in verifiability? 58.178.95.158 23:06, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, of course I did. Was a reference inserted? No. enochlau (talk) 02:27, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- And had it not already been established that no online reference was available, but ample physical material was on public display for all to see? - Read WP:V: "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth." I don't care if it's online or not - that isn't the criterion. Cite a book or some other proper publication that states unequivocally that the university has a Latin name, and that it is what you claim it is. enochlau (talk) 13:16, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Up until this point you have made every effort NOT to provide a clear method for demonstrating your requirements, despite repeated requests. I have already directed you to the most authoritative possible source, the university itself (specifically, the Fisher Library's extant exhibition displaying primary sources with the university's Latin name clearly stated) and you still reject these. What do you want now, a photograph? Do the Oxford or Cambridge university articles demand such "verifiability", or are they overseen by competent administrators? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 58.178.95.158 (talk) 13:32:33, August 19, 2007 (UTC)
- A further response and evidence have been posted on the article's talk page. None of this would be necessary if you were even slightly impartial or charitable in your actions, but I digress. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 58.178.95.158 (talk) 13:52:29, August 19, 2007 (UTC)

fring deletion review
[edit]Hi Enochlau,
I have tried to add an article about fring but the page was deleted because of advertising. I viewed the logs and saw that you where one of the admins who deleted it, I tried contacting Joe but he seems to have left wiki.
The wiki page for fring was deleted because of advertising, I would like to remake the article without advertising, I was not the user or users who made the first one but feel that they have abused the system and now its unfairly biasing fring.
I have put the article I made up on my user page so you can see it, please give me feedback and let me know how i can edit it so its not advertising and what i can do to get it back online. I am new to wiki so need your help.
looking forward to hearing from you.
