Template:Kylie

Hi. I see that you reverted my edits to Template:Kylie, and I thought I'd caution you about your misuse of the administrators' rollback feature. Per Wikipedia:Revert, "Rollbacks should be used with caution and restraint. Reverting a good-faith edit may send the message that "I think your edit was no better than vandalism and doesn't deserve even the courtesy of an explanatory edit summary." It is a slap in the face to a good-faith editor; do not abuse it. If you insist on using the rollback feature for non-vandalism edits, be sure to explain on the talk page of the user whose edit(s) you reverted." Also, anybody who was browsing Special:Recentchanges at the time or looking at the edit history for the template may get the wrong impression that my edits were vandalism, when they were not. I compressed the template because I feel that it is large and unwieldy, and this had been a problem with Template:Mariah Carey2 (see this TFD debate) and others. So I compressed it to include a link to Minogue's discography article. If you still do not agree with this, please reply at Template talk:Kylie. Thanks. I have reason to believe that a small number of people have been attempting to use Wikipedia for narrow partisan ends, writing glowing articles on figures from Britain's far-right. This is potentially a matter of some importance for Wikipedia's credibility.

Your source in my opinion not consistent and in it have not absolutely exact information. I only wish to help to you and to give the correct information which precisely I know. Site of russian Ministry of Defense for me is more authoritative, than a World Almanac. Yours article calling "List of countries by number of active troops", but not "List of countries by number of active troops by World Almanac". It is good to use by World Almanac, when there is not other exact data, but if we have more authoritative resources we should use them. If you will change the page again, I shall be compelled to create another page and call it "List of countries by currently number of active troops". Why you revert all the modifications that I DO... I pass 5 hours to work on the article of the borougs of MONTREAl and I discurved taht they have a lot of problem... For a lot of borough, they are TWO pages... It is anormal... If I want a information for a borough, you have to search on 2 pages.... it's crazy. Oh and I completely agree with you that it must get expanded. What I'm saying is I will go through bio articles that do not have any stats at all and put in that quick box. I'm not saying it should be permanent by any stretch of the imagination, just temporary until another user finds time to complete the stats section. Its more meant for stubs. In regards to your response, I strongly suggest that you review Wikipedia:Fair use. In order to use an image we need information on its source, who owns the copyright and a detailed fair use rationale. Simply saying "promo" is not enough information. If you're aware of other images that you or others have uploaded that are copyright-infringing without meeting Fair use standards, you can help out by tagging them with all of the necessary information, or further help out at Wikipedia:WikiProject Fair use. Swedish-Canadians

I'm puzzled by that as well, but this IP has been putting them up Swedish players on other players as Swedish-Canadians, such as Peter Forsberg and Niklas Sundstrom. Ouch! Low blow! Actually, the 1 game I went to wasn't even a Leafs game. It was a Buffalo vs. Philadelphia in one of the last games at the old Buffalo Aud. Probably the best game to go to also, 6-5, bench-clearing brawl, etc... It was great, but it was almost 10 years ago in March, 1996. I do think it is time to go to another game, but who can afford Leafs tickets? Or who can get them? Its much more efficient to watch them on TV. Sundin's better than Alfredsson. Yeah I was like 8 or 9, tagging along with my older brother's hockey team who played an exhibition game at the Aud that afternoon. Sundin is so better than Alfredsson, look at the stats! I got 4 words for you: linemates and ice time. I'm sure Alfredsson has been given every chance to play with the great players Ottawa has gotten in the present in past (Spezza and Heatley, c'mon). Sundin's had to play on the same line with the likes of Jonas Hoglund or Mikael Renberg. Never been given a chance to play on a line with skilled players. Also, Quinn for some reason loathes to play Sundin more than 20 minutes a game (ever since he got here!). Meanwhile Alfredsson gets 22, 23 minutes per game. You also reference trophies, what about clutch? Sundin has the record for most career overtime goals, and is always the Leafs best player in the playoffs. Yep, better than Alfredsson. Hey I love the fact that each Canadian team has a distinguishable face that has been there for a long time (Calgary-Jarome Iginla, Edmonton-Ryan Smyth), tis a golden age for the Canadian hockey teams. But that's besides the point. I wasn't dissing Koivu, but Sundin and Alfredsson ARE better players than him. But I would say that Naslund is below Sundin but above Alfredsson in goodness. I disagree, because the Big Line has slowed down considerably due to the injuries to Havlat, and then Bochenski. Alfredsson's pace has slowed down a lot. St./Saint Andrews

Hello -- happy new year. I have a bit of a question for you. I see that back in September you moved the St. Andrews, New Brunswick article to Saint Andrews, New Brunswick. I'm a little perplexed, because it looks to me like the article, and the Town's website, indicate that it is spelled "St. Andrews" not "Saint Andrews" (St. and Saint not necessarily being interchangeable). Yeah that was a good game, I felt bad for the Russian goalie because this is a second whack at Canada and he failed again and his team didn't do much in front of him. Alright I dug out my NHL Official Guide $ Record Book, and it was 83 shots the Boston Bruins got on March 4, 1941 against the Chicago Blackhawks, and Boston won 3-2. But it didn't say who the goalie was so I dug out my NHL Players Ultimate A-Z Guide by Andrew Podnieks (you want the ISBN too? lol) and comfirmed it was Sam LoPresti. This LoPresti guy also enlisted in the US Navy during WWII, and spent 42 days on a lifeboat before being saved. Hmm... interesting. Also I did confirm the Tugnutt thing, and that happened in March 21, 1991 also against the Boston Bruins. In fact Boston has 3 of the top 4 places for most shots in a game. Election Template

Hey, I saw that you created the CanElec6 and that is all good. However, is it really necessary? I have done quite a few of them, and residence doesn't seem that important when you just want the straight facts. Anyway, my real concern is that when you switch the template to CanTemp6, could you fix the box so that the bottom three boxes are colspan='4'? Laws on Homosexuality Map

Hey, so it says you are the creator of Image:Laws on homosexuality.PNG in the copyright info box. It's a great map, but there's a small error in it. The maps shows South Africa as having same-sex marriage, which is not true. While there was a court ruling in South Africa requiring same-sex marriage to be legalized, it has yet to come in to force. If you weren't the one to make the change, no problem, but it would be great if someone could correct it. I would do it myself, but i don't have any image editing software. That Map is out of date. YOu can have same-sex marriages in United Kingdom, Venezuela and Denmark is't marked for same sex marriage as that country is the first one to legalize it! regards Allie

Any suggestion on what to do with User:Orthodoxe

After losing some recent arguements on the Montreal West, Quebec page, trying to rename everything to Montréal-Ouest, Quebec, he has gone and moved the Dieu et mon droit page to God and my right to make some kind of perverse point. Looking at his recent contributions it also looks like he renamed the Martin Luther King III page to Martin Luther King, son! This is starting to be vandalism. Image:Aljabir.JPG has no source; just saying it's from rulers.org isn't saying much, as they don't have anything there about who created the image. Anyway, I've put a different, free, image on Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah; I don't know if we need a fair use photo, but if we have one it should have a good source: i.e. be an official portrait. Although I hate it when people tag my stuff for deletion I am kinda tempted to in this case but wanted to run it by you first. You uploaded the image Image:Coppss.jpg as your own creation and release it into public domain. I just notice, though, that it is the same image as the one on her parlaiment bio. When I saw you user name I though it was entirely possible that you are in fact Andy Schott the creator of this work. If that is the case then im sorry to bother you (although I suggest that you add a little more info to its description to avoid this kinda mistake in the future). If you aren't Andy Schott then I took a couple of photos of her when she delivered an alumni speech at the University of Western Ontario a while ago which might do for her page. You're probably the right person to ask about this ...

Have you seen any formal clarification as to whether incumbents defeated in this week's election should be listed as MPs until 2005, or 2006? The parl.gc.ca site suggests the former, counter-intuitive though that may seem. CJCurrie 02:36, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

But, for succession boxes, I'd suggest using 2006.

That was my initial inclination, but I changed my mind after reviewing the parl.gc.ca site. As a matter of precedent, incumbent MPs from 1979 who lost their seats in January 1980 are listed as MPs "to 1979".

The parliamentary site isn't always accurate, but I'm inclined to trust them on this one (barring information to the contrary).

In earlier times, it was acknowledged that there were no "Members of Parliament" between elections. I'm not certain there's ever been formal or legal clarification on the point for the modern political scene. CJCurrie 02:59, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

I got the 2nd highest claim from the citizen [1] when I do a quick check at elections.ca of the 5 ridings with ottawa in their name, OC had the most votes cast with 66,950. 2006 Winter Olympics

Please stop taking out 9th and 10th place finishes. 10 is a better number than 8, and consistency really doesn't matter. If it's such a big deal, I edited the 2002 Olympics one so that it has Top 10. Besides, there are so many differences between the 2002, 2004 and 2006 pages that having top 10 rather than top 8 really shouldn't matter.

Since you care about consistency so much, why don't you spend a lot of time to make all 3 articles just like eachother? ~Scorpion0422

You can not use a copyrighted work as a basis for a derivative work. My understanding is that copyright does not work that way. If it was in the public domain and you do enough changes you can claim copyright on it, but if it was copyrighted to begin with you shouldn't use it. On the other hand using a government map to trace the outlines into a new file which you then use to create a new map would be fine, if that is what you mean. I've noticed you through your contributions on curling related articles. Thanks for all your work on that subject.

I see you're using the logo of the NDP in your signature (Image:Ndpsmall.jpg). That image isn't licensed for use on Wikipedia, so we're just claiming Fair use and that really only extends to uses in articles which directly relate to its subject. Your use of it in your signature doesn't really fit with that purpose. It's also not really related to the project to wear your political affiliation on your sleeve like that. Would you consider changing it? Thanks!

Curling tables

I noticed that you have reverted my edit of the curling tables at 2006 Scott Tournament of Hearts, citing prior World Championship articles. However, existing Wikipedia conventions on data tables suggest that the edited table form which is used in Curling at the 2006 Winter Olympics is to be used. This form also reflects similar tables used in other sports. Please take this into consideration before making any further changes into the teams tables. kelvSYC 19:41, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

In regards to your response on my talk page: I am referring to table conventions in general. Your format lacks the semantic ease-of-use factor that we may need in the future - the usage of <br/> tags are not recommended, and tabular data are better suited in data tables. The colors are largely irrelevent and of no practical use. Furthermore, with my views, it looks ugly and takes up too much space (the entire table can be seen without scrolling with my table, while with yours I have to scroll). All in all, good web design guidelines state that layout tables are to be avoided. kelvSYC 20:58, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

Again, the problem is that the tables are not compact, and does not optimally express semantic value. Just to make another example, which one is better, this table:

... or the one that is actually in Ottawa Senators? I'm partial to the latter.

Another problem is that it is not scalable. It is a considerable pain if we were to augment the above table with, say, the list of Sens forwards and defensemen. There is also the issue of the ability to linearize the table for those of us who access Wikipedia from a text device or through a hearing device. Using the above table, one would assume that Emery and not Hasek would be from the Czech Republic with a hearing device, for instance.

On the comment of the relevance of colors: colors are actually very distracting. In a lot of places we limit ourselves to only one or two colors: for example, 2005-06 NHL season has only a green to tell us which teams are in playoff position and which aren't. If you were to replace the row colors with the team colors, even if they were lightened, the result would still be unreadable and look cluttered.

I still vehemently disagree - the site you stated has horrible design in my books (nested tables... ugh). The issue comes down to content semantics and presentation semantics: the way you have it, you put presentation first when content is more important. The general view on good design is that one has to design with content in mind - presentation can be added later. By putting presentation first, you obfuscate the content. The problem in the content design is that it is not apparent on the column associations. Team Canada lies in the same column as Manitoba and Nova Scotia, implying that the rinks have something to do with each other (so Jennifer Jones and Colleen Jones are both Team Canada, right?), which they do not. If you think the above is the worst argument, fine. Keep those opinions at the door. We're here for civilized discussion.

However, an audio reader can (and sometimes do) make these kinds of assertions. An audio reader can easily make the mistake of saying that the Harvey rink is both Team Canada and Manitoba, the Jones rink Canada, Manitoba, and Nova Scotia, and the Belisle rink under Canada, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Quebec, just because all are in the same column. Maybe it is the case that anyone can read it out and see which rink is associated with which team, but for those of us who use the internet without the luxury of visuals, life is often quite difficult.

Then there is also those of us who surf without tables. The way I have it, you can still tell easily who's playing what role on which team. With yours, we have "Team Canada", "Alberta", "British Columbia", "St. Vital Curling Club, Winnipeg...", "Saville Centre Curling Club, Edmonton", etc. It takes quite a bit to see that the Jones rink represents Team Canada, the King rink represents Alberta, etc. It's even harder to see that Gagnier is the third for NWT/Y who throws skip stones, or that Hollands is the lead for Quebec. Now, imagine that you put six teams in one row instead of three. We could probably tell that Andrea Kelly was a skip, but could we easily tell which rink she belonged to? Not as easily compared to the way I have it.

Couchiching Terriers of the OPJHL

Ok... I looked at a map... they are located on Rama Road on the edge of Lake Couchiching. Is there a town or village actually called Rama, Ontario? Because I set up that column specifically for the centre they play out of and have absolutely no clue... Rama, Ontario is a community just outside of Orillia, Ontario. It's the home of the Chippewas of Mnjikaning First Nation. Their arena is called the "MASK" or 'Mnjikaning Arena Sports Ki' (Ki is an Ojibway word, I think meaning 'land', but I'm not certain on that). It is located at 6145 Rama Road, Rama, Ontario (very close to Casino Rama actually). One of the best on-line sources of info about the arena is The Ramakings Lacrosse team website. Page playoff system

Hey Earl, I've seen many of your edits (particularly since some of our interests overlap--Canada, politics (esp. NDP) and curling are just a few examples) and they've always been very good, especially those pretty maps. I noticed recently that there was no article on the page playoff system, so I wrote one to get it going. However, I don't know that much about curling history and I'm sure there are other things that you could add that would help improve it, possibly up to a DYK level. This would probably be great to do right now, considering the world championships that are going on. So if you want to have a look at it and/or can think of a good DYK line, feel free.

Also, I'm planning on being in Boston the first week of April, so I may wander up to Lowell for the Men's Worlds. I'll try to take some pictures, but if you had any suggestions (specific or general) of free curling (or other?) pictures Wikipedia might benefit from, I'll do my best. Hey, I was wondering if you might be willing to look at the leagues I've done in the Ottawa District Hockey Association. I have a detailed history entered for the CJHL and a few of the teams that were willing to put their actual team history on their websites... but I am missing a lot of stats... and the history of teams I could obviously never know (I live on the other side of the province). Well I'm actually not conservative, I'm all over the map with my political views so I couldn't say I am Conservative or Liberal. I myself actually don't like the party politics game, so its all good. And, ahem, Sundin has been on in the top 25 for the last 13 years, I don't think Alfredsson can brag about that, and even saying that Sundin had 79 points this year (and that's with the help of those Sens who knocked him out for those twelve games at the beginning of the season). If you give Sundin those 12 games back, plus the time it took him to get back into form following the injury, AND give him Heatley and Spezza as linemates, Sundin would smoke Alfredsson. By the way, earlier in the season you said Alfredsson would smoke Sundin's career high in points this year? Uh Alfredsson only finished with 103, so he's still 11 points short of Mats' high. Seeing your block on this user I am currently inclined to unblock. The only potential 3RR violation I can see occurred some 24 hours prior to the block being enforced. From the blocking policy "In all cases, blocks are preventative rather than punitive, and serve only to avoid damage to Wikipedia", clearly blocking someone 24 hours after an edit war has finished is not prevantative but punitive. Hey Earl Andrew, I noticed that you created a page back in January for the Ottawa Raiders. I just created an infobox template (Template:NWHL team infobox, ripped off from the NHL infobox) that you might want to include on the page, if you're still keeping up with it. Even the Brampton Thunder page I've put it on needs a little more work before the infobox will really look like it fits. Actually, I don't follow the NWHL very closely either--I've never been to a game. Like you and the Raiders, I created the Brampton Thunder page to contribute to knowledge of Brampton, which is an incredibly boring city, but is where I've lived all my life. Ridings

Earl, just to let you know, I have been preparing election results tables offline for several months now, and am beginning the process of loading these tables into the articles. I have created tables to provide complete results for all federal ridings (current and defunct) up to and including the 2004 election. These tables are pretty basic: candidate name, party, # of votes -- they do not include %s, and the names are in the "LASTNAME, Firstname" format, rather than the more pleasant "Firstname Lastname" format. But they are a start. It will take me several weeks to load these. For obvious reasons, I started with New Brunswick, and will continue with Nova Scotia and then other provinces. Remove an image that you uploaded

Townships of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo

Earl Andrew, I was curious as to wether or not you would mind if I, Tom H., or you, would relocate the townships in Waterloo Region from their current short-named pages (ie. "Wellesley, Ontario") to their official-named pages (ie. "Township of Wellesley" or "Township of Wellesley, Ontario") because I realize that when I had done this before, you had reverted the page back to its previous condition. I would appreciate this very much for when people attempt to access a site on the town of Wellesley (the largest community in the Township of Wellesley) they must always go through the township site. This would also be the same for the comunity of Wilmot in the Township of Wilmot. So if these changes were made, people that were seeking information on the townships would be able to locate the township pages, and they would also be able to find the towns' pages better by simply being taken to "Wellesley, Ontario" (holding intelligence on the community and not the township). I'm familiar with your other work on Wikipedia and am quite impressed. Thank you for your care, concern, and passion in helping to bring knowledge to the masses. Hello there, I was wondering if you would please modify your signature to conform to the guidelines laid out at Wikipedia:Sign your posts on talk pages. The general guidelines are that signatures shouldn't contain images, they shouldn't contain unnecessary internal links or any external links, and they shouldn't be unnecessarily long in Wiki source. The reasoning for this final bit is that overly long signatures tend to overwhelm the actual comments in edit mode, making it hard to track down and respond to specific comments. You can fix your signature by removing any images and external links, any unnecessary links (like links to Wikipedian organizations, articles, or subpages in userspace), and removing excessive color, font, and formatting code. Hello. I'm currently involved with the Canada project on the french-language wikipedia, and looking to create articles for every federal riding (most of the links are red, as you can see on fr:39e législature du Canada. Since there are very few of us working on this project and the time required to do them all manually is daunting (even prohibitive) it was suggested to me by User:ADM to contact you for help. Simply put, I was wondering if you would be able to help me with some sort of process (such as a bot) to automatically create stubs for every federal riding, which we could later take our time to expand. List of Ontario municipalities

I created this page as a way to a) stop WikiWoo from adding all the municipalities in Ontario which are census subdivisions and not divisions to List of Ontario census divisions, since he doesn't listen to reason, and b) to try to put some sort of control over his edits which would otherwise have been to create several oddly-named articles containing his anti-regional government POV--I created the list to replace WikiWoo's Single and Double Tier Municipalities fo Ontario (sic). I am perfectly okay with the removal of the page, although I do think there probably should be List articles on Ontario's regional municipalities, counties, and districts. I know there's one on the separated municipalities already. Anyway, my main concern was to try to limit the damage WikiWoo has been causing. JzG and Btball have recently helped out a bit on this front, and Garywill and JChap2007 have been, like me, trying to keep his edits in check (sometimes with little success). Earl, I see you've split and changed some of the regions for the upcoming NB election. I think some of the changes you made sense, but FYI the way it was broken down was not done arbitrarily but it is the regions as defined by the electoral boundaries commission [7]. Bilingualism in Ottawa

Thanks for adding a better image to the article. I noticed though, that the image shows the signage for the intersection of an Ave. (av.) with another Ave. (av.). I believe AshleyMorton had subtracted the population of a numer of small islands off the coast of Newfoundland, like Fogo Island, Twillingate, etc., not the population of Labrador. Joe Volpe protection

Currently, the dispute is between CJCurrie and I and we have reached an impasse.

Even before you instituted protection, he has stated that he has "said everything" and is trying to bring closure to the debate, so he has not bothered to answer my last few posts. The problem is that he has no incentive to get back to the table if you keep the page protected...unless you alternate between my version and his.

Her pro-Israel stance isn't unusual for the Manitoba NDP: Pat Martin and Gary Doer hold similar views (and perhaps Bill Blaikie -- I'm not certain). For a variety of reasons, NDPers in Winnipeg tend to be more pro-Israel than those in the rest of the country.

I can remember that she had a strong emotional investment in the disputed Ukrainian election two years ago. (Of course, people can be both Jewish and Ukrainian, so this doesn't automatically prove or disprove anything.) CJCurrie 20:14, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry. I did make one incorrect statement about chronological order (I missed "2005").

You are wrong about "no poll results being worthless". There is absolutely no perspective, proof of fairness or gauge of accuracy (MOE) to the stats provided in the 8/25 poll. For example, this "poll" could have been taken very informally by one biased reporter using only a very tiny group of his friends (all in the same race and socio-economic group) around the office. Who would know? Without the name of a respected polling firm attached to them to give them an "air of credibility", these stats are 100% worthless and should not be listed.

If you want to split up the "other" column to add Kilrea, be my guest. I had considered that myself.

It is important to know the full options available to those polled (for example, were the smaller candidates prompted as an option?). It affects all of the other percentages. Simplifying the symbols key at the bottom of the chart to make several things "—" results in things being too vague and, in a small but definite way, inaccurate. For example, a — under "other/non runners" could mean that we don't know the exact number or that the names were not prompted at all (which would certainly affect the percentages the other candidate's received).

Sorry, but I'm going to extra picky about any edits to this chart because; 1) I know something about polling, and 2) I was the one who created this chart and I took great effort to make it 100% accurate to each polls' question/responses.

I'll let you fix it up now if you want, but I'd suggest just using my original template and adding a Kilrea column and the one other Decima poll if you want. Wolfchild 06:05, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

I've made some changes to incorporate a Kilrea column and the Decima poll. Check it out. It's a bit busy, but it's also 100% accurate to the polling data which is more important.

I agree the other poll looks about right, but it still lacks any proof of accuracy or credibility. Sadly, unqualified numbers being printed in a newspaper means nothing these days as many reporters don't do their job properly. For example, the Toronto Star recently wrote about "the only male candidate" in a specific race when, in fact, 4 of the 7 already registered candidates were male. For all we know, this reporter was misquoting another poll that is already represented in this graph. There's a number of polls in the graph anyway, so one more isn't really needed to get a clear-ish picture of the race.

You are right about Toronto polls in that a graph showing 38 candidates would be impractical. However, as far as I know, the stats don't even exist to make such a graph. I've never seen a polling firm "prompt poll" all of the individual candidates in Toronto like some of them do for the smaller Ottawa mayoralty race. Wolfchild 19:21, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

I usually contribute to the Embrun, Ontario article, and the WikiProject: Wikiproject Prescott-Russell. I need your help because the WikiProject: Wikiproject Prescott-Russell, created an article called, Embrun Airport, and the Embrun Airport closed down a few years ago (obviously who ever created the article doesn't know that). Why can't we replace these images as we get pictures to replace them with? The point is that it's believed (and I agree) that the use of an unfree image in the article give editors less motivation to produce a free picture than the absence of images. I disagree. As Wikipedians, we are told to be bold, and so for a bold encyclopedia, and for a complete encyclopedia, we should have all of our MPs at least with pictures. Using an unfree image is not to be bold, it's to be lazy. These images should not stay. Wikipedia:Fair use criteria item #1 cleary says that such images are not acceptable. Problems with images

First of all, let me say thank you for providing public domain images for Jane Scharf and Larry O'Brien (businessman). I wish more Wikipedians would do what you did and request free images from subjects like this. It sometimes works! Thank you.

But there's a problem with some of the other photos you keep re-uploading. As you know, these photos were deleted in-process: someone tagged them with {{replaceable fair use}}, and after 7 days they were deleted by a different admin. You might disagree with the process, but they were deleted in process. General criterion #4 in Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion says that such re-uploads may be speedily deleted by any admin. I know you're an admin too, and the last thing I want is a wheel war. The appropriate way to deal with the situation would be for you to go to Wikipedia:Deletion review.

I know we disagree on our fair-use guidelines. A non-free photo of a living person, used to show what a person looks like on Wikipedia, is not allowed. The fact that no free replacement exists at present is not a reason to keep the non-free image -- this is according to FUC#1, FUC counterexample #8, Jimbo Wales, and the Wikimedia foundation. This isn't just my opinion; this is Wikipedia policy. If you disagree with it, you can try to change that policy. But we're admins. We should be above violating policies because we don't like them.

Lastly, I deeply resent being called an "image nazi". It's hurtful and offensive. Please remember: no personal attacks.

In the Eastern Ontario Portal, they state that Embrun has plans for an International Hockey School. The town did talk about it about 4 years ago or so, but no plans had been made, or anything like that. Where is their proof? Are they aloud to write that Embrun has plans, when they don't even know? I was wondering if you could look into that for me. Now you are my go-to guy.

I just want to say I think it's awful that these guys "Abu Badali" and "Quadell" think they can just go and quietly undo all your hard work. I'm not an admin and I don't really know about these things, but there must be some way to stop this from happening. Could we make a Request for Comment page on this issue? Then they might have to agree to a moratorium on deletions of your images while the discussion is ongoing. Census divisions of Ontario

Just wondering why you reverted Darren Lee's changing of Lambton's county seat to Plympton-Wyoming. Since Wyoming no longer exists, I wonder how it can still be the county seat. _└ ^OzLawyer / _talk ^┐ 16:21, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I'd also suggest the county seat for Haliburton, Ontario be changed from Minden to Minden Hills. The website for that township uses the terms interchangeably, with Minden being the commonly used name, Minden Hills being the proper name. I moved the article from Minden to Minden Hills. While I understand that for single-tier municipalities the place listed as the seat (if it even needs to be listed) has to be a local community since there are no other municipalities to name, in a county with several municipalities, a proper municipality should be listed. That the website of Lambton county says their offices are in Wyoming isn't evidence of the "officialness" of that place being the county seat (if there's even such a thing)—it is simply an internal designation of placement within Plympton-Wyoming. _└ ^OzLawyer / _talk ^┐ 16:48, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I think the opposite—I think an actual municipality should be listed since it's a real "something" whereas community names (and mailing addresses) are highly mutable (there are no proper boundaries for such places). As an example of why this should be, note that the Region of Peel's headquarters are located in the "Bramalea" part of Brampton (and most people in that area use "Bramalea" as their postal address—although, granted, I don't think the region itself uses "Bramalea" in its postal address), but you wouldn't think of changing the seat to Bramalea, would you? _└ ^OzLawyer / _talk ^┐ 17:06, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Proper sourcing does present somewhat of a problem, but at the same time, they're not actually claiming that "Wyoming" is the "seat" of Lambton county. They state that the address of the "Administration Building" is in Wyoming. The whole idea of a "seat" seems to be original research itself!

Hi

Recently you reverted my edits explaining how a number of images were not replacable and told me to follow proper guidelines. I then progressed to opening up a discussion on a talk page of one of the articles to open up debate. The image was then DELETED within 24 hours. This is incredibly sneaky, and frustrating for people like me who are trying to play by these new rules. I would reccomend that next time this happens you do not revert unless the person refuses to discuss the matter, because images (and their talk pages) could get deleted in the time it takes for a discussion to occur. We are trying to make Wikipedia a better place, but if actions such as these continue to happen, a lot of good hard working Wikipedians may become too frustrated to continue, at the projects integrity will suffer. Now I will have to go through all the trouble of re-uploading the images, and then having to debate them once again when one of you warn me about re-uploading deleted images! -- Earl Andrew - talk 19:14, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Just to let you know I've just tagged Image:Anettenorberg-sweden.jpg as replaceable. For what I can see, this is a picture of a group of living people. The images that were deleted were similar images. Here is why they are not replacable (including the one you just tagged as being so.) They are promotional images depicting the team for a past event. The event is in the past. We can no longer aquire images from a past event. Therefore they are not replacable. The image is being used for an article profiling this past event. We cannot replace the picture with a newer one, because it would not make sense to use a photo from 2006-07 for an event from 2005-06. We have already determined with Image:Bobrae-premier.jpg that photos of living persons from the past are not replacable. -- Earl Andrew - talk 19:27, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

All pictures show past events. What we need to take into account is what part of information contained in the picture is essential information to the article. If I recall correctly, these where images of athletes, just showing their faces. This is not an "event" in my interpretation of the word. Anyway, this is the kind of discussion we should have had in the image's talk page (instead of removing the tag), and now, this is the discussion we should have in WP:Deletion review, so that others could participate. --Abu Badali 19:40, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

I had opened a discussion, but the image was deleted before anyone could put any input in. That's the problem with the method that is being used, and is something I would like to see addressed. But anyways, these images are of curling teams, and curling teams change over time. Think of it this way. If we had a picture of the 1995-96 Ottawa Senators, would you put it up for deletion saying it was replacable? Certainly not! You cannot replace an image of a team from a past season.
