User talk:Dominicpeckham
This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Dominic Peckham, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.nycgb.net/people/musical-directors/dominic-peckham.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.
If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) MadmanBot (talk) 12:22, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Welcome
[edit]Hello, Dominicpeckham, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I notice that one of the first articles you created appears to be an article about yourself. This is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.
The page you created about yourself has been or will shortly be speedily deleted from Wikipedia, but if you want to use the content from it, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}}
on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Scopecreep (talk) 12:35, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Dominic Peckham
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Dominic Peckham requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - At Talk:Dominic Peckham, you wrote:
- This page should not be speedy deleted as an unambiguous copyright infringement, because the listed duplication is authorised by www.nycgb.net. It is an educational reference and Dominic Peckham (the educator) is free from any copyright.
- The page in question has a copyright disclaimer right on the page, so your claim that the content is free from any copyright is patently false. If you wish to donate this copyrighted material to Wikipedia, there is a proper process to do so. However, this is almost never a proper solution, because even if the copyright issues can be resolved, the content of the page must meet all of Wikipedia's other guidelines, specifically those regarding promotion. The nycgb.net page in question is a page intended to promote Peckham as a conductor, thus enhancing the reputation of the NYCGB for whom he conducts. This is a fine use of NYCGB's web space; but it is not an appropriate use of Wikipedia. The biography would have to be fundamentally rewritten and referenced from reliable sources in order to be allowed to remain.
- Since you appear to be the subject of the article in question, I should also point out (as has already been done above) Wikipedia's guidelines regarding autobiographies. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:07, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
