Minor edits

Hello there!

I think I speak for some other fellow Wikipedians when I ask that you be more conservative with marking your edits as minor. Many of the edits you marked as minor were not, and actually included adding or removing whole citations. When viewing a list of edits on a user's Watchlist or on the history of a page, minor edits can be filtered out, which lowers the chances other Wikipedians will see your edits and be able to verify them or help to add more information. Age of institutions

I see you have been converting lots of museums and related organizations' start-dates from a date to a date+age. According to the documentation for them, their examples often only use the date, and some have had extensive discussions and consensus to do it that way. I do agree that seeing the "XX years ago" could be worthwhile, but it's probably a good idea to check and make sure you have consensus before doing something other than their recommendeded uses. Question about disambiguation

Hi Dr. Van Nostrand, I have a question about the disambiguation from Pirg, the Albanian village, to Public Interest Research Group. Here's what it says:

For the US environmental lobbying group PIRG, see Public Interest Research Group.

This is not exactly accurate, especially since the page has been improved and the initial description of the organization changed. But in reading about WP:disambiguation, I find no direction about how to change the text. I do not see where I would make the request, or how long the description should be. So I am asking for your guidance.

Here is what I would suggest as a better descriptor; the second I believe is more accurate but seems long for a disambiguation description:

"For the U.S. non-profit group PIRG, see" or "For the U.S. non-profit organizing and advocacy group PIRG, see" Please advise if you can, and thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. DanDavidCook (talk) 18:15, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors December 2020 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the December GOCE newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since September 2020.                  Current and upcoming events Election time: our end-of-year Election of Coordinators opened for nominations on 1 December and will close on 15 December at 23:59 (UTC). Voting opens at 00:01 the following day and will continue until 31 December at 23:59, just before Auld Lang Syne. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. Spacing edits

Please do not make edits whose only purpose is to remove double spaces, as you did here. Per MOS:DOUBLESPACE, double spaces after full-stops render exactly the same as single spaces, so removing them does not change the reader experience. Meanwhile, many editors prefer them because they make scanning text slightly easier, and the edits themselves are pointless watchlist clutter. Thanks, JBL (talk) 16:43, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

Dhtwiki, Miniapolis and Tenryuu continued on as long-standing assistant coordinators. January Drive: Of the 22 editors who signed up, 16 editors claimed 146 copy edits including 45 requests. (details) February Blitz: This one-week effort focused on requests and a theme of Africa and African diaspora history. Of the 12 editors who signed up, 6 editors recorded 21 copy edits, including 4 requests. (details) March Drive: Of the 28 editors who signed up, 18 claimed 116 copy edits including 25 requests. Fort Belvoir

Hi, I've just been going through and resolving recently added "by whom" tags and one came up at Fort Belvoir. Your edit was followed by an IP which tagged the phrase "has been criticised" in the naming controversy section. You don't happen to have access to the Washington Post article which supports that sentence do you? I was wondering what language it uses re the Fort, to see if the statement needs attributing to an individual or collective or whether the tag should just be removed. I can't see it myself due to the paywall.

Thanks for resolving all of the "by whom" tabs. Below is the Washington Post article cited in the Fort Belvoir sentence. It does not cite an individual who requested the name change, but looking at other parts of the article, was criticized collectively as a society after the George Floyd protests and petitions in 2020 to rename army bases with Confederate names. In 2021, the United States Congress created the Naming Commission, a United States government commission, to rename military assets that have names associated with the Confederacy. There are other articles that include this information, which perhaps could be added as a citation.

Ty Seidule is a retired U.S. Army brigadier general and professor emeritus of history at West Point. He is the author of the forthcoming book “Robert E. Lee and Me: A Southerner’s Reckoning with the Myth of the Lost Cause.

Ten Army posts named during World Wars I and II honor men who fought for the Confederate States of America against the United States of America. These men committed treason to create a country dedicated to human enslavement. The posts must be renamed — as should another, in Virginia, given what its name honors.

But whom should the Army honor?

Fort Belvoir (Va.) to Fort Grant

Who is Belvoir? Trick question. The answer is not a who but a what. Belvoir was the name of a slave plantation owned by a British loyalist. It burned to the ground in 1783. Few people realize that the post was called Camp A.A. Humphreys, for a Union general, until 1935. The fort is located only 15 miles south of the White House, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered the change to appease Rep. Howard W. Smith (D-Va.), an avowed white supremacist. This name should be changed to Fort Grant, after Ulysses S. Grant, the finest officer to ever wear a U.S. Army uniform."

I think that for our purposes we are probably ok just to put it in as "has been criticised", given the WP article mentions various groups and individuals of rather diverse perspectives. ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Blitz: Our October Copy Editing Blitz focused on July and August 2022 request months; and articles tagged for c/e in December 2021 and January 2022. Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit that you made to User talk:142.26.99.42 has been reverted or removed because it was a misuse of a warning or blocking template. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. As per WikiProject User Warnings, "The user must be given a chance to see, and react to, each warning given." WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Don't forget that you can unsubscribe at any time; see below. Election news: The Guild needs coordinators! If you'd like to help out, you may nominate yourself or any suitable editor—with their permission—for the Election of Coordinators for the first half of 2024. Nominations will close at 23:59 on 15 December (UTC). Voting begins immediately after the close of nominations and closes at 23:59 on 31 December. All editors in good standing (not under current sanctions) are eligible, and self-nominations are welcome. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term that ends at 23:59 on 30 June. Drive: Of the 69 editors who signed up for the September Backlog Elimination Drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Between them, they copy-edited 661,214 words in 290 articles. Barnstars awarded are listed here. Blitz: Of the 22 editors who signed up for the October Copy Editing Blitz, 13 copy-edited at least one article. Between them, they copy-edited 109,327 words in 52 articles. Barnstars awarded are listed here. Drive: During the November Backlog Elimination Drive, 38 of the 58 editors who signed up copy-edited at least one article. Between them, they copy-edited 458,620 words in 234 articles. Election results: In our December 2023 coordinator election, Zippybonzo stepped down as coordinator; we thank them for their service. Incumbents Dhtwiki and Miniapolis were reelected coordinators, and Wracking was newly elected coordinator, to serve through 30 June. Nominations for our mid-year Election of Coordinators will open on 1 June (UTC). Drive: 46 editors signed up for our January Backlog Elimination Drive, 32 of whom claimed at least one copy-edit. Between them, they copy-edited 289 articles totaling 626,729 words. Barnstars awarded are here. Blitz: 23 editors signed up for our February Copy Editing Blitz. 18 claimed at least one copy-edit and between them, they copy-edited 100,293 words in 32 articles. Barnstars awarded are here.
