Hello Ecswiki2023. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Ecswiki2023. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Ecswiki2023|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. 331dot (talk) 13:13, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @331dot, I made the required disclosure when I first created the account. Indeed, my public declaration of COI is visible when visiting my user page. The nature of the COI is simply that I am an entry-level employee of ECS. My understanding of the Wikimedia Terms of Use is that this typically represents a significant obstacle to getting an article published, but that it does not constitute grounds for an automatic rejection. Thus far, no reviewer has shown me that the article and facts stated therein were not written from an objective POV or show obvious bias. All sources throughout the article are sourced to third parties. Please advise any specific edits I should make to the article's content that would render it acceptable. If Wikipedia admins deem that an impossibility due to my COI, please advise if I can submit this article via the articles for creation process. Ecswiki2023 (talk) 14:47, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As you seem to be an employee, you must make the stricter paid editing disclosure.
The writing style is highly promotional("entered its third decade") and summarizes the routine activities of the company, not significant coverage of the company. 331dot (talk) 15:06, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @331dot, please see below for the paid editing disclosure:
Once my account has been unlocked, I will add the same disclosure to my user page (while blocked I seem to be unable to make edits to the user page). Thank you! Ecswiki2023 (talk) 13:57, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, please follow the instructions to make an unblock request for someone to review. 331dot (talk) 14:00, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. 331dot (talk) 13:15, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You will also need to address your use of the company logo- you claimed it as your own personal work, meaning that you personally created it and want to make it available for anyone to use for any purpose with attribution. This would mean, hypothetically, that someone could take your logo, print it on clothing, and sell it and your company would not be entitled to any money from the sale of its own logo. I wouldn't want to do that if I were the company, but if your company does, that's fine, please let us know. 331dot (talk) 13:16, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @331dot, it's my personal work insofar as it's the property of ECS, and I'm acting as a representative of ECS. As you pointed out, we wouldn't want unauthorized use of our logo or use without compensation (as unlikely as that seems in this instance). Please advise what the correct method of uploading the image would be, or if I simply need to come up with some alternative to using our logo. Ecswiki2023 (talk) 14:50, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You may only claim it as your personal work if you personally created it. You will need to request its deletion from Commons. You may then use WP:UPIMAGE to upload the logo to this Wikipedia directly under "fair use". You don't need to do that until the draft is accepted, as fair use images cannot be in drafts. 331dot (talk) 15:02, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Images are not relevant to the draft approval process anyway. 331dot (talk) 15:03, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

Requesting an unblock as I have now made the required paid editing disclosure (please see above on Talk page) and am receiving guidance on how to edit the page to read less "promotional" and more objective coverage of ECS Federal.

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action, or you have not responded to questions raised during that time. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that
  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.
Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. Yamla (talk) 18:39, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please advise what further actions I can take to unblock my account. I have taken action re: the original cause of the block by completing the paid editing disclosure. There were no damaging/disruptive edits or any nefarious behavior to correct so at this point I'm not sure what the block is still in place for. "ECS Federal" is a page that ought to exist as the company is involved in relevant government and Department of Defense contract work. Once unblocked I'm ready to submit the info I have through the articles for creation process, if that's the preferred route for the admins. Ecswiki2023 (talk) 00:21, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
