At the turn of the christian era, Vokkaligas inhabited the region of Gangavadi and Kongu Nadu. During 10th Century, when the Cholas captured Kongu Nadu, a large part of the Vokkaligas living in Kongu Nadu moved to Gangavadi. The Morasu Vokkaligas who dominated the Bangalore and Kolar districts (also Hosur and Krishnagiri districts) had worked as chieftains to the east up to Kanchi and North up to the Godhavari. One of the families who was working as a chieftain in Kanchi was the ancestor of Kempegowda. When another Chieftain of Tamil Nadu wanted his daughter's hand in marriage, they fled Kanchi and came Back to Morasu Nadu around fourteenth century. This is the story of the Return migration of one of the families of Morasu Vokkalu Community.
In Fact according to Edgar Thurston, the Vokkaligas ruled Kongu Nadu from 1st to 10th century. there were 27 kings of whome, the first 7 were reddi and the later 21 were Gangas.
