[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that the username you have chosen, "Ecashin", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or have the appearance of shared use. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Alexf(talk) 14:48, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
- I'm Ed Cashin. That's why my username is "ecashin". It's a long-standing personal account. Maybe you thought otherwise because I linked to a URL that also contains the string, "ecashin". That's because I have a personal account on github as well as wikipedia. I added the new link because the bakery algorithm page had no Go implementation and no generic distributed implementation.Ecashin (talk) 15:16, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
- So to be clear, nobody else has access to my account. If there's still a problem, please let me know. Thanks. Ecashin (talk) 15:27, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
- JamesBWatson removed the link to the distributed Go implementation of the bakery algorithm. I think I understand you now, Alexf, but isn't it true that it would have been fine for me (as the author of the code) to paste the implementation into the wiki page? The only reason I didn't is that it's a longer example than would work well in the running text of the article.
I think that wikipedia would benefit from splitting uw-coi-username in two. The suggestion that "Ecashin" is a shared account promoting a business or something distracted me from the real message, which is that you cannot share your own original content via external links.
