- Do you need help? Hi, I just noticed two of your articles (Ricardo Mello is one). I hope you don't mind me commenting that the grammar and style may need some work, for example sentences that end in '..but i dont have any info to tell you his clothe makers' are grammatically incorrect, not encyclopedic and contain a spelling mistake. Overall your article is very good. If you need a hand with spelling, grammer or a review of your articles, please ask (lots of people will be very happy to help you). Keep up the great job. Note- I'm not an admin, so feel free to tell me to butt out, but someone will ultimately go in and correct the article. Rob 10:01, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- You are welcome - If you need a hand, please drop me a note on my talk page. I am happy to help. By the way, it's a really good idea to add just a little information to your 'user page'. That way other editors will see that you are 'serious' about wiki. We get a lot of people trying to vandalise pages etc. If we see you have put just a little information into your user page we can see you are serious. Also, please sign your edits on talk pages by including the four ~ marks at the end (or click on the 'sign your name' link below the edit box). These will automatically insert your name and the time of your edit. This also shows other editors that you are serious. Happy editing. Rob 10:15, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
How to get pictures for players
[edit]Hi, you asked how to get pictures fo players in your article. It's very easy. First you need to upload the image and give it a name. If you look to the left of the edit box you will see the 'toolbox'. There is a link there to 'upload a file'. Note that in general you cannot just upload a picture or file you find on the internet, unless it meets the fair use policy. This is because of copyright issues. When you go to the upload image page there is a long explanation of this. I'm not an expert on this matter, so you might want to look at other articles of players and see where they source their photos. Anyway, once you have uploaded your image you can then insert it into the article using the 'embedded image' button which is in the toolbar above the edit box. It is the 6th button along. I think the hardest part will be for you to find an image that is allowed to be uploaded. Good luck. Rob 00:51, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Ricardo Mello
[edit]Hi, you asked for help with your articles. The easiest way for me to do this was simply to edit the Ricardo Mello article. You'll see that I had to change quite a bit and remove a lot of the informal wording - use the history tab to see the exact changes I mdae. But overall your article was great. The main things you need to think about are-
- Spelling and grammer - you had a lot of mistakes. The google toolbar can help a lot with spelling. I'm a shocking speller too, but I use the spell check feature - it works great.
- Don't repeat information - for example his date of birth, height etc if already in the info box. Don't repeat it in your article text.
- Get your facts right and provide a reference/citation - I know nothing about tennis (or next to nothing), so for people like me you need to state your reference or a citation, that is, where did you get the information from? You had Dalray beach as being in California, but I am pretty sure it is Florida etc. Also, you say he's won a lot on clay, but the titles/singles section doesn't relect this. I'm not into tennis so would really know?
- This is an encylopedia, so you need to use a more formal tone when you write. So instead of saying "and he has won a lot of them". You need to say something like "Ricardo has won x titles since 1999", and provide a reference to back this claim up. The issue are words like "a lot". What exact is "a lot"? You need to be specific.
That's about it. Can I suggest you have a go at fixing your other tennis related article based on looking at what I changed and these notes.
Keep up the great work. Your firsts efforts are fine, and you are asking for help. Well done. (I think I learnt a little bit about tennis too, thanks to your article!) Rob 06:55, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
