Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Information icon Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to 1956–1957 exodus and expulsions from Egypt—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. Thanks. Thank you for your edits. But you should fill the edit summary and follow the date format set for the page. Hope you'll follow these rules in your future edits. In addition, when you change something in a page, you must change it in all related parts. So some of your edits will be modified. Egeymi (talk) 03:55, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Minor edits

[edit]

Hi, You have been marking most of your edits as "minor" but they are not minor. Please read Help:minor edit. Any edit adding substantive content, or any edit worthy of being reviewed by other editors, is not minor. Zerotalk 00:52, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. My bad Drsmartypants(Smarty M.D) (talk) 00:53, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Please note the "Additionally you must..." requirements in particular. Since you do not have the extendedconfirmed permission (granted automatically at 500 edits and 30 days' tenure), you may not edit pages such as International reactions to the 2023 Israel–Hamas war. This also applies to some of the edits you've made to Relations between Nazi Germany and the Arab world. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 17:42, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Does this mean I can't edit Relations between Nazi Germany and the Arab world? That's not an extended page Drsmartypants(Smarty M.D) (talk) 17:57, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The extendedconfirmed restriction replies to all pages on Wikipedia, other than your userspace, and with a limited exception for constructive talkpage posts, regardless of whether the page is extendedconfirmed-protected. For parts of that article that have nothing to do with the Arab-Israeli conflict, e.g. Nazi persecution of Arabs, editing those parts shouldn't be an issue. But any part that has anything to do with Jews, Israel, or Zionism, I would say is off-limits. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 18:05, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Drsmartypants(Smarty M.D). You added a reference for "Gershoni & Israel, p. 95" to Egypt in World War II, should this be "Gershoni 2010, p. 95" (e.g Confronting Fascism in Egypt: Dictatorship versus Democracy in the 1930s)? -- LCU ActivelyDisinterested transmissions °co-ords° 17:23, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Thank you Drsmartypants(Smarty M.D) (talk) 17:23, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Drsmartypants(Smarty M.D), I've updated the reference. -- LCU ActivelyDisinterested transmissions °co-ords° 17:26, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:56, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Relations between Nazi Germany and the Arab world- could you rewrite your additions?

[edit]

You recent edit on Relations between Nazi Germany and the Arab world has sentences that are much too similar to the source material. You can see the comparison here. Could you read the guidelines I've linked you, then rewrite your additions? Otherwise I (or somebody else) will have to remove them. Thanks, and happy editing!
