Thyamine
[edit]Howdy, I noticed your edits on the page Thyamine. If you created the page by accident (it happens to all of us now and again), you can request deletion by adding the tag {{deletebecause|Misspelling of page title}} to the top. This puts in a nomination for speedy deletion. If thyamine is an alternate spelling or a common mispelling, you can make it a Wikipedia:Redirect page (see the link for details). Feel free to contact me on my talk page if I can be of any help. Thanks for the work on Wikipedia! --Hansnesse 05:55, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
- Updated to add, while I was writing, it looks like someone else created the redirect. --Hansnesse 05:57, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks!
[edit]Thanks! I'm still quite new with Wikipedia features... I don't even know how to pronounce the word properly! Dooga 01:22, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- Howdy, it looks like I may have been remiss in my welcoming duties... The usual welcome template is
Welcome!
Hello, Dooga, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}}
on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!
- Usually it is a "learn as you go" kind of process. Everyone makes some mistakes, and people expect that, so don't worry about it. Be, WP:Bold. You can start with Wikipedia:Introduction for the nuts and bolts of editing, but no one gets everyting perfect the first time around. Don't worry about making technical mistakes: they are always correctable. You are always welcome to ask questions of other people, if you don't know how to do something too. My talk page is always open, but often the quickest way is on Wikipedia:Help desk.
- In addition to the technical side of editing, there are a host of policy pages at Wikipedia:List of policies and guidelines, although they don't reflect the totality of what is usually practiced. These usually come into play on more complicated issues (how to resolve disputes over content, for instance). I probably wouldn't bother with more than a quick glance over them, (for instance, at Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset).
- Thanks for the work on Wikipedia (I don't know how to pronounce it properly either). --Hansnesse 01:49, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

New Westminster-school-stub
[edit]Hi - it has come to our notice that you have recently created a new stub type. As it clearly states at WP:STUB, at the top of most stub categories, on the template page for new Wikiprojects and in many other places on Wikipedia, new stub types should be proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and whether better use could be made of a WikiProject-specific talk page template.
In the case of your new stub type, it is already covered by existing stub types, it is not named according to stub naming guidelines, and the chances of it reaching the 60 stubs necessary for a new stub type are frankly pretty slim. Your new stub type is currently listed for deletion at WP:SFD - feel free to mak any comments there as to reasons it should not be deleted. And please, in future, propose new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 07:35, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hi again - well it's a guideline not a hard and fast policy, but it does make it a lot easier to keep track of things. Even now there are about 4000 different types of stub template - a huge number to keep track of - which is why its useful to have discussion before any new ones are made. look at it this way - there aren't so many stubs on schools in BC that finding the New Westminster schools in their category is going to be a problem to editors, and if every city the size of New Westminster around the world had its own school stub template, how many templates would we be trying to keep track of? It's certainly nothing personal against NW. Grutness...wha? 00:39, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Motto of the day
[edit]Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.
When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.
If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:41, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
International Baccalaureate Page
[edit]Hi Dooga,
On this page a section has become orphaned (perhaps due to the page move or perhaps because of previous editing or perhaps because I'm delusional and can't use history properly). It contains an unsigned section (completely unsigned so I suspect it has been beheaded) with a response by me and by you. As this is about the Diploma Programme and not the IB I am deleting it. It makes no sense in its currently place. I am unwilling to move it to the Diploma Programme as it cannot be attributed to anyone and I am unsure whether this is the full or partial post.
Just to let you know. You can find the changes here. Feel free to revert or change information if you feel I am in error.

Replaceable fair use Image:Massey_wing_upper_map.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Massey_wing_upper_map.gif. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 10:17, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014
[edit]The world makes its impact on Wikipedia, but Wikipedia also affects the world. === May ===
Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.
Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
