uploading company images

{{helpme}} I work for Linksys and I want to add product images to our article. Under what License should I upload this? This is considered "my own work" right? They are images that are provided in press kits

That depends. Images on Wikipedia must be free images - available for reuse by anyone, for any purpose. This is usually accomplished by releasing the image under the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike Unported licence.

Note that, even if you were the one who created the images, if they are a Work for hire, the company may be the legally recognised copyright holder, rather than you or anyone else as an individual. Only the copyright holder, or someone authorised by them, may release the images under licence.

The image was not created by work for hire company. It was in house and Linksys has the rights to the images I intend to upload. We would waive the rights to the images I intend to upload for anyone to use publicly.

Note that the term, "Work for hire", includes in-house works - I was referring to the fact that Linksys would hold the copyright (as you have described), rather than the employee who created the image.

Per the instructions at WP:IOWN, it will need to be proven that Linksys have released the images under a free license by, either:

• having the licence information noted at the source of publication (for example, if the press kits you mention are available for download, the license information could be shown on the download site); or
• contacting the Wikimedia Foundation by email (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org) or post, with details of permission. Obviously, the person contacting the Foundation must have the authority to release Linksys's intellectual property under a free license. It is advised to use the standard declaration of consent at WP:CONSENT, in order that the process can be carried out smoothly.

So if I get someone in the Legal department from Linksys to send an email to (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org) stating that images have been released under free license, that would be ok for me to post pictures owned by Linksys? I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. I contacted the company via email ticket #2009100210033461 and they released the image copyright to CC by SA 3.0 so, this image should not be deleted.Elmatamoskas (talk) 17:57, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

You need to contact one of the OTRS people at Wikipedia:Volunteer response team#Users, tickets and queues (look for admins) or check here who can verify the ticket and restore the image. Skier Dude (talk) 03:58, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. I have contacted someone at Linksys and I was able to have them release several images under CC. You can delete this image because I will be posting those images later.Elmatamoskas (talk) 20:39, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
