ArbCom 2018 election voter message
[edit]Hello, EmmaSno. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

Managing a conflict of interest

We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template)—don't forget to give details of reliable sources supporting your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

Hey, from your edits, I am guessing I know where you work, so it might not be a bad idea to state your COI on your talk page. (You have not done anything wrong!) The updating of links is good (I know you haven't done this for several years), but you don't really need to do that on talk pages. Like here. This was an old data dump, the public doesn't usually look there, and we are usually clever enough to find where "dead links" have gone.
I do have a question for you. I did some research on a mysterious governor that has an info page you might know about, and I have rendered him less mysterious. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get this information updated. Feel free to email me, or I may contact the agency directly. P.S. The Blue Book once cited something I wrote on Wikipedia that was original research on my part, so we used the Blue Book cite to cite my uncited fact.
