The procedure at pui is After 15 days in phase 1, move images to phase 2 and add {{unverifedimage}} to the caption of images I think that means you have to edit all the pages that the image appears on. PUI procedure

When an image is moved from Phase I to Phase II, please only place the unverified image thing on the article and leave the stuff on the image page itself. WP:ASK

Stare as I might I can't seem to find: Search Wikipedia using the box to the left. Is it possible that some of us using different skins than you would need to look up or for that matter look down for our search box? At the very least please remove this inaccuracy. You may note that this page has been edited to by many others before you took notice. The consensus seems suggest as simple a page as possible to increase the liklihood of the neophyte user reading it at all. You're quite right. Luckily, most new users use the standard skin, and most others are not so easily stumped by a displaced searchbox and will happen upon it on further inspection of the layout. So I'm sure this misunderstanding has not caused too many people grief. I'm sorry for my tone, it just seems to flow naturally. After all, you reverted my edits because of a problem you could have easily fixed.

No, I never did notice that in the RD header! And from personal experience a new user will often just use whatever skin his parents are logged in with. Because we have no minimum age or IQ to participate we are doomed and will always get seemingly silly and frequent homework questions. ASK was originally intended to do a triage between RD and HD. The idea was to as simply as possible direct traffic to the correct one of those two places. We felt that the most effective way to do that was to aim at the least literate and most impatient new user by using as few words as reasonable. Lots of additions and subtractions have edited their way through ASK and I'm only asking the original concept of HD vs RD be kept in mind. -- hydnjo talk 23:17, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

Template:Cleanup

There. I got the best of both worlds by using the Qif template to determine the size of the icon. If the template is only two lines, the icon is reduced, but if the template has three lines, the icon is full-size. ;)

Category filing

Hi. You appear to be slightly confused about how category filing works in Wikipedia: this edit certainly doesn't do what your edit summary would imply you think it does. The default filing by the article name lists the article under the "R" section of the category and would file it after "Red" but before "Rfd" if such articles existed. The suffix means that it would be filed after a separate "Red Wizards" article, but as there isn't one of those (it's a pointless redirect at the moment), this isn't an issue. By filing it as "* Red Wizards", you are causing the article to be listed at the start of the category, which is a place reserved for the most important article(s) about each topic. You could specify the sort key as "Red Wizards", but as noted above this is a non-issue. Please read and review WP:CAT#Category sorting. I will revert your edit. Why not? I'm sorry, but if you take a look at the top of each page, you'll find instructions on hoow to use this page. Unless observation of these rules is somehow encouraged, this page will continue to be an embarassment to WIkipedia.

The concept of a Reference desk is brilliant, but allowing non-questions such as "enviroment and its relation with geography" is ridiculous and does not appear professional. Questions such as "How does a barometer work?" are atleast phrased properly, although the user clearly did not read the instructions either. I was about to ask you to stop biting the newbies, Ec, but it seems someone else has beaten me to it. Read WP:BITE. Whilst many of the questions are badly writen, and often indecipherable, please consider that many of them may have been written by people who do not have English as their first language, or who may be very young. The 'embarrassment' to Wikipedia would be if people are turned away from this excellent and free encyclopaedia by flippant or brusque attitudes to - what appears to them - a perfectly honest question. 'Do your own homework' is a good response to what is obviously a homework question, but it does no harm to offer a pointer or two in addition. Proto t c 12:25, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Stubs

Removal of images from geo stubs

I'm not exactly sure. I've seen these silly icons adorn stub messages for a while now, and I may have snapped. In my understanding, stub images hurt performance and serve no useful purpose. Or rather, most serve no purpose, such as images of a Canadian flag in an article about a Canadian region. The article quite clearly mentions that its topic is Canadian, so the image does not clarify anything.

Still, this sort of discussion should probably have preceded my edits. Nonetheless, I hope we can resolve this peacefully and quickly, because every time I experience lag on Wikipedia I am aggressively reminded of these superfluous images.

(Obviously I hate images in signatures as well, and would support a set of signatures from which users could choose). -- Ec5618 20:35, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

Also, take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Proposals#Include-only_for_stub_categories_on_stub_templates regarding not using includeonly for the categories on stub templates, but instead using <noinclude>|*</noinclude> to sort the template to the beginning of the category. Also, the new image server should help alleviate some of the lag from images... --Mairi 05:44, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Stub templates

Hi - please NEVER EVER use "noinclude" on stub templates! It is vital for stub sorters to be able to tell at a glance whether templates have been correctly formatted, i.e., whether they hav a correctly named companion category. With noinclude this is impossible. I have reverted several of the Canadian province geo-stub categories you have done this with - what other templates have you altered in this way? (and please don't remove the icons, either - since the MW1.5 upgrade there don't seem to be the old server problems, so they're back in use - and are much appreciated by editors, by all accounts).
