Welcome

[edit]

Welcome, Emily, to Wikipedia! I'm Dylan Staley, your campus ambassador. If you have any questions on the homework (which you seem to be doing just fine on), leave me a message on my talk page. I look forward to seeing you in class tomorrow!

Potential New Articles

[edit]
Teacher Retirement System of Louisiana
[edit]

Several other states have entries about their teacher retirement systems. Louisiana's system has been causing financial problems for school districts by increasing the contributions the districts must pay to the system each year. Most recently, districts were required to pay 20.2 percent of teacher retirement costs this year, up from 15.5 percent last year.

Minimum Foundation Program
[edit]

In Louisiana, MFP funding is the primary source of state and local funding for public schools. The MFP formula provides schools with different amounts of funding based on total enrollment and enrollment of special needs students. Public school districts calculate their budgets based on this funding. The MFP formula has come under fire in recent years when public school districts have experienced financial difficulty. This formula is important to understanding how Louisiana public school systems operate.

Teacher Incentive Fund/TAP (The System for Teacher and Student Advancement)
[edit]

Teacher Incentive Fund grants provide performance-based compensation to teachers whose evaluations and student test scores improve after participation in a mentoring program. The Louisiana Department of Education was awarded $36.5 million over five years from this fund to implement TAP in 70 high-need schools. Several Louisiana school districts are participating in TAP programs as part of federal research on the effectiveness of the program. Performance-based pay is a highly debated topic in the education realm.

Note: The first two articles would be based on Louisiana policies (although I could expand them to discuss teacher retirement systems and public school funding formulas in general), but the third could be a national domestic policy issue. Performance-based pay is a controversial issue, and there are currently no entries about TIF or TAP.

Article Selection Feedback

[edit]

Emily, you've done a great job of selecting articles that contribute to the overall goal of Wikipedia. Both your second and third articles are mentioned several times in preexisting articles, and I think it would be fantastic if you could develop articles for either (or both!) of them. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need further assistance. Dylanstaley (talk) 20:00, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tomorrow's Assignment

[edit]

Emily, I've reviewed your contributions to Wikipedia and can see no contributions to a sandbox article. You said that the article was deleted before you could save, however, I have no record of you ever creating an article in the first place. Furthermore, it is against Wikipedia's culture to make edits to another user's sandbox. Remember, to begin a sandbox article, simply go to your userpage, and in your address bar type a slash ("/") followed by the name of your article ("http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Dylanstaley/SandboxArticle"). This creates a sandboxed article that is not searchable, and that other editors will not touch. If you have any more issues, please contact me. Feel free to shoot me an email since the assignment is due tomorrow. Dylanstaley (talk) 21:36, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good article nomination on hold

[edit]

Your article's Good Article promotion has been put on hold. During review, some issues were discovered that can be resolved without fixing some issues. This is how the article, as of April 30, 2011, compares against the six good article criteria:

1. Well written?: fail
2. Factually accurate?: fail
3. Broad in coverage?: pass
4. Neutral point of view?: pass
5. Article stability? pass
6. Images?: pass

Please address these matters soon and then leave a note on the review page showing how they have been resolved. After 48 hours the article should be reviewed again. If these issues are not addressed within 7 days, the article may be failed without further notice. Thank you for your work so far. Guerillero | My Talk 04:27, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
