Hi, Electroguv! I see You're a experienced video game article editor, so I decided to contact You. I have recently been working on Revolution Software/Broken Sword-related articles, and fave promoted 4 to GA. Thanks. I'm just a big fan of Revolution/Broken Sword (best adventure IMO)/adventure games, and the articles were all start/stub when I started editing. I believe great games deserve high quality articles (when I'm finished with Revolution/mainly Broken Sword articles, I'll probably work on The Curse of Monkey Island, so I might contact you for that, if you don't mind). Re:Mass Effect

Sorry for the hugely long delay in replying! Been awfully busy (still am really). The way I dealt with those articles, I used "production" essentially as a timeline of basic development information: its announcement, who's working on it, what staff it uses, convention appearances, platform details and the evolution of this up to release. The "Design" section I use to discuss specifics about the game: art style, gameplay design, cinematic tailoring, writing, all the stuff that ultimately goes into the in-game experience. Design is usually cribbed from interviews, and the ability to write that section ultimately depends on how much the developers have actually talked about it. Though with a game such as Mass Effect, that shouldn't be a problem. Production details can often be referenced to generic news posts about the game from news sites such as IGN during development.   • The FU2 sales information isn't from a reliable source, so I can't really cite it. Also, the only sales information from TTLG is that the game eventually "performed well enough to recoup its development costs", which doesn't necessarily contradict your link--especially when you account for global sales over a period of years. But that link does show how poorly FU2 (and British Open Championship Golf) really sold, so it's a shame that I can't use it. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 22:00, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

MI2 scans

My earliest magazines date back to 1993, and MI2 was released in 1991—so I don't have anything from the time period. For that, you're going to have to go diving into the CGW Museum. It shouldn't be too hard to dig up material on the game from there. Also, take a look at the Amiga Magazine Rack entry for Monkey Island 2, which has a ton of sources. If the source you want is listed but not scanned there, check Archive.org's Computer Magazines Archive. For example, there's an unscanned Zero preview listed at the Amiga Magazine Rack, and I was able to find it on Archive.org here. Probably just the tip of the iceberg.

That said, I did go looking in my archive for retrospective features on MI2. Despite having a bunch of stuff on LucasArts games in general, I don't appear to have anything on MI2. Sorry; I hope the above sources are enough. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 23:40, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

• Next Gen issue 12 contains a preview of the game with some decent information. I thought I'd have to scan it, but I found it online here.
• Next Gen issue 14 has a review, and it's likewise online here.
• EGM issue 92 (March 1997): Page 50.
• OPM Jan 2000 (reference version: {{cite journal | title=The End of the World Survival Guide | date=January 2000 | journal=[[Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine]] | pages=76-85 | volume=3 |issue=4 }}) contains a little mention of the game in its "The End of the World Survival Guide". It's not enough to be worth scanning, since I can just type it out:

• "These days everyone may be talking about Soul Calibur (the sequel to Soul Blade), but let's not forget the game that started it all. Soul Blade may be over three years old, but in most important ways it still holds up. The different slashes, reversals, sidestepping and combos of this unique weapon-based fighter, plus extras like team battle, survival and time attack modes, earn it a place alongside Tekken 3 and SFA3 in any fighting game collection.

Hey there! Just got your email. Unfortunately, sometimes, there's no quick-and-easy solution to a source problem. When working on Flight Unlimited, I personally bought two documents (the manual and the player's guide) that weren't online. There simply was no other way to get them, and I couldn't write the article without them. The Dean Takahashi book you mentioned was actually easier to get: I just did an interlibrary loan for it, and it showed up after a few weeks. If you live in a country that has Asakura's book in its library system, you can probably get a copy without much trouble. Check WorldCat. If not, you're still in luck: the book is on Amazon for better prices than I paid for the Flight Unlimited materials. Neither of these solutions is ideal, obviously; but Wikipedia sometimes requires you to get your hands dirty. It's all down to how much you want to write an article, really! RE: Halo scans

Hey, long time no see! I'd love to help, but my magazines are all currently in storage, and in the packing process were thrown completely out of date order. As a result, even getting in there to access them won't guarantee that I'll be able to locate that particular issue (I own hundreds and hundreds of magazines). I might be able to find time in the next couple of weeks, if you're willing to wait. There are a lot of other sources online for Halo's development, in the meantime, if you're hoping to get started before then. Hey! Wow, that development section is huge. It could practically be split off into its own article (a la Development of Deus Ex). Great work tracking down all this information. Unfortunately, I'm not very active these days—work has kept me busy for most of the year. I just haven't had time for the big Wikipedia projects I once did. Maybe others over on WT:VG could help?
