{{adminhelp}} I emailed a letter to OTRS granting the appropriate licensing permission for two images that I want to upload onto Joan Massague Wiki profile page. Should I assume that someone will respond? Do I need to do anything else before I upload the images? Thanks. Enapolitano (talk) 14:52, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
- You should upload the images to Wikimedia Commons, with the
{{OTRS pending}}
template. Email permissions-commonswikimedia.org with the permissions information and links to the images that you've uploaded, and an OTRS agent will review them and replace{{OTRS pending}}
with{{PermissionsOTRS}}
, indicating that the permission has been verified. There is detailed information on this here.– GorillaWarfare (talk) 16:27, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks - I read somewhere that I should not email both 'permissions-en@wikimedia.org' and 'permissions-commons@wikimedia.org' to avoid duplication and confusion. But I'm happy to do so if I misunderstood the directions. Please clarify... Thanks. Enapolitano (talk) 17:05, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
- I assume that's regarding File:Joan Massagué, PhD, Chair of the Cancer Biology and Genetics Program at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center; Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator.jpg.
- That file is already uploaded, and appropriately marked as awaiting permission.
- Because it is on Commons, you should send the email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. It would be very helpful if you mentioned that exact filename in your email. Beyond that, no further action should be necessary. If there is a problem with the email, someone should contact you; if it is accepted, then a note should be added on the file page - although that process can take quite a while (maybe a week or longer), it does not affect anything.
- You can use the picture immediately - as I have, here.
- If you send multiple emails, it's unlikely to cause any real problem. And if you do have any problem, just ask for more help. Best, Chzz ► 17:18, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you so much! I've emailed permissions-commons@wikimedia.org so hopefully that will work out. I will now figure out how to place the photo on his page. Enapolitano (talk) 17:22, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

SPA / COI
[edit]Hi Enapolitano all your edits to date have been about Joan Massagué Solé and are rather promotional. This makes your account what we call a "single purpose account" (please see WP:SPA) I'm giving you notice of our Conflict of Interest guideline and Terms of Use, and will have some questions for you below.
Hello, Enapolitano. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.
All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.
If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:
- Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
- Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
- Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.
Question
[edit]Wikipedia is a scholarly project, and like all scholarly endeavors, disclosure of conflict of interest is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it. COI issues get a bit ... interesting in Wikipedia, since we allow editors to be anonymous here. Please do read WP:COI, especially the section on Writing about yourself and your work. As in academia, conflict of interest in Wikipedia is managed via disclosure.
While I am not asking you to disclose your identity (anonymity is strictly protecting by out WP:OUTING policy) would you please disclose if you have some relationship with Massague or MSK? You can answer how ever you wish, but if there is a COI please discclose it. After you respond (and you can just reply below), perhaps we can talk a bit about editing Wikipedia, to give you some more orientation to how this place works. Thanks!
