A little welcoming present!
[edit]The image wikipediatrix was referring to was this:
...As you can see it's kind of a goofy shot, to say the least.
The release of any Paul Stanley image from [1] would be of great help ([2] or [3] are perhaps the best candidates).
I'm really glad that a professional photographer like yourself has decided to contribute some of their work to the Wikipedia project. Procuring free-use images of musicians and celebrities is a royal pain in the butt for most of us and many articles are full of fair-use images that often infringe on copyright.
P.S. You seem to have the whole User talk: business well in hand, but if you encounter any trouble using Wikipedia, just add {{helpme}} to your talk page. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 00:06, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Helpme - images
[edit]{helpme} I have no clue how to start this page. I have also noticed at least twice images that I have added (to which I own copyright) that require attribution have been moved and the attribution dropped. Are there cases where the attribution required under {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} — Attribution-Sharealike 2.5 can simply be dropped?
- By "no clue how to start this page" do you mean your userpage? Wikipedia:User page may help in that case. Do you have an example of when the attribution is dropped for an image, I'm not sure what you mean? In Wikipedia attribution is given on the image description page (eg Image:DoobieBrothersCollage-1000.jpg), not in the captions in articles. Use {{helpme}} again (here, on your talk page) if that doesn't answer your question.--Commander Keane 01:09, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Aha, that explains the attribution issue ... I read the description to mean literally that use of the image, EVERY TIME, would contain the attribution. I will be more circumspect in what I contribute in the future. Thanks for the quick response. Dwightmccann 01:20, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Requiring attribution in the image caption is perfectly reasonable, there is nothing in Wikipedia image use policy that disallows it. Editors who are unaware of how image licensing and attribution works might have removed the photographer credit from the captions, but there is ample justification in reverting those changes.
- Also, Mr. McCann, I was hoping that I could convince you to continue to upload single images rather than collages. Since images on articles are thumbnailed, it is often difficult to discern the collage composition or identify individual band members. I would be more than happy to monitor individual articles to maintain proper attribution if that is the primary concern. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 00:02, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
- User:Anetode tagged the duplicate images for speedy deletion, and I have deleted them. I also notified User:Taekowndodogoof. About the attribution in captions thing, I stand by what I first said - in Wikipedia attribution is given on the image description page not the captions. The image use policy isn't a lawbook, but it may need to include this info if people are getting confused.--Commander Keane 01:47, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Image attribution
[edit]Hey there! Thanks for adding all those pictures to Wikipedia; uploading images is something few people do and even fewer people fully appreciate. However, I have removed image attribution from numerous articles using your pictures. The proper place for image attribution is in the image description page, not the articles where the images are used. Please read Wikipedia:Captions and Help:Image page for more information. If you have any questions about this style guideline, please let me know. Thanks! —BorgHunter (talk) 22:55, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
