Welcome
[edit]Hello Dsides12 and welcome to Wikipedia! We appreciate encyclopedic contributions, but some of your contributions, such as the ones to 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification, do not conform to our policies. For more information on this, see Wikipedia's policies on vandalism and limits on acceptable additions. If you'd like to experiment with the wiki's syntax, please do so in the sandbox rather than in articles.
If you still have questions, there is a new contributors' help page, or you can to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. You may also find the following pages useful for a general introduction to Wikipedia.
I hope you enjoy editing and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~
); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Feel free to write a note on the bottom of my talk page if you want to get in touch with me. Again, welcome! Qed237 (talk) 08:49, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
Era styles
[edit]Hi. You've been reverted because your edit was against our guideline at WP:ERA. Please read it and follow it in the future. Thanks. Doug Weller talk 12:22, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
So I see you follow the idiocy of PC. Dates are BC and AD....anything else is just BS revsionistism. I'm not religious person, but using "common era" is just PC stupidity.Dsides12 (talk) 21:19, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

[edit]{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
. DDStretch (talk) 21:44, 4 October 2017 (UTC)So I see the wikipedia doesn't follow historians and instead goes with politically nonsense of making dates "common era" and if someone doesn't fall in line the are blocked for being "disruptive". Guess fascism isn't just in the white house.Dsides12 (talk) 00:53, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
- I'll assume you are just being angry, rather than taking that as a coolly-considered allegation of fascism. Please consider, after your block ends, taking your wrangle over the depiction of eras to the proper discussion channels (on the talk page of WP:ERA, perhaps) rather than failing to abide by established practices concerning discussions and engaging in the beginnings of an edit-war. Please, edit-warring, failing to engage in discussions, then making comments about "political correctness" and fascism do little to strengthen your case. Assemble the arguments you feel are best persuasive, rather than insulting, and try your best in the proper channels. Good luck. DDStretch (talk) 07:55, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
BC and AD are the traditional ways of designating eras. BCE and CE are common in some scholarly texts and in certain topic areas. Either convention may be appropriate for use in Wikipedia articles.
So if both are appropriate, then why the block? You can't even follow your own rules.Dsides12 (talk) 17:23, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
I draw your attention to the following point, in WP:ERA which you have conveniently overlooked: "Do not change the established era style in an article unless there are reasons specific to its content. Seek consensus on the talk page before making the change. Open the discussion under a subhead that uses the word "era". Briefly state why the style is inappropriate for the article in question. A personal or categorical preference for one era style over the other is not justification for making a change." You didn't follow those rules, and, what's more, you ignored the guidelines specified in WP:BRD. Now, please stop trying to inflame matters by your, frankly, ill-tempered comments about the matter. @User:Doug Weller has also made similar coments to mine. Just follow the rules, and all will be well. DDStretch (talk) 18:11, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

I changed the North Carolina Courage founding year and joining year to reflect reality. The Courage were NOT founded in 2016 and did NOT join the league in 2017. Only someone who doesn't know the league would think that. The Courage is the Western New York Flash, but relocated and renamed. If you would have taken half a second to actually look at the Courage page you would see they were founded in 2009 as the Buffalo Flash and were a founding member of the NWSL in 2013. To say the Western New York Flash is a former team is just wrong and ignorant. That would be like saying, in the NFL, the Tennessee Titans joined the NFL in 1997. That would of course be wrong, as they were founded in 1960. Just because you don't know the history, doesn't mean it's wrong. Dsides12 (talk) 17:32, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Someone who doesn't know the team or the league and who clicks on the North Carolina Courage link will go to the team page and see that they were founded in 2009 as the Buffalo Flash. By you putting up incorrect information of the league site, will cause those people to be confused. My edit is correct and reflects the true history of the club. - I'm sorry, but we'll need reliable sources confirming that information. Huon (talk) 18:51, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
It's from the Akron Beacon Journal newspaper in Akron, Ohio. https://www.ohio.com/akron/sports/racers/professional-softball-racers-set-to-become-cleveland-comets-owner-craig-stout-hopes-to-have-games-at-firestone-stadium-hires-stephen-dunn-as-general-managerDsides12 (talk) 19:53, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
- Reading that source, the issue seems somewhat intricate. I'll comment on the article's talk page so others interested in the topic can weigh in. Huon (talk) 20:22, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
ARRRRRGGG!!!! I'm trying to get the URL sited in correctly for the new Houston Dynamo jersey sponsor and am failing miserably. The Dynamo team site posted at https://www.houstondynamo.com/post/2018/11/28/md-anderson-houston-dynamo-team-one-goal-end-cancer
Major League Soccer posted it here: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018/11/28/houston-dynamo-ink-unique-partnership-md-anderson-cancer-center

- So I see that facts and reality are unconstructive now? What is this, an arm of Trump and his alternative fax machine?Dsides12 (talk) 08:47, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
- That's not what I said. Discussing/determining the facts is constructive behavior. However, repeatedly making the same change to the article after multiple editors have reverted it is not constructive. When there is a dispute, it should be resolved coolly with talk page discussion, not with edit warring. Again, I recommend you take a look at Wikipedia's policy for dispute resolution. –IagoQnsi (talk) 22:13, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

- I have tried being civil, but when someone is making obvious malicious changes to the page, one must do what is necessary to stop it. I'm a history guy with sports history being at the to of the list. I operate a sports history site. Not only did I present to Bilaxx articles from the Austin paper and from Major League Soccer detailing the moves of the franchise from Austin to Orlando to Louisville, but even pointed out the Austin Aztex FC and Orlando City SC wikipedia pages state the same as I do---with a source in them as well. He hasn't the ability to admit when wrong and insisted on reverting back to obvious erroneous information that is not only misleading to readers who don't know the real story, but damaging to the credibility of wikipedia to those who do know the information first hand, like I do. I was living in Austin when the team came about and was an avid supporter up until they left town for Orlando. Some of the editors (I think there were two others besides him), I don't think looked at the entire discussion and were still asking for sources of proof even after I provided them. The start year for the team is on the page and is correct. The join year is, of course, not as the 2008 was the join year to the league that would eventually rename itself after mergers the USL in 2011. I've given up trying to convince these folks that when a league changes names, the new name isn't a new league. It's the same league. The USL began in 1986 as the Southwest Indoor Soccer League and added it's outdoor league in 1989 as the Southwest Outdoor Soccer League. There were mergers between the Western Soccer Alliance, American Soccer League, American Professional Soccer League (WSA-ASL merger), which renamed itself the A-League, only to merge again with the United System of Independent Soccer Leagues to only then split into Select League and D3 Pro League---then rename into United Soccer Leagues First Division and Second Division, only to totally reform and come back together in 2011 as the USL. I've been following all these moves, first as a fan and then as a journalist since 1995. I am fully confident that I know more than just about anyone when it comes to lower level sports. When people who don't really know what they are talking about continue to push their false narrative and continue to make egregious errors in reporting through ignorant edits, it's insulting to me and those who have followed and covered the many facets of minor league soccer over the past 20-plus years.Dsides12 (talk) 01:20, 30 November 2018 (UTC)
