Re: Kolkata
[edit]Being a FA, we cannot afford to have statements which doesn't have RS. If no citation are found on the net about sister city agreement, we will have to delete it. I will search for references either today night or tomorrow. Moreover, I have seen some problems with certain images, I think we have to replace them with other existing photos. 1)The Monsoon pic- the copyright status is unclear, 2)The Transport on VIP road - the photo is of smaller resolution and the meta data is missing 3)The Calcutta University pic - The pic overflows into the next section and the pic is not looking good visually, we have few new pics of Calcutta University, we can replace it. 4)If possible, we need to have a new pic of Calcutta Medical College, that is too old, the building have been painted in white and it looks good now. [edit]Another thing one must keep in mind, recently in 2011, the Kolkata Police area is now same as KMC area. The jurisdiction in Kolkata is so complicated, they should at least make a larger Kolkata Urban District with the area now under KMDA. Amartyabag TALK2ME 03:15, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Hyderabad, India
[edit]Hello, and thanks for your comments on the Hyderabad article's PR. I have addressed a few of those issues, and will patch up the others soon. Please take a look. Regarding the Telangana agitation, are three sentences enough for it? There has been a major involvement of political parties on the issue, but mentioning them is not going to improve the context of Telangana in any way. Second, regarding the population increase, do you feel its mandatory to list out the reasons for why the population expanded? I believe that it could be inferred from the rapid area expansion that this would naturally happen. The same applies for Bangalore. Hope that's it. Thanks again and regards. Requesting Opinion
[edit]I have recently moved the article Lokenath Brahmachari from Baba Lokenath Brahmachari to Lokenath Brhmachari. Baba is an honorific title and IMO totally unnecessary (it is like creating article with title "Savoir Jesus Christ". Still I request your opinion on this. Also, I am still not satisfied. I feel the spelling of the word should be Loknath and not Lokenath. And Brahmachari is an honorific title (surname) too. I have not made these changes since these may be sensitive issues. Since the last talk page entry was in 2006, I have not posted in Talk Page. I am seeking your views on this. --Tito Dutta (Send me a message) 08:13, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Re: newspaper location
[edit]Even I feel, we are making too much exceptions which will be hard to maintain consistency in the future. Its better to add location to all the newspaper and it should be the headquarters of the newspaper. There is a bot, RjwilsmiBot which can automatically add the location to newspapers. Make a request as per our needs there. Amartyabag TALK2ME 04:04, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
- I have checked the refs once again, and found the following inconsistency, "Noida, India" has been used 4 times for location of India Today, is there any special case to keep India with the location? As the name of the magazine is India Today, it is self evident that it will be from India, please remove it. FN 16, 88 and 89 are the same book, can we use the shorter form of the refs. Rest of the refs seems fine to me Amartyabag TALK2ME 02:17, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit]I wish to start an article on Ajit Bandopadhyay (Acharya Brahmananda in Goopy Bagha Phire Elo). But, there is already an article onn the same title for Ajit (Byomkesh's assistant). I have nominated the article Swami Vivekananda for GA status. This is my first GA nomination. Can you tell me how many days it takes to complete the review? Since you are not a regular editor of the article, can you review the article for GA status from neutral point of view? --Tito Dutta (Send me a message) 19:30, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
I first thought to make the change myself, but, since you are regular editor of Kolkata article, and you have edited this, so later changed mind. LInk of Ref 170 in Kolkata article seems to be wrong... is it? It was not your fault.. actually it is webmaster's fault.. in that website the page URL does not change when you click and enter new page's. You must press <Ctrl><Enter> and open the page in another tab to get the page's exact URL. You'll see the same problem in [http://www.ramakrishnavivekananda.info/vivekananda/volume_5/vol_5_frame.htm Vivekananda's complete work in Ramakirshna Vivekananda info (click on any other chapter but the URL will not change) --Tito Dutta (Send me a message) 21:58, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- Here is the correct URL of Ref 170! Is it? Apologies, I did not write it correctly in last answer- it should be- You must press <Ctrl><Click> and open the page in another tab to get the page's exact URL --Tito Dutta (Send me a message) 11:09, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
- And I am not very sure about the process, but, AFAIK, if you do too many edits in Vivekananda article, you'll be a regular contributor and will not be able to review later! --Tito Dutta (Send me a message) 11:17, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest
[edit]Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.
As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.
If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.
You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

File permission problem with File:KolkataMixedTraffic.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:KolkataMixedTraffic.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. [edit]If you dislike this, you can simply ignore it! |
I have noticed while leaving message to other users' talk pages, you edit the last section. So, the edit summary becomes like this - /*A previous message by someone*/Reply. It sends a wrong message to Watchlist, edit summary and talk page owner's email notification, since you are not actually replying to previous message, but you are creating a new section! I know clicking on "New section" at upper right corner of the page is a tiring work sometimes, specially if the user has a lengthy talk page. You can use <Home> and <End> button in keyboard to go to top and bottom of a page. In Talk page you can press <Alt><Shift><+> too to create a new section! --Tito Dutta (Send me a message) 07:15, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

Calcutta University colleges in the Kolkata article
[edit]Hi,
Thanks for your note. I agree it is pretty confusing. The fact that the university's website has not been edited since 2007 does not help. It lists all the current WBSU colleges in its fold. The Wikipedia template perhaps does a better job.
My point was simply this: in the article in Kolkata, is it really necessary to have all that information? If so, then to be fair, the number of colleges under WBUT, WBSU, IGNOU, NSOU, JU, Aliah U, Punjab Technical University -- that are located in the city should be mentioned as well -- just to be fair to all. If that is not feasible, then simply avoiding that information, is better. Merely mentioning the number of colleges without any hint of their academic standards is misleading to untrained eyes.

On the CU article
[edit]It needs many edits, I suppose. But seriously, how can one cite sources when the university's website borrows from the previous Wikipedia drafts. To give an example, I am not sure which came earlier, the Wikipedia list of "notable initiatives" or the "tradition of notable firsts" on the university's website. It needs good photographs and a nice dossier on the libraries, sports, residence halls, cultural depictions (like Jana Aranya, Kaalbela) and maybe, student politics. It would also need independent articles on the vice chancellors, chancellors and other notable faculty. I don't know if all this helps.

[edit]As you can see from my talk page, I"m trying to build interest once again in having a group work on CDI. I think the time has come for it to be pushed into an FA. I know you have many articles that you are working on so at best, could you just keep it on your watch list and keep an eye out for odds and ends as you are pretty good at that. This will take time as we need to really develop and expand and my time here is limited but if a group of people are working on it, then I think the article can grow. One point to keep in mind that I think is significant is how much the title song has developed a life of its own which is something the article can emphasize. -Classicfilms (talk) 16:08, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
