Mongolian language
[edit]Dear Emyrpugh!
First, I'm very glad to sight you at Wikipedia. If you should find the time to contribute to any part of the Mongolia work group, that could mean a very considerable gain for the quality of the available content. But if you would deign to do so, there is a task for which you are probably better qualified than any other wikipedian: I’ve nominated the article on Mongolian language which has mainly be written by me as a Good Article on the Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Assessment#Quality_scale. In order for it to become a Good Article, a review has to be written that can accept or refuse it the status as a good article or put the nomination on hold to await further improvements. Apart from the mere status of the article, I would very much like to know your opinion on this article, so that probable shortcomings can be fixed.
I have copied the content you pasted on your discussion page onto your user page, where such content is normally supposed to be found. If you don't want do have it there, of course, you might just prefer to revert this (somewhat bold) change. With regards, G Purevdorj (talk) 22:05, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- First, take a look at Wikipedia:Good_article_criteria. I’d also suggest you compare these to the More detailed criteria for B class articles at Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Assessment#Quality_scale. Then, have a look if these criteria are met on Mongolian language. If you then decide to actually write a review, follow the guideline laid out at How to review an article on Wikipedia:Good_article_nominations. After having written a note on that page that you do the review, follow the link in the top template of Talk:Mongolian_language to start writing it. Address every problematic detail, and if the sum of these is sufficient to impede promotion to GA status, put the review on hold so that these faults can be dealt with. You of course may also make improvements yourself in the course of the review, so that some of the faults are immediately fixed. G Purevdorj (talk) 23:12, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
License tagging for File:Mg td initial.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Mg td initial.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:06, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- In the same context: The version of the Mongolian glyphs you uploaded seems to be of slightly better technical quality than the ones we already had on Commons, but with the same low resolution. Wasn't it possible to create higher resolution ones, or (the optimal solution) SVG files? And the second question: Why upload such material to enwiki, and not to the Commons right away, so that other language Wikipedias can also benefit from it? --Latebird (talk) 21:15, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- I tried to look through the help on uploading files, but failed to find suitable information on where to upload the images. I'm not even sure where the images I did upload went to or are currently being stored. I can upload much higher resolution if someone can walk me through the process or point out the relevant help files. --Emyrpugh (talk) 10:15, 20 December 2008
- Your images currently reside in the English Wikipedia, and are only accessible there. WP:Uploading images mentions that all free images should be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, where they will immediately be accessible from all Wikimedia projects, but it doesn't present this recommendation very prominently. The Wikimedia Commons are a seperate project and web site. If you don't have configured your account for unified login, then you need to create a new account there. Your (hopefully high-res) glyphs would go into a subcategory of Commons:Category:Mongolian script glyphs. The current subcategory "Classic Mongol script" will eventually be renamed to "Mongolian script glyphs (low-res)", because it holds the old ones. Don't hesitate to ask for help, if you encounter any technical difficulties. --Latebird (talk) 18:25, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
