Welcome!
[edit]Welcome!
Hello, Elton-historian, and welcome to Wikipedia! I have noticed that you are fairly new! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. I also see that some of your recent edits show an interest in the use of images and/or photos on Wikipedia.
Did you know that ...
- ...Wikipedia has a very stringent image use policy?
- ...most images from Flickr, online news websites, and other web sources are copyrighted?
- ...Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously?
- ...freely-licensed images should be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, a central location for images where they can be used on all Wikipedia projects?
- ...we recommend that new users use our "files for upload" process – at least until you get the hang of things?
If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{Help me}}
on your talk page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

- Thank you so much! Should I upload the pic I've used, to the Commons? Elton-historian (talk) 02:49, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- Did you take this photo yourself? My guess is that you probably found it somewhere online, but just checking to make sure. If you took the photo yourself and you haven't published it or uploaded online prior to uploading it to Wikipedia, then please take a look at c:Commons:Licensing and Wikipedia:Image use policy for how to proceed. If you didn't take it yourself, then it's copyright is owned/held by the person who did and you can't uploaded their photo to either Commons or Wikipedia without that their WP:CONSENT or without providing some way of verifying that they've already released the file under an acceptable free license.Now, if you just mistakenly thought that anything you found online was OK to upload to Wikipedia, that's OK since many people make that mistake. In that case, the best thing to do would be to request the file be deleted per speedy deletion criterion G7. Go to file's page, click on "Edit" at the top of the page, add the syntax
{{db-author}}
to the top of the editing window, click "Show preview" to check your work, and then click "Publish changes" if everything looks OK. The file will be deleted shortly thereafter. -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:11, 17 October 2024 (UTC)- Oh no. Got it from Google images. I'll either find another photo and do a better job of documentation, or try to document this one properly. Thank you for all your help. Elton-historian (talk) 03:19, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:PNAU EDMtrio.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:PNAU EDMtrio.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.
If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.
Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:01, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:PNAU (EDMtrio).jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:PNAU (EDMtrio).jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. [edit]You are making mass changes to various articles on Wikipedia to change "Pnau" to "PNAU" and do not have WP:CONSENSUS to do so. Your changes are being reverted. If you want to make this change happen, then get consensus...most likely at Talk:Pnau, where so far the only person agreeing with you is you. This has been patiently explained to you. Engage in discussion and see consensus before making any more changes like this. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 02:10, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Okay. I don't believe I'll pursue this any further. It's too complicated to communicate my reasoning and I'm only causing more problems than betterment. I apologize and thanks for your service. Elton-historian (talk) 03:38, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- You say you won't pursue this any further, yet you keep on doing it. Why? You have no consensus for these edits. Either stop performing these edits until you have consensus, or you will leave me no option but to escalate this matter. If I have to do that, I will be recommending you be blocked. Participating in Wikipedia means being part of a community. It does NOT mean you attempt to brute force your way around here to get what you want. We've been polite and cordial with you, yet you are trying to force your way ahead anyway. This ends. Now. Either get consensus or (very likely) be blocked. Your choice. I hope you choose well. --Hammersoft (talk) 13:55, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- I thought a minor edit here or there would be okay, in accordance with WP:5P5. I do understand it's not idea, but I assure you I meant no disrespect to any previous editors or copyright.
- Initially, in pursuing the PNAU over Pnau campaign, I was,unintentionally and mistakenly, editing the source material, templates and things of that nature. That's what brought me more attention, I believe? Then, when I went back to making changes again, I conscientiously made an effort to only focus on articles and not get into templates and source materials. That didn't work out. So, I thought a few minor changes of the name on Elton John's Wiki and related articles with PNAU might pass, since, I've contributed several edits and additional content to Elton's Wiki with no issues.
- So, I suppose this isn't working out this way?
- Don't think I'm not ignoring the continued suggestion of a consensus, or please don't think I feel any animosity toward you or anyone else. Maybe I did at first, but we worked that out.
- Eventhough, this is very, very trivial and really not that big of deal, in the whole scheme of things... I didn't mean to make it so.
- I give you my word, and it's documented here, I will not pursue anymore changes of Pnau to PNAU without first forming a consensus.
- My apologies again, for all the aggravation. I do appreciate your patience, understanding and help. Elton-historian (talk) 17:05, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
