Bay Area Reference Center

You tagged the article as needing reference improvement following its initial creation, when it looked like this. Note that nothing in the article is unreferenced, that there are 5 references, of which only two are to the same work, and that the edit summary reads "Starting article with 2 major refs, some of the shorter ones" - implying that further references are to come. My next edit leaves it looking like this: there are now 4 added references, and information on the corresponding Southern California institution and a further section have been added using these. I hate to say it, but I believe that's pretty good article writing procedure. And it can't have escaped your notice that I have the autoreviewer right: I have no problem with New Page reviewers looking at and critiquing my new articles, or any other fellow editors for that matter, but I don't think it's the best use of your "article curation" time, and I question your judgement in tagging the article as inadequately referenced—in addition to which, you tagged it when new and it soon had even more references. I have accordingly removed the tag and would like to suggest you focus on articles that have had some time for additional edits, not the front of the list, and save the tags for articles a lot more deficient than this. I notice that you are new to article curation/new page patrol and from the section above I suspect you may be a bit confused about it. Did you read Wikipedia:New pages patrol? Note the warnings at the top of it. It and the Further reading are the first steps recommended at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/School. The article curation tool is just that, a tool; you still need to be aware of the whys and hows. Philafrenzy also has the autopatrol right (in fact they've created more articles than I have), so both our new articles will have appeared already white in the new pages feed. The reason for that right is to take some of the load off the new page patrollers by "whitelisting", so to speak, articles that are likely ok because they've been created by an editor who's created many articles and demonstrated they know what they're doing; it's ok to look at those, but the ones with the yellow highlight are more likely to need checking. And what you're doing when you decide to place a tag is critiquing—in fact it's criticizing, marking the article as deficient. There's no need to look for a tag to place; if you think a new article is ok, just mark it patrolled (and maybe fix any small problem you see, yourself). People work in many different ways, and new users are more likely than experienced Wikipedians not to realize that they need to have a claim of notability and a reference or two before they hit "Save" the first time, so it's strongly recommended not to work off the very front of the new pages list, so as not to bite newbies and jump the gun on people who were about to fix the problem after their first save. Have you considered doing the New Page Patrol School? It's not mandatory, but there are a lot of things to consider and so it's one of the areas where mentoring from someone experienced can be very useful.
