Shell Creek
[edit]Hi - thanks for writing Shell Creek - we've been needing that one for a while! :) I went ahead and moved it to Shell Creek - since there are no other Shell Creek articles in Wikipedia, we don't need the disambiguation. I really appreciate your work - thanks for helping the WikiProject Wyoming! - CosmicPenguin (Talk) 17:22, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- Also, just FYI, the {{WikiProject Wyoming}} tag should go on the Talk page, not the main page. Thanks! - CosmicPenguin (Talk) 17:31, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- Sure, we could merge this and Shell Canyon - it might out well, since I was wondering if there was enough content for two individual articles. We also need some pictures - there are lots of pictures on Flickr that are tagged with Creative Commons tags [1]; we just need to get them uploaded. I found a great picture of Copman's Tomb [2] and of Elephant Head Rock [3], but they are not freely distributable, I asked the author for permission, but I didn't hear back. - CosmicPenguin (Talk) 16:20, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Sheridan
[edit]Sorry for never getting back to you on the links: I'm a college student, and studies sometimes distract me — I have time for editing, but something came up and I forgot about it. You can see my reasoning at the article talk page.
By the way, when you leave a comment on a talk page, please leave it at the bottom, not at the top. Nyttend 15:11, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
Sheridan, Wyoming
[edit]Can you comment on a change made by Nyttend on the Sheridan, Wyoming article? I asked him what he meant by "excessive links"; but' he(she) has not responded.Thx DutchTower 03:24, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- I'll see if I can help. To further the Wikipedia goal of not being a directory, most editors use the external link guidelines to help determine which external links are suitable, and which are not. Specifically, we want to try to limit the external links to those articles that are best suited to teaching the reader more about the subject, while trying to keep away from commercial websites (for obvious reasons). The guideline I generally use is the first: Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article.. I don't want to speak for Nyttend, but that is probably their motivation as well. Looking at the links you have, I don't think the student handbook meets the criteria, at least for the Sheridan article - if there was an article on the school district, then it might fit. It seems that Normative Services is a private school - again, not really related to this article subject specifically. If the school is notable enough, then they would have their own article, and the link would be suitable for that. Same with the third link. All that said, I wouldn't have a problem with a list of the schools, especially if you are intending to make articles for them. having a section that says "Sheridan is serviced by the Sheridan County School District #2 as well as several private schools" is perfectly legitimate. The Holy Name parish may be suitable if the building was historic, or if it had some notability on its own, but we particularly don't want to be in the business of being a religious directory. If we leave this one in, then we can't exclude anybody, and any community of any size would have dozens of different churches and - it would be difficult to maintain. We do have a Roman Catholic Diocese of Cheyenne article - perhaps you could mention the Holy Name parish there (with the caveat that somebody will probably ask you to add the other hundred or so parishes in the state.. :)). Hopefully this helps. I'll go ahead and fix up the article. Thanks. - CosmicPenguin (Talk) 15:14, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
More Sheridan
[edit]Good job on finding Wikipedia:Embedded list, a page that I've never seen before. If you look at virtually any article on municipalities nationwide, the notable people will be given in a list: it's like on the Embedded list page, in the bottom comparison box — they're a lot of little bits of information, just the names and a short explanation of who they are. Sorry that I can't answer the Wales question: I don't know what that was. Would you please give me a link for that? Thanks! Nyttend 03:05, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I'm often busy, and I don't get around to cleaning everything that I think needs to be cleaned. I simply took out the thing that I noticed without thinking of the other visitors. I'm not sure whether "notable visitors" is an appropriate section: surely it wouldn't be done for a big city, such as New York! Perhaps the verifiable visits should be moved to their own little bits of the History section, and the rest deleted? Nyttend 15:23, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry that I can't offer any suggestions for your question. What do you mean? To me, the text plainly seems to say two of each. Perhaps you'd do best to change it how you think best and ask me then, or if you'd rather discuss more before adding it, write your idea and copy it onto my talk page. I'm sorry I can't help at the moment, but I'll do my best once I understand the situation. Nyttend 19:02, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
- Aha...I read that paragraph, but didn't find it confusing. I guess if you're confused, that means it needs to be changed :-) Perhaps we could simply give the names of the middle and high schools: "two junior (or middle) schools — [school 1 name] and [school 2 name] — and two high schools — [school 1 name] and [school 2 name]." If we give the names, it should be obvious that the references to McKenzie and Wright Place aren't references to two other schools. Nyttend 13:35, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Shell Creek
[edit]It shouldn't be part of Montana. Thanks for catching the error. I think in the process of tagging the articles relevant to Category:Rivers of Montana, I probably hit the wrong link back in one case and landed in Category:Rivers of Wyoming in an article which was included in both. I'm removing the banner now, and I'm also going to review the other articles to see if they may have been mistagged as well. John Carter 14:25, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:Allen True Corn Dancers.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Allen True Corn Dancers.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILYsock(TALK) 05:30, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Allen True Exhibit Poster.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Allen True Exhibit Poster.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILYsock(TALK) 05:31, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
License tagging for File:Corn Dancers1.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Corn Dancers1.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 00:05, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:WY Homesteaders.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:WY Homesteaders.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

2019 US Banknote Contest
[edit]US Banknote Contest | ||
---|---|---|
November-December 2019 | ||
There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here |

The file File:Sheridan WY main1912.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
unused, low-res, no obvious use
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
