Youtube

[edit]

Hi Dresian. Welcome to Wikipedia. I'm sorry to tell you that I reverted your edits where you added youtube pages in the external links (The Byrds and The Beatles) as per WP:ELNEVER. Most of the videos uploaded in youtube are not owned by the users (uploaders), they are violating the copyrights. So in wikipedia we do not add youtube links in the external links unless it's hosted by the company itself. If you have further questions about this, please don't hesitate to ask. I hope you enjoy editing in here. Have a great day! ~ Elitropia (talk) 10:05, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The artist feature in YouTube is new. It seems to be more carefully curated than simple channels. I will see if I can find out anything more specific about it.--Dresian (talk) 10:21, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Now I will only talk about The Byrds and The Beatles. I checked the artist page links you provided and the videos listed there were uploaded by the youtube users who are already violating the copyrights. What I can tell, for example a Byrds video hosted by the owner company itself in youtube can be linked here since they own the copyrights and upload the video. But sure, look for it more and if I'm wrong add back the links to the pages I reverted. Also here in WP:YT you can see more information about it. From the page "Many videos hosted on YouTube or similar sites do not meet the standards for inclusion in External links sections". A very delicate situation here : ) ~ Elitropia (talk) 10:32, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Edit: I just found this, you might want to see; Youtube. ~ Elitropia (talk) 10:39, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Unlike Wikipedia, YouTube is making progress in the area of working with artists. For instance, if you look at the page for Tori Amos ( artist id = GxdCwVVULXfqLRmFJYbeipjHvFhBA07s ) you will see that they link over to the VEVO channel. The one for Arlo Guthrie ( arist id = GxdCwVVULXfJK3xsRYhvpRCTXFzuhNQx ) even lists upcoming events for him. Many of these associated playlists are maintained either by VEVO or by the "YouTube" account at http://www.youtube.com/user/YouTube .--Dresian (talk) 10:53, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have reverted all the Youtube links to copyrighted material and Unofficial pages.Moxy (talk) 07:26, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've had to revert them out once again; Dresian, please participate in the discussion and avoid restoring the links until said discussion is resolved. Thanks. --Ckatzchatspy 05:01, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Led Zeppelin. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. You cannot spam this link: YouTube has copyrighted material that we cannot use. See WP:ELNEVER. Please stop adding these links. Thank you. Doc talk 09:11, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your name has been mentioned in connection with a sockpuppetry case. Please refer to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dresian for evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to cases before editing the evidence page. Voceditenore (talk) 08:07, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 22:17, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
