Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Dovaleh, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as Keep Pokes & Chive On, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's content protocols, and may not be retained. In short, the topic of an article must be notable and have already been the subject of publication by reliable and independent sources.

Please review Your first article for an overview of the article creation process. The Article Wizard is available to help you create an article, where it will be reviewed and considered for publication. For information on how to request a new article that can be created by someone else, see Requested articles. If you are struck, come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can help you thru the processes.

New to Wikipedia? Please consider taking a look at the our introductory tutorial or reviewing the contributing to Wikipedia page to learn the basics about editing. Below are a few other good pages about article creation.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions ask me on my talk page or you can just type {{help me}} on this page, followed by your question, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Keep Pokes & Chive On requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ~Amkgp 00:25, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Dov Markowich

[edit]

Hello Dovaleh,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Dov Markowich for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Hi Fancy Refrigerator,
I am so new to this world of Wikipedia page / article creations, please forgive me for making errors. I am Dov Markowich and I was attempting to create a page for myself as I have been mentioned twice on the 2022 World Series of Poker results Wikipedia page under Event #25 and Event #76 for my 2 notable achievements of final table appearances at the 2022 World Series of Poker. I noticed that some of the other players at my table had their own Wikipedia page without any issues, so I figured it would be ok if I had my own as well. There was / is no intent on being disruptive on Wikipedia, I'm just learning how to navigate through this whole process. I have gotten "blocked" by doing so along the way. I would also like to mention as I did earlier, I am not being compensated directly / indirectly by any means - this page is to showcase and highlight this achievement that Wikipedia has acknowledged as well by having my name listed on the previously referenced link. I would still like to continue having this page created, and will remove any content that doesn't appear to sit well with the Wikipedia community. Please advise (if you can) on how I can proceed. Thank you, Dov Dovaleh (talk) 20:32, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dovaleh. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Dov Markowich, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Dovaleh. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Dovaleh|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Fancy Refrigerator (talk) 17:02, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fancy Refrigerator, I am not being paid, I am not, being indirectly compensated, I am not being directly compensated, in any which way for the submission of the page that I had created. I am not and will not be receiving any form of compensation, directly or indirectly for the submission of the page that I had created. Dovaleh (talk) 17:56, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I created this page to showcase my poker results just like other poker players have been referenced to their own pages. For example, on the 2022 World Series of Poker results Wikipedia page, Event #76, in this table/chart of the Final Table, two other players have their own bio's there. I am referenced twice in Wikipedia for my poker results on this page for Event #25 and Event #76 for making 2 Final Tables at the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP). A very difficult feat to do, let alone a month apart from each other. These 2 results can be verified on WSOP.com's official webpage - Dov Markowich WSOP Official Results. I'd like to have my profile there as well to showcase other previous results as well as future results just like the other players that were referenced in the same category as me and have been allowed to have a Wikipedia article.

Decline reason:

Wikipedia isn't the place to promote yourself. See WP:COI and WP:PROMO. Yamla (talk) 21:25, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Dovaleh, do not e-mail me again.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:52, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how this system works or the etiquette here, but I'm trying to post something that is factual that is already published on Wikipedia and you go on and just block me for trying to contribute to this community instead of being helpful in trying to allow others such as myself be helpful. Good on you! Dovaleh (talk) 20:55, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Dovaleh, I received your email. Per Wikipedia's policies on conflicts of interest, it is generally frowned upon to write an article about yourself, even if you can provide evidence to demonstrate that you are notable. As such, unless you commit to not writing an article about yourself, you will most likely not be unblocked. If you have evidence that you are covered substantially in multiple, independent reliable, third party sources and that you would meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability, then you could bring that to Wikipedia's system for creating articles and the editors there may be able to help. Just being listed on another Wikipedia page, however, is not sufficient; in fact, many lists are created explicitly to collate information on multiple subjects that individually may not meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. Doing a quick search, I don't see the type of coverage that would meet the criteria, but you may have offline resources or other sources that I did not see. Barring that, however, it is not possible to have an independent page on the project. It is best, however, to provide any evidence that you may have on-wiki, rather than by email or other off-wiki means. Canadian Paul 01:52, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Canadian Paul, Really appreciate your time and response for addressing and educating me more on this as I was not aware prior to my article submission. As you can see (if you can), I have been a registered memeber here since 2008 and have not come across this issue prior to. I do commit to not writing any articles about myself in addition to article without support and merit. These were not my intentions to do so originally and was trying to convey that after the fact only to receive such backlash. In response to sources, there are news blogs and official tournament information (wsop.com) that do source / support my mention in that Wikipedia page displaying my results, in addition to other credible sources as well - happy to provide at yours (or anyone's) request. Again, thank you for your time and for clarifying. I wish this had been addressed more clearly initially. Dov Dovaleh (talk) 16:22, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

To whom it may concern, It has been a full year since my account was blocked and I am writing to have my account re-reviewed to be unblocked. I have been a user on Wikipedia since 2008 and have made some minor edits/contributions to pages that had errors and/or missing information in addition to donating financially to the foundation. With regards to the creation of my own page, I had created it due to my name being referenced twice on a pre-existing page on Wikipedia - 2022 World Series of Poker. Information of my results are posted on that page and they are sourced on the Official World Series of Poker page (WSOP.com) as well as PokerNews.com and other Poker blogs. There were other players that had links to their own Wikipedia page, so I thought it would be helpful by adding information about myself like the other players. I had never created a Wikipedia page before and I wasn't aware that I wasn't allowed to do so for my own name, let alone the limitations of the information I could and couldn't provide. I thought I was being helpful by doing so, but again, I didn't know. I did not do this with the "intent" of self-promotion, I just wasn't aware. This was an honest mistake and I am now aware of this. If re-considered, I can assure that this mistake will never happen again.Dovaleh (talk) 00:59, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

I am going to interpret the lack of comment by the blocking admin as acquiesence to unblocking you as discussed. Good luck. 331dot (talk) 08:57, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Since you seem to be saying you won't edit about yourself again, what edits do you intend to make instead? I would add- while as an editor I thank you for donating, donations are collected by the Foundation to support their operations, we editors have nothing to do with it, and donating or not donating has no impact on matters like this. 331dot (talk) 07:47, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @331dot, Thank you for your reply and your time. The only edits I would most likely see myself making would be if I had come across minor inaccuracies, spelling/grammar and/or broken links - which I have seen several times during my course as a user of Wikipedia. With respect to mentioning me donating to the foundation, the intent of that was to display, that in addition to the above, the combination of the two are my way of showing my support and contribution to this community. It wasn't meant to put a spotlight on the financial aspect, it was the appreciation of the existence of Wikipedia. As previously mentioned, this was sincerely an honest mistake and I have educated myself on my previous errors. I meant no harm or disrespect to volunteers that assist with contributing to this site. I thank you again for your time. Dovaleh (talk) 23:38, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I received your email. The reply function does not always work on posts at the bottom(one of several imperfections with it, but I digress) but instead you can click "edit" at the top of the page or in the section header to open the edit window. (I'm assuming you are using Desktop mode in a browser, and not the app or mobile version(which are not fully functional compared to the desktop mode)
To answer your main question, we don't really have a space to solicit editors to write for you. There is Requested Articles but it is backlogged to the point of uselessness and I don't recommend it. You're free to go out on your own and find or hire someone to do so- but be wary, as those offering Wikipedia editing services have varying reputability, and many are scams(also see WP:SCAM). They cannot promise you a thing(such as writing an article that will not be deleted).
You also seem to think that getting someone to edit for you would remove the conflict of interest- that is not true, it would just transfer the conflict of interest to that person who would still need to declare it. If you hire someone, they would be required by the Wikipedia Terms of Use to make a formal disclosure that they were hired.
Bbb23; as the user has said they will not edit about themselves, what are your feelings here? 331dot (talk) 08:06, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @331dotthank you again for your reply. You are correct. I am using a desktop to navigate through this page. I'd also like to correct for the record, that with regards to the sensitive subject that I had mentioned to you, it was meant to be written about the subject itself - not myself. I also do not wish to any hire anyone to write about me as I completely understand and I agree with you that it would be a conflict of interest and I and do not wish to partake in anything that involves being in a conflict of interest or anything that violates Wikipedia's set rules / guidelines.
As @Bbb23 was the admin that originally blocked me, I will direct this portion of my reply to them. As previously stated, I was unaware of all of this at the time when I did post that page as I had never posted about myself prior to. I have been a member of this community since February 27, 2008 and have never shown any act, intent, or reason to suggest that I am spamming or self-promoting since and prior to that one incident (my account activity history shows this). This was 100% an honest mistake and I am owning that mistake. I will also add, publicly in writing, that this will never happen again. If it does, which it won't, you are more than welcome to ban me from this whole site altogether. I am not a disruptive member, and I don't seek conflict. I was just unaware of this at the time which was an honest mistake on my part. Dovaleh (talk) 18:32, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @331dot, just wanted to follow up with this. Not sure if @Bbb23 saw or had a chance to see this? Dovaleh (talk) 07:03, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just FYI, the Reply feature is imperfect and only useful in some situations, and doesn't always work when replying to posts at the bottom of a page or section. When that happens, you can click "edit" as an alternative (either at the top or in the section header, at least in the desktop mode) 331dot (talk) 17:46, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. Thank you again! -- The Reply button worked in this case. Dovaleh (talk) 17:50, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
