Trouted

[edit]

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

You have been trouted for: mis-applying {{Redirect for discussion}} like you did here. You may now proceed with the current RFD discussion. –MJLTalk 20:46, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mariner 1 and 2

[edit]

Thank you for all of your help! What do you think, now that Mariner 1 is in good shape, of me taking the Background and Spacecraft sections and putting them whole cloth in Mariner 2? I can keep the expanded experiment descriptions if you think those are useful. I'll then put in a launch of Mariner 1 section, and salvage most of Mariner 2 from "Launch" onward. That should get it at least to "B" and then I can work on refining it for GA. --Neopeius (talk) 04:02, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Neopeius: That sounds fine to me, but you might need to check in at the Help Desk to see if it good practice to copy such a large chunk of content from one article to the other. However, since these spacecraft are basically clones of each other, I think it probably would be fine (although you'd obviously need to mention Mariner 1 in the "background" section of Mariner 2, and maybe add a note in the "Spacecraft" section explaining that its systems were the same as Mariner 1's). I want to help you improving the article so that it is a good article as you've made the lead much better than what it was before. What should I do alongside you to improve its quality further? CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 17:02, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - great to see that somebody is paying attention to my fiddling! At the moment, I'm in the middle of a very time-consuming science research project which is probably going to consume all of my free time until the end of March or so. After that, though, I would love to return to the EM article and set about getting it to FA status.
If you're looking to work on it yourself, I was in the middle of trying to improve the History section, which is pretty crude right now - I actually started creating some replacement paragraphs here, so feel free to add to that if you want. After that, I want to have a section called "Theory" which presents the theory of electromagnetism in a much more organized way - Coulomb's Law, Gauss's law, Biot-Savart Law, Lenz's/Ampere's Law, and then the Maxwell's equations, the same way you learn it in an introductory EM class. If you're familiar with this content, it would be great to start putting it in, but I feel comfortable with doing this part myself when I have time too! Finally, I want to add some more about quantum mechanics - I have a pretty rudimentary knowledge of QM, but probably enough to explain the basics of quantum electrodynamics and the quantization of the EM field via photons, which is all this article needs to cover anyway.
There also may be some cutting in order to make space for all the new content - in particular, I have no idea why the article needs to include a section on the fundamental forces when that article is already wikilinked and not that relevant to the content at hand, and the giant table of electromagnetic units also feels very unnecessary. If you agree with me on those things, maybe you can take them out!
Hope that's helpful! Mover of molehillsmove me 14:49, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try my best :) CactiStaccingCrane 14:52, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I happened to stumble across Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Solar system/archive1, where you said about renominating Wikipedia:Featured topics/Jupiter that your one hesitation is that Jupiter in fiction is not good or featured, and it seems like a relevant part of the topic. Well, Jupiter in fiction is now a WP:Good article, in case you want to reconsider. TompaDompa (talk) 01:26, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me! Have you already renominated it, or do you want me to create the nomination? Mover of molehillsmove me 13:06, 23 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Probably better if you do it. My sole involvement has been bringing the Jupiter in fiction article to WP:Good article status. TompaDompa (talk) 21:11, 23 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - just a good faith comment/FYI - I added the template {{reflist talk}} to your comment. If you use citations/references in a comment in a discussion it's best to use this template, that way the references will be viewable with your comment and not appear in other comments or elsewhere the discussion is transcluded. DYK for Isaac Saul

[edit]

On 18 January 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Isaac Saul, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that journalist Isaac Saul was named as one of the 16 people who had the greatest influence in the 2016 U.S. election? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Isaac Saul 2. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Isaac Saul), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
